  1. I haven't run into this problem myself, but I suppose they don't call it a beta for nothing. IMHO this beta 2 is so far removed from beta 1 that it's pretty much a whole new program. Maybe the underlying detection and removal code come from the same pedigree, but everything else is so radically changed that it hardly seems to make sense that this is beta 2. If anything it's more like beta 1 of a different application.
  2. As far as XPCreate goes, I can't really help you there. I've never used the program, so I really don't know what all it does to a source. Regarding the error on line 276 - all that line does is call filecase.exe to convert all filenames to uppercase. Is filecase.exe in the AutoRIS directory or somewhere in your path? The error message will certainly help for the BINL service error. There was one other person who reported the same issue and that was on 2003 SBS. Currently I don't have access to a 2003 server to nuts around on. At some point I'll get a 2003 environment set up in VMware and conduct some thorough testing. The only thing I can tell you to check on for the BINL error is to make sure that the credentials you are using to run AutoRIS with has the proper rights to restart the BINL service on the RIS server. It seems to be a common practice for people to use non domain admin account on their local workstation, but the account will have admin privileges on the local machine. This is not good enough since the admin rights will not extend to the RIS server.
  3. I wouldn't suggest trying this out on an active directory network btw. With the amount of DNS going on in that type of environment, you'd be likely to slow things down to a crawl in a way that would resemble a denial of service attack.
  4. Believe it or not, this very old version of the freeware Kerio is about the best I've run. I thought that 2.1.5 wasn't available for download anymore in lieu of a newer version.
  5. What I would do is enumerate a user that has multiple email addresses first. That should give you a hint as to how to code in the opposite direction
  6. WTF.. you got about 5x as much equipment as I'm using for 200 employees and I don't feel constricted in anyway when it comes to the networking hardware (servers are another issue).
  7. Man the titile of this thread says it all. I went on a very similar rant here not long ago. IMHO software based firewalls for both corporate and home environments suck. I've actually just given up and resorted to using Windows XP's built in firewall for both smaller clients and home users I support. It's a sad sad state of affairs. I recently tried Outpost Pro for a while to see if this was something that would be configurable in such a way that it would protect the neophyte without confusing them. No way. For years I struggled with Symantec Client Security at my main job. This year I dumped it, after spending the last four trying get it properly configured. It's just a defective product plain and simple. And so are all the others out there.
  8. Last idea, and this is a real long shot, but would a RBFG generated floppy work?
  9. If I had such hardware I'd mess with it myself, but you certainly know as much about RIS as I do. Just wondering though, is there some kind of MBA configuration utility? You where you hit a keyboard sequence just after the BIOS. I think it's usually CTRL-SHIFT-B or something like that. On some of my boards I've had to go in there in order to enable PXE, though I've never heard of having to do this with an Intel part.
  10. I don't know if this NIC is incredibly new or what, but I went through Intel's web site pretty thoroughly and indeed there is NO specific download for the Pro/1000 PM. I highlight PM, because it's just not mentioned anywhere. Perhaps there will be a V10.3 of the drivers out soon? Maybe that will add native support for your NICs.
  11. Does Intel have a set of drivers specifically for that adapter available for download? If Windows XP detects and installs the NIC with an Intel driver from a CD based install, then that should be an indication that the hwid is contained in the driver. EDIT: I noticed that the main driver download from Intel that supports what has to be most of their NICs, does not list support for your NIC. This download is also valid for the products listed below. 12. Note that I added the bold tags. Disable and manual are two very different settings for a service. I suppose what I'm getting at here is using a hosts file that is heavily populated generally has one purpose: ad blocking / malicious domain blocking when web browsing. What do you need to web browse? DNS. By the way, I think something similar to BoardBabe's block list is being used with IE7 for it's phishing filter system. It does have some heuristic capabilities, but it also relies on a blacklist of known phishing sites.
  13. If you're trying to suggest I haven't tried FireFox, try again. I used it for over a year as my primary browser. I finally ditched it in disgust. Just a bunch of hype as far as I'm concerned.
  14. I installed IE7 B2 and I have to say that Microsoft has taken too many cues from Firefox. In fact they've taken all the stuff that made me ditch Firefox for Maxthon. When will these people understand that I want to modify the toolbar layout to my own liking? That I want to be able to make the tabs behave how I like it? So anyway, now I'm running Maxthon on top of IE7. Sometimes I think Microsoft should just license Maxthon and concentrate their efforts on the underpinnings like the rendering engine, security, etc. Because nothing they'll do will ever result in a browser interface as nice and as flexible as Maxthon.
  15. The main file in question is setupp.ini (yes there are two letter "p"s in the filename). Check out these two links as they explain pretty much everything: http://wiki.djlizard.net/Product_IDs http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/setuppini.html
  16. I think you're confusing "bridge" with "bond". You don't want to bridge two networks together. What I had suggested was "bonding" the network interfaces on your NIC into one with a virtual MAC address. Effectively giving your server a 200Mbps interface. This is something that you should be able to configure in the driver or driver utility.
  17. Yea I'm not really going for this whole "Live" thing. Plus I'm looking to ditch Microsoft wherever possible. For instance, instead of paying around $30,000 to upgrade our Office 2000 licenses to Office 2003, we're moving to OpenOffice.org. I'm doing the same with my clients as well.
  18. I suppose what drives me crazy is that when it comes to device drivers, there are too many times when you're doing things the right way and it still does not work. Perhaps it's just me, but it seems that Microsoft did a halfway decent job in laying out how these things are supposed to work. It's very aggravating when you spend hours reading through technical documentation, take great care to follow the "rules", and then get a blue screen. EDIT: My wife always says I should do standup comedy Glad I can bring a chuckle now and then.
  19. Part of the problem is that I've never used OOBE to create users, instead I've always done it through VBscript.
  20. Felix I didn't mean to be so short with you. It's been a very trying week for me and you wound up on the receiving end. But seriously, I took down the installer because I had some mixed feelings about putting out this installer for something that really doesn't have a free mode except for a very limited trial period. I just decided that I'm drawing the line to where the furthest I will take this stuff is something along the lines of Winamp, where it can be run for free indefinately and that's an intentional decision by the author. And I'm also going to be going over the EULAs of everything else I posted here and will be removing anything that makes me nervous that I may somehow be putting myself in some kind of civil jeopardy. I just don't need that sort of grief. Especially when I'm not getting compensated for any of this.
  21. It's not difficult at all to make an AutoIt script that performs a LEGAL online activation. In fact I did this for a design studio. Nothing fancy about the AutoIt script either. Just your basic ControlClick and ControlSend. In fact there's probably an example in the AutoIt sticky thread in this forum. The only part that's possibly tricky is finding and deleting the custom action that pops up activation during the install. If you delete that custom action, activation can wait until the first time you run Photoshop.
  22. Hey I did find the old installer for 1.67 and uploaded it. The link for the switchless silent installer is now actually 1.67. I'll revert the description and update the msi and addon links tommorow, but for now I just have to go to bed.
  23. This is one of the reasons I was putting off releasing 1.68. It's based on QuickTime 7.0.4. Apparently apple released a downgrade utility they had so many complaints. Hopefully there will be a 1.69 before too long. I don't even have a trace of 1.67 anymore.
  24. I assume you are aware of the ramifications of disabling DNS? If so then you may wish to point what they are so that someone who doesn't have that knowledge won't cripple their system and then come here complaining "my internet connection is broken."
  25. I didn't remove it so that I could then send it out on a per request basis.
