  1. I've found a better way to check for hardware IDs in Windows 2000. Just open Computer Management and go here: Could you try to run the original Sound Recorder from SP4 and see if the problem persists? It may be a driver (likely the graphics driver) to cause the instabilities when using standby with PAE enabled. Hibernation won't work with PAE enabled at all - that's a known limitation but standby should work in normal circumstances (it does in my system).
  2. Hmm, I've really got no idea why the drivers aren't installed properly during system setup (but work later after installing them again manually). Maybe analysing log files after system installation could help to find out what the culprit is. You can use Unknown Device Identifier to look for Hardware IDs of the PCI Simple Communications Controller. As for PAE, I've used it on my system with both 4GB and 8GB of RAM and haven't experienced any issues with system performance but it's all hardware and driver specific. Maybe one of the drivers doesn't work properly with PAE enabled and causes the lag? Are you 100% sure that the lag doesn't happen when PAE is disabled? How much memory do those applications use? Have you tried to add the "/3GB" switch to boot.ini like this? multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server" /fastdetect /3GB /PAE Do you mean sndrec32.exe? How about trying out this one instead?
  3. Please don't add anything to the HFSLIP package USP5.1 (w2ksp51.exe) is included in HF, and both SP4 and UR1 are already integrated in it. Adding them separately won't do any good. I don't even know if HFSLIP slipstreams USP5.1 at all in such a situation.
  4. I'm 99% sure that they don't test their new hardware with Windows 2000 at all If it's not a problem a problem, could you (AnX or bluenote) try to install the system with only USP5.1 integrated this time (with no other updates or drivers) and see what happens? I can confirm The easiest way to disable hardware acceleration once a newer version of Firefox has been already installed and is unusable is to boot the system into VGA Mode, open Firefox and disable it then.
  5. @GaryMX GetFirmWareEnvironmentVariableA is included in UURollup-v11's kernel32.dll As for installing it over UURollup-v10d... Well, I'd say that it should work but I haven't really tested it. If you uninstalled UURollup-v10 smoothly and installed UURollup-v11 daily after that then it would be probably safer. I don't think I can really help with the other problem as I've never experienced such issues myself I'd suggest creating a separate topic related to that particular problem with Task Scheduler and file permissions.
  6. Firefox hardware acceleration and Flash hardware acceleration are separate things. You can have hardware acceleration enabled in Flash and disabled in the browser itself. The only browser where hardware acceleration seems to work fine in Windows 2000 is Chromium (and other browsers based on it) but there are several other issues with it.
  7. Avast is wrong. SFC.DLL is patched to disable Windows File Protection because it doesn't work properly with all the unofficial system files. Check virustotal. Only three scanners see it as trojan, four say the truth ("PatchedSFC") and the rest doesn't detect anything. I wouldn't recommend using the UR1 version as turned on file protection may cause unexpected issues.
  8. The most basic way of using a Windows XP driver in Windows 2000 is to open its INF file and change it like this (just an example): Before: [Manufacturer] %ATI%=ATI,NTx86.5.1 [ATI.NTx86.5.1] %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4391&CC_0106 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4392&CC_0104 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4393&CC_0104 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4394&CC_0106 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7801&CC_0106 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7802&CC_0104 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7803&CC_0104 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7804&CC_0106 [Napa_Inst.ntx86] CopyFiles = ahci8086.Files.x86_12 [Napa_Inst.ntx86.Services] AddService = ahcix86,0x00000002,Napa_Service_Instx86, Napa_EventLog_Inst After: [Manufacturer] %ATI%=ATI [ATI] %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4391&CC_0106 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4392&CC_0104 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4393&CC_0104 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4394&CC_0106 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7801&CC_0106 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7802&CC_0104 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7803&CC_0104 %NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7804&CC_0106 [Napa_Inst] CopyFiles = ahci8086.Files.x86_12 [Napa_Inst.Services] AddService = ahcix86,0x00000002,Napa_Service_Instx86, Napa_EventLog_Inst The structure may differ depending on the driver. I hope you're aware that you will need to have unofficial kernel installed together with blackwingcat's unofficial drivers to make the card work. The original XP drivers from AMD won't work.
  9. Does SpeedStep work? How much RAM does the system display?
  10. OK, I know that there are so many different versions of Windows 2000 unofficial updates available that it may be confusing but too many things have been mixed there Update Rollup 2 - The old one (Update Rollup-KB891861-v2.EXE) is obsolete and shouldn't be used any more. It probably won't harm you if you've already installed it but there were several bugs in it. The only one version of Update Rollup 2 used now is available on my website (Windows2000-UpdateRollup2-x86-ENU.exe) with its extension for Windows 2000 Server (Windows2000-UpdateRollup2-SrvExt-v2-XXX.exe). SkyDrive - The SkyDrive archive was set up when Dropbox blocked access to the original one but it's not used at the moment since Dropbox is working again so you can safely just ignore it. The main archive which is constantly updated is the Download Archive located in Dropbox which link to you can find at my website here. UURollup - The stable version of UURollup (Windows2000-UURollup-v10d-x86-ENU.exe) is also available at my website here (Windows2000-UURollup-v10d-x86). The test versions (weekly & daily) are available in the Download Archive, ex. for UURollup-v11 you need to navigate to Windows2000 -> UnofficialUpdatesRollup and then choose between Daily / Stable / Weekly. Task Scheduler - Are you sure that it was UURollup to break it? I use Task Scheduler on my computer all the time and haven't experienced any problems at all. Firefox - The instructions at mozillaZine is for UURollup-v10. In case of UURollup-v11 you only need to install the program using Application Compatibility Launcher and disable hardware acceleration in its settings. The other steps are no longer required. Acrobat Reader - The newest version works but in order to install it you have to modify the installer. It's an MSI installer so Application Compatibility Launcher doesn't work in this case. Feel free to try the one which I've just uploaded to the Download Archive (Windows2000 -> Programs).
  11. The oem*.inf have different numbers in each Windows installation as different drivers are installed depending on your hardware. It means that the "oem10.inf" from your system will be different than the one used by bluebolt. @bluebolt Could you tell us what exactly is your oem10.inf? You can just copy and paste its content here using the [ spoiler ] tag (as it may be quite long).
  12. You must not use Windows Update when using any unofficial updates. That's why UURollup completely disables Automatic Updates. Windows Update should be used only in systems with no unofficial updates installed.
  13. This update should be available for both IE5.5 and IE6 in all supported 24 languages. I'm going to add it later to my Archive.
  14. The Windows 2000 update is included in the ISO file which blackwingcat gave link to.
  15. It's because of JPN urlmon.dll.
  16. @GaryMX You should definitely check this topic. I'd suggest you install the newest daily version of UURollup-v11 (the current one being d20130312). The so called daily releases are often quite experimental but the current one is actually probably the most stable release of UURollup available at the moment PS Make sure to install my unofficial Update Rollup 2 before installing it. Having IE6 with the newest Cumulative Update (which is 2809289) installed is also recommended.
  17. Unfortunately ViGlance doesn't work in Windows 2000. In the past I tested several such applications and there was actually just one which did work in Windows 2000 and provided a Windows 7 look-alike taskbar. I don't remember its name though. It was quite resource-heavy anyway.
  18. @bluebolt As Tommy has already said, I added "unofficial" to distinguish between official M$ releases and others. It doesn't really matter whether there are new modified files or whether it's just a compilation of official M$ files - it's still an unofficial package after all. In one word - Update Rollup 2 = Unofficial Update Rollup 2. @blackwingcat I've already seen it on your blog before... and I'm actually very happy that you started to play around with HFSLIP as it's now possible to integrate your kernel32.dll directly into Windows source (and you've also fixed videoprt.sys, haven't you?) @OldSchool38 I'm glad that you've finally managed to get your system work. I wouldn't be surprised if the current builds of UURollup-v11 were actually more stable than UURollup-v10x. The reason is that UURollup-v11 is constantly updated and fixed while UURollup-v10x still uses the same old version of WildBill's kernel. @My2GirlsDad,Tommy This particular issue is a strange one. I remember that you had already told me about it before, right? The problem is that I can't reproduce it in my environment
  19. I don't understand USP5.2 doesn't exist yet... What exactly have you installed? What's the filename?
  20. Avast (including the newest version which is 8 at the moment) still officially supports Windows 2000. Their official requirements are Windows 2000 SP4 + Update Rollup 1 but in reality you also MUST install IE6, i.e. it doesn't work with IE5.5.
  21. I'll test it in the next few days. I promise I'm trying to install Neet For Speed: High Stakes but the installer refuses to start saying that it's only for Windows 95 or 98 (even when run in Windows 98 compatibility mode).
  22. I hope that you mean UURollup-v11. Is it right? Could you send me the log file? It's located in your Windows directory and is called "NETFX101120303540.log".
  23. @OldSchool38 The "official" requirements for UURollup-v10 are Service Pack 4 and Update Rollup 1 OR Unofficial Service Pack 5.1. In case of UURollup-v11 it's Service Pack 4, Update Rollup 1 & Unofficial Update Rollup 2 OR Unofficial Service Pack 5.1 & Update Rollup 2. The difference is that Unofficial SP5.1 installs IE6 while the first type of combination (SP4+UR1) doesn't. UURollup should work even with IE5.5 but, frankly speaking, I haven't really done much testing with IE5.5 and the current releases of UURollup-v11. On the other hand, UURollup-v10 is proven to work with IE5.5 100% correctly. Edit: I've just tested slipstreaming of SP4+UR1+UURollup-v11 and it seems to work fine too. @LimeMaster92 What do you mean exactly? You just need to download the package, unpack it and run "update\update.exe". UURollup-v11 (daily or weekly) has to be installed in advance.
  24. Flash hardware acceleration settings are independent from the browser. You must disable hardware acceleration in newer version of Firefox because it doesn't work in Windows 2000. Doing it before updating your Firefox is recommended because, if you don't and just install the new version, the browser window will become all black and you won't be able to access the settings easily.
  25. @OldSchool38 It just means that you must close all Windows Explorer windows and then click "Retry"
