  1. He stated he has an NVidia card, sometimes turning off VSync can fix the problem he mentioned, so shush.
  2. No, this will be available in future versions of the Windows Operating System, sorry for any misconceptions. And no, you cannot recompile the kernel.
  3. Well, if you know so much, you fix it for him then
  4. I have found that when you disable "veritical sync" in NVidia cards through the NVidia control panel (located on the systray with the new drivers now) it will increase the quality of the card and give you some extra frames, at least this is the case with me when I play Max Payne.
  5. Apache is the only way to go unless you know EXACTLY what your doing, IIS is a real b***h to setup, and even bitchier if someone exploits it.
  6. Glad you asked about the seconds in the windows clock. YES you can here's how: Go into start<>control panel<>regional settings Move to the "TIME" tab Go to "Time Format" and change it to apply, in this case; our settings would be HH:mm:ss but I'm using 24 hour format
  7. I would suggest rather than trying to do stupid computer tricks with Windows 2003, that you RTFM and learn what ERD is, because if you don't know what an emergency repair disk is, or how to create one you shouldn't even TRY deleting NTOSkrnl.exe/dll it's VERY dangerous.
  8. DirectX 6+ do not support NT because of the newer OpenGL engine and the fact that the type of hardware/software rendering required just cannot be performed under WindowsNT4. WindowsXP does not contain a "skinning engine" it's just a set of ways to enhance a lame OS with colors and whistles and funny sounding bells. =)
  9. Windows 2000 Brought dramatic changes to the NT kernel and to the Operating System itself. Here I'm going to illustrate the more important ones, because there are over 40 features I *could* mention but I won't deviate, just going to write the important aspects. New logon abilities, which include connecting to RRAS servers, multiple domain logons, the ability to logon to a domain AT ALL and most importantly, the ability to shut-down the machine from logon. [New Logon Panel Here, we see the new "fade-in" system for Menus, this was added in early betas of NT5, and were moved over to Windows 2000. I'll discuss WindowsNT 5 a little later. Fade Effects New device manager and system properties dialougs replace the old crud ones. New Device Manager Windows 2000 featured "Computer Management" this tool allows administration on-the-fly for just about everything except "Intellimirror" or "Active Directory" as it's called now. Computer Management Windows2000 also featured some key additions to customization, in Windows2000 unused folders in the programs sub-menu of the start-button so that everything isn't cluttered. Where are my programs?
  10. Here I'm going to cover some improvements from Windows NT 3 to WindowsNT 4. There is now a new welcome screen and desktop setup to WindowsNT 4 Workstation/Server, isn't that FUN ? New Desktop Features a new control panel New Control Panel A new printer manager service/app saw introduction in NT4 as well New Printer Manager
  11. WindowsNT has come under many evolutions in the last 10 years, from it's earliest developments to rival the competition at Novell systems, to it's present inception into WindowsXP and Windows Server 2003 respectively. The name NT has become synonoumous (spelt wrong) with Networking. What does 'NT' stand for? Some people suggest it's "Networking or Network Technologies" no, it stands for NewTechnologies. During a time when Microsoft was at competition directly with Novell systems, it needed something fresh, something NEW to stomp out Novell once and for all, so a team of 40 people were assigned a task; create something new, something exciting and something easy to configure deploy and administer. Not a tough task eh? Well....I'd like to just take some time to explore, what they created, where it's gone and what is in the future for this double letter prefix that has become an Office brand-name. "Where it all begins" (Windows NT 3.5/3.51) This is where it ALL began, "Welcome to Windows" very crude old fashioned looking thing, obviously CTRL+ALT+DEL would allow login Welcome to Windows The original desktop was nothing more than the standard Windows shell built upon DOS, again; not much different than Windows 3.1 itself. Windows NT 3.5 Desktop This is where we see some stuff begin to differ, the Microsoft NT team decided to give us a way to administer disk-space, this was VERY handy and alot better for administrators than Windows 3.1 which didn't really tell anything at all Disk Administrator 1.0 This is where the directory permissions were set in the olden-days. Notice only the appearance of the "Everyone" group Permission Levels This is the old user manager window notice how event log viewer is directly above it, MMC anyone? User Manager
  12. Yes, in theory; this will work for all devices
  13. What the hell are you talking about?
  14. If you cannot get sound working in Windows Server 2003 you need to into services.msc and enable "Windows Audio Services" otherwise no matter what you do, there will always be no sound.
  15. Well tough, here in bizaro land; we do it today
  16. Okay, many people suspect; few truly know. In the upcoming release of future Microsoft Operating Systems, "modules" specifically for the kernel will begin to take shape, but what does this mean for the world? Well -- for the standard person, it doesn't really mean a whole lot at all. For advanced users, it means that people can customize their Operating System on-the-fly, they will be able to unload/load particular support for specific hardware inside their Operating System. What's this good for? Glad you asked, say I have a Adatap XXXX SCSI HBA and I want to add an additional drive to the system, why I would have to shut it down wouldn't I? EEEEET WRONG. I can plug my drive in, power it up (assuming the power doesn't kill over, surge or whatever -- this will be addressed in furture PSU's as well) Windows will detect my new SCSI drive, if it doesn't I can load the specific module from Microsoft and voila! there goes my support for a new drive on-the-fly. This will also allow me greater control over my CPU, and how many components of the OS are loaded during/before/after start-up. Things like NTLDR are becoming majorly revised as far as Windows 5.1/6.0 are concerned so expect good things. NOTE: Microsoft is making a very bold initative to open their Operating System more, with modules and XML content, things are more configurable on the user-level instead of on the Manufacturer (Microsoft) People who are learned can now change the way their OS works, feels, acts etc. This will be most noticable with a customizable 3D user interface (UI) which will soon become known through the "BlackComb" project.
  17. Happy b-day ol chap, may the Euros here bring you tea and cookies
  18. I think your question has been anwsered, also; being a member constitutes more than 10 posts btw
  19. Yes, Windows will be sued for by Home Depot INC they will soon declare that Windows was originally designed by them as they supply a variety of products with the name "Window" or sales events known as "Windows Blowout". So obviously, yes; this is the next target of his greed.
  20. I personally have never been able to enjoy BattleField 1942, I don't really like the game; I play HL mods made by people I know such as natural-selection and day of defeat. Why not Counter-Strike? Oh please...the better question is *WHY* play counter-strike?
  21. Steve Ballmer will personally all people in the neck who try playing games on Windows Server 2003. If you are CAUGHT you will be shot in the neck and sweated all over by the big fat man himself.
  22. If you would like the DX 9.0aRedist for Windows Server 2003 please reply to this thread and I will send it to you
