See FGA # 5 as suggested earlier. If that does not work your converter might have been fried as jaclaz suggested earlier. All working converters is the same trouble to set up. Obviously those that doesn't require soldering by your friend is preferable e.g. all USB to 3.3V TTL converters (like the CA-42 or DKU-5).
Well we can either include/exclude those long lists and then just do a search topic to see if the word has been used before. Otherwise we must find a volunteer to compile everything into one list that can be updated with each post.
Not so sure They are in some (not necessarily accurate) lists in the thread , but not in the thread itself (at least not what I can find in search this topic in the top right), but OK, maybe we should rather go and surf.
First thing that is wrong is that it is NOT a 7200.11 series, thus this solution will not work (and we can't guarantee what will happen if you try it on that 5900 RPM disk) Start a new thread and we will see if someone can help you.
Did you look here? http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=306513&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=377936&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4062
Yes. Maybe read it again. So, with NOTHING connected to the converter on the side that would later go to your HDD (yes USB side connected with battery if required), connect the Rx and Tx together and see if you can see what you type in hyperterminal. See also the FGA #4&5 (&7 for the gibberish)
The only thing I can still think of that might be wrong is that one of your connections is not making proper contact. If you short your Tx And Rx that connects to your hdd, do you still get loopback? Are you sure your converter is 3.3V?
Hello gtravel, Welcome to MSFN Did you properly isolate your PCB? Try isolating the other set of contacts (if you did the motor contacts, try with the head contacts and vice versa). Check all connections. See FGA #1
Maybe get another cable. The wires should be easy to separate (and wires should not just fell out ). It should look like this http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128807&view=findpost&p=889486
Was your cable detected before you installed the drivers? Are you using the original driver from the driver cd or some driver you thought might work that you found in some obscure place on the internet .
