  1. Then please re-read my OP. unattended - tested and not working audit mode - the long way of unattended, so unlikely to work too after install - prone to issues
  2. "oh" semantics! your (*proposed*) method, duh! The link I was talking about was a comment from you or another user here on msfn saying that changing profile folder after OS install is not recommended. If you give me a link be it on placing profile folders on a sublevel path or instead something a bit more straight than the unattended method which your links are based on, because as I stated the install is ignoring them.
  3. I'm not sure that answers what I am asking... I'm already able to change partition for profile folders. What I'm unable to do is change path level. bphlpt explained very well above. If you wonder, my unattended.xml is already configured, <FolderLocations> <ProfilesDirectory>D:\Profiles\Usuarios</ProfilesDirectory> <ProgramData>D:\Profiles\ProgramData</ProgramData> </FolderLocations>unless you are 100% your method using audit mode works I can't fully bet on that since things involving USB etc can't be tested on a VM. FYI, it didn't work for XP either in its unattended answer file, so something is up there and not on my side.
  4. yes, something "like" that, but from unattended. I can't find the link but I recall you or another user recommending me to change profile location as early as possible on a OS install. Also, since it is an unattended, it makes sense to change the path before RunOnce runs.
  5. Except an issue with seven now everything is ok. I'm not sure what you want to say, I finally managed to install XP on a UEFI mobo, right, not in UEFI mode but all is fine now. What I see is that the only company (apart of Microsoft) eager to bury XP is Intel, it's the only one I couldn't find drivers for my integrated LAN (217-V), the one who didn't make a USB3 driver, or allowed QuickSync to work in XP, and if it wasn't for Fernando, AHCI drivers either. Luckily there are workarounds for those, but that is what happens when you let a single company rule the world of a market. This is my last system with XP, the good thing is I have until 2020 to pick the lesser evil and get used to it. PD: XP "ends" life in April, everything *SHOULD* be normal til then. But some people mistook 2014 with 2013 as it seems.
  6. yes, that's it bphlpt. Complaining is absurd, but I thought of this workaround to make my storage drive D: a bit more tidy, except I can't make it work. I can test over the VM to change location once installed just to check if Win7 prevents it, but my intention is to do this originally in install to avoid bugs or whatever could arise.
  7. Bump, I'm highly interested on whether this is possible or not. It would be a bit lame in case it couldn't but we have seen worse things from microsoft. I checked and Win7 creates 3 folders, Users, Documents and Settings (actually a placeholder), and ProgramData. With the XP profile folder it makes 4 folders of profiles on D: which is cumbersome.
  8. Yes, you can change that over advanced options on the look or appearance tab. Or change it on the theme file, open the theme file in notepad and change color values for rgb: [Control Panel\Colors] Window=67 70 73
  9. Finally managed to install AHCI drivers manually. I think that by some reason, slipstreaming AHCI drivers won't work anymore, I don't know whose fault, if new controllers, nlite, the modded drivers... anyways, it's not too far fetched for this to occur since IIRC this is the first AHCI controller to don't support XP natively. cheers, let's drink a beer : D
  10. Thanks for the prompt response Fernando. I finally installed AHCI manually, I didn't pay attention and was installing the same ATA drivers over again. They were (in ATA) 8C00 and 8C08, now in AHCI it is 8C02, is this correct? Here is a screenshot, there is only one entry... What I take from this (I've been a few days battling on this issue) is that neither tirigliu or me managed to install XP with the slipstreamed AHCI, maybe something changed that prevents slipstreaming (an issue with nlite?) or install fail.
  11. Hello Fernando, I'm having the same issues as the user tirigliu 2 months ago, but I can't make it work manually either (converting from IDE to AHCI), before I had slipstreamed the drivers without success too. My ID's are different from what you mentioned, I'm on Z87 chipset, they are: 8C08 and 8C00. Are they right? When I rebooted it skipped the BIOS screen and went directly to the "Windows didn't load correctly" screen. I then reset and enter BIOS, does it need to be right away? I'm going to keep trying a few times, by the way the 8 series entries are still doubled, maybe that's the reason? Thank you!
  12. not in order to boot (which I guess you do from CD or from USB) or run BartPE, but in order to see your partitions on the HDD; yes. It's strange because it doesn't want to boot, what can be the reason? now WinXP can boot after I set SATA mode to IDE... Maybe I will open a thread on the next months for this. Regarding AHCI, I tried to convert from IDE to AHCI manually. I had the two entries of "Intel 8 series SATA Controller" 8C08 and 8C00, and updated the drivers to the modded ones, then went to BIOS, set to AHCI, but didn't want to boot. I think I can't be thickhead enough to fail here, and also slipstreaming the drivers at the same time, so I think Fernando's drivers might be faulty. I will try to contact him if he knows something, or if someone has made them work. edit: I'm actually experiencing the same issues as this guy here except I can't make it work adding the drivers manually as he did. One thing is certain, the guy made them work so the drivers seem to be OK, then I must be failing somewhere¿?
  13. I tried this with both XP and 7, and they are all automatically reverted back to root drive. Windows7 specially creates a bunch of profile folders, and I want them all inside a folder on root D:, so I have them all nicely placed in just one location along the XP "Documents and Settings (XP)" (on Dual Boot). I'm indicating the paths for both through the unattended answer files. I might be stating the obvious but is this mandatory, is there a reason for this, or a workaround? Thank you!
  14. By the way.. I just found out the hard way reading the readme that XP doesn't support the gryphon (and what else) LAN card. It says: Microsoft Windows XP does not support the following devices: Intel® Ethernet Connection I217-LM Intel® Ethernet Connection I217-V Here is the full XP list: Microsoft Windows XP does not support the following devices: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-LM Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-V Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I218-LM Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I218-V Intel(R) I210 Gigabit Network Connection Intel(R) I210 Gigabit Fiber Network Connection Intel(R) I210 Gigabit Backplane Connection Intel(R) I211 Gigabit Network Connection Intel(R) Ethernet Server Adapter I210-T1I might still use the crappy USB stick : / I hope someone mods it, but I don't know if people actually mod drivers except for Fernando's AHCI drivers.
  15. OK, update: Managed to Install XP on IDE mode. So the problem is on AHCI drivers, either Fernando's modded drivers are faulty, or I did a mistake when slipstreaming. Now I can either try to change from IDE to AHCI on my current XP, or try to slipstream AHCI drivers from scratch to an unattended IMAGE, and cross my fingers it will work. I'm using a i5-4670k CPU, on LGA1150 socket, Which I think corresponds to: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C02&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Chipset Family Desktop SATA AHCI Controller DEV_8C02 (added by Fernando)"Using the very first link of this page called: Universal 32bit Intel RST AHCI & RAID driver v11.2.0.1006 mod by Fernando or the first link of the c) section of this other page (still wondering why there are 2 threads) with the same filename. edit: and as a side note, do I need to slipstream these drivers to BartPE too in order to boot it?
  16. Didn't work either, probably needs to integrate more drivers? Acpi? I try tomorrow, today is enough.
  17. Thanks bphlpt! I actually edit-quoted that line on my above-above post. I'm still wondering what means "clear keys". I'm gonna switch computers and follow the thread over the smartphone. edit: Ok, I managed to clear keys, those are the by default loaded *secure boot* keys. I just deleted them and now secure boot is disabled. I cross fingers, I'm gonna install XP. BTW a quick question, does XP documents and settings folder needs to be on drive root? I was trying to install it to "D:\Profiles\Documents and Settings (XP)" byt by default it sets to "D:\Documents and Settings (XP)", same (and actually more importantly) is this the same with Win7, it has many profile folders I don't want spread on D:
  18. I updated my above post, the secure boot setting being on enabled was just a display issue. I just don't understand what he means with "clear keys". edit: actually, if I set "Other OS" I get UEFI+NoSecureBoot, alright, but boot is not on UEFI mode because I recall changing a bunch of settings to Legacy OS, so I might indeed have LegacyOS+NoSecureBoot, then where is the problem? Probably the "Secret boot enabled" rather than being a display issue was actually locked. I might give it a go again and see if I can by some mean force it to OtherOS.
  19. oh yes, only debate. I found this page that explains the 2 settings below the "Secure Boot state - enable" one link It kinda means UEFI+SecureBoot or UEFI+NoSecureBoot. But UEFI has its own share of issues (GPT partitions, etc)... By the way regarding the above "Secure Boot state - enabled" parameter -> link: It's just a display issue, what I'm really dealing against now is with UEFI vs Secure Boot here, not being able to install XP because two distinct and recent crappy anti-technology implementations.
  20. Yes but, what's the problem? I have that covered. I'm not sure whether you want to help or debate...
  21. No, it just says what it does support. You are reading the "only" from somewhere else. Anyways, now reading it seems that Asus, or Asus Gryphon is not one of those companies because I keep seeing posts of people saying that they disabled secure boot. I just need to know how, I read the reset BIOS didn't work, I checked setting an admin password and didn't either, now I read that disabling CSM (which is strange, but who knows)
  22. I'm searching for it but is there any list of these evil mobos? You can't sell a mobo where you can't install most of linux distros, anything before WinVista, and an array of different OS that makes up of over 50% of population and yet not warn it anywhere. These are punible practices from ASUS and microsoft standpoints. btw, this guy managed to disable secure boot on the gryphon, so there's light, unless so much have changed from 1st and 2nd mobo revision, or BIOS versions...
  23. is that a joke, WTF, the main reason one buys for parts is because you got the freedom to tweak settings. I thought the same, but afterwards I thought... the parameter is present... why would have they bothered? no linux then for Gryphon? no BartPE? no nothing? I already wrote to ASUS this morning, but let's see what they say. I assume Win7 has no issues dealing with SecureBoot? I can't find info anywhere. edit: Some insights.
  24. Ok, a small update, my XP install failed again, my Win7 install test succeded. So no hardware issues whatsoever, this leads me to point at secure boot. I doubt the problem is AHCI since I have never had problems with it during all these years. I need to find a way to disable secure boot
