MISC | @BTS : What do you think about this ?
nite0859 replied to nite0859's topic in The General Stuff
Well, I suppose the question would go something like this. After using this program and creating a user-specific driver archive, would it be a good way for people to submit their drivers to you? Drivers for various usb devices / Monitor Drivers / Printer Drivers / Mouse Drivers - Not to mention chipset, sound, mass storage, and everything else that already comes in your driverpacks. Naturally, this method would not replace the driverpacks, but would compliment them, and would in a certain way, reflect them. One setback to using this program is that it does not edit the txtsetup.sif file, or any other file, in order to recognize mass storage devices upon initial windows installation. It provides drivers to be updated only -after- windows has been installed. I was browsing the net, found this program, and instantly thought of you. I'm an avid user of your driverpacks, and thought that if there were something to make the process of combing through ALL of the driver out there easier for you, then you'd consider it. However, if you feel that this program for gathering user specific driver information is inferior, then no sweat. But, I get the feeling that after 100+ views with no reply from anyone, and the fact that you didn't seem too interested in this program or idea, that this thread is offically dead. -
FAQ | F6 mass storage drivers from floppy AND unattended install?

Uhm. Edit your last post. You have exposed your KEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Just droping a quick note in here. I made a post over in the BTS driver section here : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=58145 . Perhaps the AutoIT method crew can browse it and perhaps use the same suggestion that I made to BTS. I'm not trying to double post on purpose, so forgive me if I am. I just attempting to get as much feedback as I can.

Just a thought or two. Have a lot of people download the program (free evaluation), and make a backup of all the drivers that they are using. ~41MB zipped for me (8.10MB using 7Zip ). The zip file that this program creates contains descriptive subdirectories for the drivers in question. Have people upload their machine specific zip files somewhere. Maybe even to rapidshare.de like I did ? Then, I guess, you could sort through them (at leisure) and remove duplicates and older drivers. Then use the AutoIT method (for all drivers except for mass storage) or perhaps even a redesigned BTS method to install during setup. Just tryin' to help out man. I know you're busy and this is one way to collect a massive amount of drivers across a very broad spectrum in a very short period of time. Rapidshare link to the file that this program created from all of my drivers-in-use : http://rapidshare.de/files/6257677/MyDrivers.7z.html I know that this program looks for SOME driver updates at mydrivers.com, and for this reason, you may get turned off to this idea. But, in my case, it directed me to the intel site for my chipset drivers and the microft site for updated mouse drivers. At least tell me what you think about my suggestion. Thanks! -

Get this. If I modify the BTS mass storage pack, I can get the nForce problem to clear. I deleted the already present D\M\N folder, and copied over the contents of the installation CD that came with my motherboard. They are older file versions, though - but they work. I'm in the process of making another unattended CD, so I'll have a chance to post HWiDs and such a little later on. I suppose when XP gets installed, I can manually update the nForce drivers. Anyhow. Just a little tid bit of information.

It might be of note that they only way that some users can get nForce4 drivers to install @ setup (without constant reboots when Windows first attempts to load) is to strip out all of the IDE Bus drivers using NLite. (Something about nVidia's drivers not being WHQL certified.) It'd be nice if the DriverPack Base would do this automatically if selected to do so. (Strip the drivers version [A little pun on Keep the Drivers.]) It'd also be nice if the DriverPack Base would automatically check and verify the version of GDIPLUS.MAN file located in I386\ASMS\10\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS. Since the Driverpacks are supposed to be run after Nlite, after RyanVM. I've got so many coasters, I'm considering opening up my own bar.

Nice to see you again, BTS. I don't know about you, but I'm about to *kill* nvidia for the kind of nForce4 "drivers" they release. -
Integration of NVIDIA's nForce RAID and AHCI drivers
nite0859 replied to Fernando 1's topic in nLite
Brilliant. Will try later. Has anyone dared to try this: 1. Using HFSlip, integrate all XPSP2 hotfixes. 2. Using Nlite, add the references to the nForce4 raid drivers. 3. Integrate all of BTS's driver packs, including mass storage, using method 1. -
This CD will get you updated to September 13th, 2005. Some updates have intentionally been left out for various reasons.

Thing is, the live in Houston, while I live in West Texas. I really wanted a case that comes with a PSU because I'm gonna assemble it at my house, then, next month, I'm going to Houston to visit them for a week... at which time I'll bring the completed computer. You gotta understand, my mother-in-law hates computers and doesn't want to exceed the $800 limit. He and I agree that if you're gonna build a computer, you need to do it right. So, as always, this comes down to a cost vs. performance issue. However, "marital-bliss" is at stake here also. So, as any married man knows, keeping the cost <=$800 is necessary for a happy marriage.

I started smoking when I was 20 (junior in college), well because my girlfriend at the time smoked. I must admit, attempting to inhale the first pack of cigs was difficult. However, it got easier with time. At college parties, a lot of people smoked. A lot of people drank. A lot of people smoked while they drank. I happened to be one of them. After I discovered that her punk-arse had some kind of infatuation with being "friends" with ex-boyfriends, I still smoked. She would go out with exboyfriends, drink some beer with exboyfriends, but would swear that they were just friends. Does any of this sound familiar to you dudes as well ? How about this : she would "party" at their apartments, be friends with their friends, continually surrounding herself with the past -- all the while claiming to remain friends. (How easy it is for a female ... to put on the right clothes, the right makeup, the right attitude, then WHAM ... they get laid. While men, on the other hand, can try to do everything right -- yet fail miserably if she is not in the mood.) She was dumb. I was dumber for being with her. Anyhow, I decided right then and there that ... I would have to stick with her for the steady sex -- all the while feining love. Even IF she might be catching a few shots from her exboyfriends on the side, I would still get mine. So the meaning of smoking changed. The meaning began as a way to have something in common with her. (Mistake #1.) Then the smoking began to embody the meaning of "burning" away other people. (No lifeguard at the gene pool.) When all else fails, there was a beer and a smoke. When I was stressed, there was smoke. Wake up in the morning, there was a smoke. After dinner, there was a smoke. Breaktime at work, there was a smoke. Clubbing, there was a smoke. After banging some chick, there was a smoke. Idle time in the car, there was a smoke. And sometimes when I thought it annoyed people... even after I just had a smoke... I would smoke again. Continue this for 8 more years, minus 2 months, and you got my situation. I stopped smoking 2 months ago. Not because I wanted to, mind you. I loved smoking. Smoking was definately a good thing. No one knows how they're gonna die, right? Well, at least I picked my path. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Marlboro lights -- hard pack -- were my choice. I knew how to pack 'em just right, too. Anyhow -- I got sick. Not death-illness or anything, ... just plain and simply sick. It was quite annoying. I attempted to smoke ... multiple times ... while sick and this would result in me coughing even harder for longer periods of time. So I said, "Self," I says, "why don't you temporarily stop for a little bit ... just until you're over this crap,... put the rest of that pack in fridge and wait." THen the reply, "Yes," I says to me, "that's a wonderful idea. I'll get well, then start up again." Well, I got well. But then I figured, "Hey. It's been a week and you haven't lit up once. Why not go for longer and see if you can quit this time." ... "Okay," I replied. "We'll see." So now it's two months later. I still want to smoke. Everyday I want to smoke. I see others smoke, I want to smoke. I think about smoking, I want to smoke. I see anime characters smoking, I want to smoke. But I don't. I want to... but just don't. Ah crap. Was I babbling again? Ah, well. Guess I'll go have a smo... Dr. Pepper. [shakes head] Someone, please invent a healthy cigarette. One that instead of all the toxins actually creates vitamins, minerals, and oxygen as it burns. And make them scented, too. Vanilla, strawberry... that way you'll have the added bonus of a breath freshener. [slaps self]

i renamed dosnet.old back to dosnet.inf ... i still get the phase 0 problem. on a side note, i noticed that there were references to setuporg.exe and presetup.cmd inside the dosnet.inf file after the driverpack was installed. pyron's guide makes no such reference to dosnet.inf . pyron's setup.ex_ is different from bashrat's in size. bashrat leaves out some lines of the presetup.cmd when compared to pyron's. i assume all this has been factored in? i mean that it seems bashrat is not 100% identical to pyron with respect to filesize and file content (inside presetup.cmd). having said that, ppl seem to be up an running just fine with bashrat's method 2. i know this problem has something to do with me specifically... maybe my siig cn2497 pci-ide card ? the startup textmode identifies it as an aec6880... but the bios screen for this card says cn2487. [shrug] during the past couple of days, i've even gone so far as to extract the mass-storage driverpack and used nlite to goto each and every single directory to integrate drivers ... it worked. but no textmode identification of my pci-ide adapter. [paces back and forth smoking] ... i'll keep hammering on it.

1. used nlite to integrate ryanvm's pack v1.20 full 2. used nlite to add registry tweaks found in nlite. 3. used latest version of all driverpacks... integrated using method 2. integration successful! 3a. created my own driverpack_chipset.7z ... inside driverpack_chipset.7z is one dir ... DP ... subdirectories of DP are I and V. i=intel v=via. moved driverpack_chipset.7z to be in same dir as other driverpacks. 3b. target dir is d:\xpcd1 4. used nlite to create iso. 5. burned iso using nero. a. computer reboots, cd drive begins to boot. my pci-ide adapter is recognized ... i can see my two harddrives that are on it. i can also see my c: and d: . c: = 120 GB, d: = 120 GB, e: = 80 GB, f: = 20 GB. b. deleted partition on c:, created new partition using 'quick' on c: c. files are all copied without error. windows reboots. d. hard drive installation begins ... a slight delay here ... i believe all driverpacks are being copied over. cdrom led flashes alot... hdd led flashes alot too. e. then BAM. an error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing internal setup data structures are corrupted (phase: 0) any ideas? side note: a 'stock' xpcd installation does not recognize my pci-ide adapter at the very beginning of course. but when windows loads, and i can do a properties on the pci-ide adapter. it needs driver cn2487 to run correctly. www.siig.com/product.asp?catid=7&pid=437 device instance id pci\ven_1191&dev_0009&subsys_00091191&rev_03\4&1f7dbc9f&0&38f0

I can almost anticipate the answer I will receive, but it's better if I get consensus on this issue. Can any one detect any errors in my order of operations ? Can anyone offer any suggestions to improve my order of operations ? First: I went to RyanVM's site [ http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html ] and got the v1.20 Full version of the hotfixes. (Wow - RyanVM, you truly rock.) I integrated them using the manual integration method found on his site. This was very easy for me to do. I also downloaded the small list of modified files he has that are suppost to overwrite the files with the similar name found in the 'I386' folder. Second: I got all of Bâshrat the Sneaky's driver files [ http://www.btsunattended.net/Projects/DriverPacks/ ] . (Thanks, d00d). Next, I extracted all of the driver packs to be under the 'DP' folder. I also extracted the lastest VIA Hyperion drivers [ http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=37072 ] and the latest Intel drivers [ http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=13854] following a method found in another thread on MSFN. Naturally, I created the 'C' subdirectory (C - for Chipset) under the 'DP' (DP - for DrivePack) directory. Then under the 'C' subdirectory, I created the sub-sub directory 'I' (for Intel) and 'V' (for VIA). Once the finalized 'DP' directory with all its various subdirectories and various files was finished, I compressed the 'DP' directory using the lastest build of 7zip (Compression Level : Ultra, Compression Method : LZMA). Drivers.7z is 117MB. Following Pryon's method to the letter [ http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=12566 ] (which obviously means that I downloaded all the necessary files), I put Drivers.7z under the 'OEM' directory on my WinXP directory. 'BIN' is a subdirectory of 'OEM'. I copied 7za.exe from the build of 7zip that I have to the 'BIN' directory. Also in the 'BIN' directory is postinstall.cmd & t-13_install.cmd & setdrivepath.exe & watchdriversigningpolicy.exe. In another thread on MSFN is an excellent registry tweaking file [ http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=27911 ] . (I edited this registry file to meet my needs, and put it in the 'BIN' directory as well. -- and I renamed it to tweaks.reg) t-13_install.cmd only has one line in it : %CDDRIVE%\OEM\BIN\Tweaks.Reg Finally, I noticed that txtsetup.sif (found in the 'I386' directory) did NOT have the '■' character at the very last line of the file. I made the ■ character by holding down the 'ALT' button while simultaneously pressing '2 5 4'. Without this ■ character, I understand that you will get nothing but constant rebooting after the windows installation completes. Question : If you read Pyron's method, he has a section called 'Things to do after the installation' . Should I execute those registry entires in ' t-13_install.cmd' OR 'postinstall.cmd' ? Question : RyanVM has some switchless installer programs. Would it be wise to execute them in postinstall.cmd ? Thanks for your feedback.
