  1. I have a HD 4600 and XP, and ended buying a Quadro. I found a driver said to be working, it was the GT2 with the same hardware ID, installed fine, but in the end anything that used the GPU used the GPU at all. Video was choppy. Hell! even my current quadro drivers don't work nice on emulators lol (when they rarely work on XP I must add) Being an XP user these days is like feeling you committed a crime.
  2. You shouldn't complain because it happens, you should complain because it's a regression that a 13yo OS didn't have. I would rather not see anything fade to anything.
  3. Yes, although I hate more when while booting 7 it turns off screen/monitor for a second (WTF?). yesterday I felt that it was lacking something... and then I realized I missed the folder tree pane toggle icon. Luckily the very last version of Classic Shell (4.0.6) adds this button to the their custom tool bar. Go grab it! I also miss how I could rename folders from the folder tree (by double clicking I mean). Maybe this is possible on untouched Win7? now I'm not sure.
  4. That's nice to know though. I remember some of them also not being able to undo "delete" actions or something on that vein, don't remember exactly, but I will have a second look to those you mentioned.
  5. All third party explorers I tried (and they are many) had only one level of undo, and not all undo's were possible, for me this is unacceptable, despite how good the rest of features are, that's the main reason I'm bothering so much with builtin explorer.
  6. Tell me they can undo actions and I switch ASAP.
  7. Thank you! every bit of input from users is welcome. Because I use ClassicShell, with classic start menu I don't need "All Programs Auto Expander". Try to put a short description of the listed tools, so hopefully we can make a long self explanatory list for Win7 newcomers. I take "Win 7 Boot Updater" and "Shell Folder Fix" from your suggestions. I really hate 3 "features" of Win7, if anyone knows how to fix. -Explorer auto closes when you exit USB when still inside it. -Opening a folder from Desktop starts with folder pane on. -File autosorting when drop files into a folder.
  8. Yes sorry, I actually solved the issue here. I did it natively, I don't like installing applications for everything, at least if there is a more elegant solution.
  9. More. FolderOptionsX (used to disable auto-arrange in Win7, and limit full row selection in explorer) This is like building Win7 from scratch lol.
  10. I want to change font size of taskbar clock from 9 to 8, so it creates extra room on my narrow taskbar to show also date, this is Win7. Image As you can see this can be done with Style Builder, tested and worked on VM, but this program also writes some junk along that when booting to 7, it prompts the user login screens and prevents me to continue from there. So for lack of a better program I decided to just modify the msstyle by hex editing. I tried the simplest thing, save 2 copies of the file with style builder only changing the font size, and then compare hex, but it did change more than a simple value, so no luck there. Does anyone know exactly what (the adress) to change? I upload the msstyle if it helps. Similarly the shell32.dll file bundled with the theme was compiled with resource hacker, and this originates conflicts with recent IExplorer versions. It has been proved that using restorator doesn't cause these problems but still need to know what to edit. On this theme shell32 is solely used to change the blue color of control panel or system info, not sure if they share the same resource but does anyone have an idea where to edit (ID number)?
  11. My journey to convert 7 into a pleasant OS began just 2 months ago when I installed this dual boot with XP. But now because work I spend much time on 7 (x64), it actually makes a difference with heavy projects I must admit, but the GUI is a disgrace. Because now I spend more and more time in it I discovered little annoying quirks and therefore little by little go fixing them. I will share mine. Replaced icons. I replaced the image (png, jpg, etc) and system (ini, inf, dll, bat, etc) file icons with those from XP, because I have fastoneMV installed from unattended 7 I need to override those, but you can get the corresponding icon ID inside shimgvw.dll and replace where it needs: Here you have some other useful regs: The I install a bunch of applications: network activity indicator VersInfoEx fast preview (like PicaView, still has a few annoying bugs) ClassicShell (a must for 7) 7+taskbartweaker (for taskbar like XP) FileSearchEX (like XP search) FolderOptionsX (disable auto-arrange in Win7, and full row selection in explorer) 7+ (probably overkill, it's underdeveloped too) -Uninstall Remote Differential Compression manually (don't know how to do by regs) -And instead of going to classic shell, why not try a neat Aero theme? I installed ADOBULATED. I modified some dll's so it's more like XP. To start with shellstyle.dll, so I got rid of the useless "command bar", then I modified shell32.dll to make line spacing in explorer narrower like in XP. I upload the pack with my own modifications, just beware IE10 or IE11 won't work with this theme. Just practice the whole thing on VM beforehand. Adobulated (I upload because it is not supported anymore, and hopefully someone can fix the shell32.dll incompatibilty too) -Then as usual there are a whole lot of them I didn't list, since they are more debatable on user likes. Things like services, programs, etc I'm yet in the process so I will keep investigating.
  12. Probably is the keyboard "side" (lit. and fig.) the part that validates the remote control as useable in BIOS. These things are expensive but they definitely look the thing to go for Dual Boot HTPC, Steam must go to Win7, that's the basic constraint. Thanks for help.
  13. And it just makes you wonder what from all the HID devices standing of a shelf are "validated" as a keyboard. That's basically the basic gist of my question. examples: link link Hopefully you get my point. edit: as for third party boot managers, I'm always open to suggestions, since with current 7's I can't really load XP with flags.
  14. Yes I use autohotkey to detect scancodes. Probably the only (small) thing that might work is a numeric pad?
  15. Yes, but my question is still the same, what makes technically a keyboard a keyboard and a mouse a mouse. Just in case I am going to search for a working device I know what to look for.
  16. and what's considered a keyboard? why a remote controller cannot be passed as a keyboard, because technically it's a board with keys... Do I always need a half meter keyboard to manage on BIOS, boot menus, etc?
  17. And what makes keyboards different to other devices? (so I know what to look at)
  18. Great! I might just use that. Now that I'm here, to clear the other question, what type of device do I need to operate on POST, boot menu, etc? Keyboard, mouse, joystick, pen tablet, remote controller, they are all HIDs, but AFAIK only keyboards work, why is this?
  19. Yes I use EasyBCD over Win7, but much better if I find one for XP. Or maybe just buy something that works on the boot menu.
  20. Then it should be safe (?), at least if I can change boot priority from XP.
  21. I have XP set as default OS, the problem is that I want to boot to 7 when using the PC as a HTPC, but when I do so the only HID device I have available is a XBOX360 Joystick, which I tested and doesn't work on the boot menu. So I'm trying to find a way to solve this. What devices apart of keyboards work on boot menus? Do those infrared controllers work? Another option is to edit the boot loader (7's boot loader) to default to boot to 7 (from XP if that's possible) every time I want to do this, but I don't think it's a so nice idea to write to the MBR so frequently.
  22. Idiots normally sound like idiots and you sound like a *****drums***** one. Anyway you always have the chance of looking smarter (not as a *****drums***** smartypants one like me) by posting interesting memes like jaclaz does, he looks very smart indeed, but don't let the flashes blind you, he is just another mortal like us (<- jaclaz, I'm already waiting for this meme). We could also post IN CAPITALS, because it makes one posses some kind of truth or that is what's commonly thought around us mortals. But among all that I think the better option is to simply *****drumroll***** . . . learn another language. You lack some very important world experience with space waste and idiomatic intransigence. You learned back then, hopefully you will now too. Comprendes? PD: Team or gang? sorry, don't put your nice pals on shame with that phrase. For every retardedly offtopic nonsense, I have a barely used PM box waiting your suggestions for griefs dealing and whatnot. Please use it, it serves that purpose.
  23. "Are you a member? I'm not" So what, I am a member, but can't remember where I downloaded it from "Seems you didn't need the help ANYWAY, smarty-pants..." nono, I indeed needed the help, it would have saved me a never ending thread and god knows how many hours dumb-arguing with frustrated lawyers. All you added to this thread is ARGUING ARGUING ARGUING! and on a stupid manner. For everyone else, watch out, I just discovered some moar crap inside ControlSet001\Services not included on submix8c's link. You must be retarded, you are pointing me to (yet) another download link for the driver I ALREADY have installed AND if you read according (which by the time we all know you never do) is giving me issues. You said: And now you give me the same driver ok, eeeerm wrong...a newer one (duude, you mean OLDER or NEWER? make yourself clear) anyways v.6.14.10.5445, mine is 6.14.10.5441, phewww all my bet is there, this time yes I will make the GT2 "card" shoehorn into my HD 4600, yeah! edit: I know you are filled with curiosity..... I tested it and.... *****drums***** DIDN'T WORK!!! why doesn't it suprise me? hmmmm
  24. ok submix8c, just delete the dism folder and BOOM, load of crap left on your PC. Keep reading below: -BTW, I won't buy your half assed help as every other newbie, do you think that an old driver will work on the newer Haswell by arts of magic? go look for VEN_8086&DEV_0412 and tell me if you find it there... -Edit: I deleted ntldr, NTDETECT.COM and boot.ini from XP partition and XP could run smoothly so 7's boot loader is only using those in their own partition, nonetheless I'll keep them on XP partition too just in case one day I run into problems. so to carry on, for the seekers of truth out there, I run over VM and got the install log, and a regshot for the registry, so I paste here: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00; Report of the Regshot 2.0.1.68 25. Yes, I might ask on wincert, or just simply install it on VM with regshot opened, and undo manually the process. On every OS install I learn things that I had better done beforehand, but this time it will have to wait, it's time to enjoy the new build for once and all.
