  1. LOL I understand how the register links to file folders So I will never do this... You would have to search and relink all the stuff in the register.... That is a big job LOL Just for the heck of it sometime on a play drive swap Johns NTUSER.DAT With Bills NTUSER.DAT and watch what happens,, When you are on Bills desktop the explorer opens in Johns folders.. and visa versa,,, Cause all the links are wrong.... Same goes when you paste a old Default User NTUSER.DAT you have unlinked stuff also when you install stuff there may be register setting saying things are installed already and that part will be skipped... On and On I can go.................. etc etc MaC!
  2. Let Me Jump in here I kind on looked over the thread you have a good idea but some software even though you enable(register) it in the default profile still has to reregister to work when you make a new user,,, Personally I only run one profile per hard drive because of the way the register works.... I create one user and forget about the the other profiles then I install all software to that profile... OFFICE 2000 is one of those programs that gets all fubared no matter how you install it... and by all means never remove the profile that you installed it on... cause all the links are gone,,, I have played... Been there done that.. Running the repair will fix it,, but then all the links are to the profile that you run the repair on! a never ending circle.. So install everything to the default profile is not the fix and doesn't work on all programs it all depends on how that program links out into the file folders on the C:\ drive... Mac!
  3. also in the end if it is posible I hope to have the ISO of my favorite install programs on the D:\ drive too and I will let Daemon tools spin them up then figure out what switches I need to install them silent ... and as time goes on I will just have to update the d:\drive with updates,,, so when i get ready to install a new drive I will just copy the D:\ drive to the new drive... and away we go with updates too..... Mac!
  4. Much easier ... All that work and then you would have to change some stuff in the end aswell... Much easier ... All that work and then you would have to change some stuff in the end as well... For me NO cause I am leaving the install files on the D:/ drive any way,, And I have not burned my final cause I'm using a CD-RW a rewritable CD Wouldn't it be easier to make a iso and test in Virtual PC or VMWare? LOL I have a few big hard drive to play with and they are in Mobile Racks.. http://www.techarts.com/products/drivedraw...w=mobile%20dock Also it takes time to generate a new ISO to play with.. I took that travel time out of the equations..... I use the same CD-RW for each test run... ONLY the files on the D:\ change Also when you burn all setup program files into the iso you have to wait for windows to copy them all to the C:\ drive.. in my set up the programs are being installed from the D:\ drive... no pre copy needed.. travel time less even more... SO! This way I only have to edit the files on the second hard drive partition two.. and do a quick clean of the second drive parition one,, Then Virtual PC or VMWare is turn off the computer pull out my controlling hard drive then power back up... The second test drive boots up as master then.. and away we gooooooooo!!!!!!!! Pulling the control drive is turn the key switch to off and slide the rack forward a little so it is not connected electrically..
  5. This is for Igor I read this topic here http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/restore_dialup.htm I did some digging and reading cause I'm just getting into this unattended thing and I needed more info... On this site is how to do the cmstp inf install silent... http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...n-us/cmstp.mspx and on this site I found a installer to play with http://www.midpac.net/connectman.htm file http://www.midpac.net/support/midpac.exe igor extract the file and have a look in them I search the files and change it to my stuff... Stuff to look for midpac = MyIspname kauai = MyCity Mid Pacific Online = MyIspOnline inside this file Kauai.pbr the Kauai = your state but the file will be renamed MyCity.pbr you can change the 10.ico and the Logo.bmp to what you want.. inside this file midpac.cms change this to yours ServiceMessage=Call 1(800) 890-5128 for customer service. inside the kauai.pbk change the phone number to yours it can have more than one line.... the only files that you need will be 10.ico instcm.inf kauai.pbk kauai.pbr linc.txt Logo.bmp midpac.cmp midpac.cms readme.txt midpac.inf and this file that you will make MYIsp.cmd cmdow @ /HID @echo off Cls TITLE Setup MyIsp Connection ECHO. ECHO Setup MyIsp Connection Start /Wait cmstp.exe /s /sd "%XPCD%\EarthLink\EarthLink\EarthLink.inf" REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\EarthLink\DisableAutodial.reg Exit make sure you save the file when you change them cause some of them are self destructing when you install them uninstalll I will try to upload the EarthLink.inf so you can hve a look at it.. 6. Hi! All It is time consuming to re-burn a new CD each time to run a install test for your favorite programs so here is how I got around the re-burn when I run the test for installing my favorite programs. I hope someone else can use this cause I have found allot of great stuff here so far and I would like to add too it.. I am using a CD-RW to play with a extra hard drive and I have my hard drive split up into to partitions C:/ And D:/ Just as a note remember this for later when you get all done you can burn the stuff onto the CD but change the environment variable %XPC% to look at the regular variable called %systemroot%\install What I did is put the install program in a folder called D:/XPCDinstall they will not be burned or moved during the install for the test,, They normal go in this one %yourpath%\$OEM$\$1\Install... I used XPCDinstall folder name on the D:\ drive so when I do a search it is easy to search a different variable name Step one open the hivesys.inf file and add the middle line save and exit... HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment","windir",0x00020002,"%SystemRoot%" HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment","XPCD",0x00020002,"D:\XPCDinstall" HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Executive","AdditionalCriticalWorkerThreads",0x00010003,0 Step Two create a folder on the D:\ drive called XPCDinstall this is where you will put all the stuff that you normal put in the %yourpath%\$OEM$\$1\Install that gets install during the RunoneEX when you log in the first time.. Step Three put a file called RunOnceEx.cmd in this folder %yourpath%\$OEM$\ This file normal set up the runonce keys but we are going to do it from the tick of the eye file XPCDRunOnceEx.cmd cmdow @ /HID @echo off start %XPCD%\XPCDRunOnceEx.cmd start /wait sleep.exe 10 EXIT Step Four open the cmdlines.txt and make sure you have this in there [COMMANDS] "RunOnceEx.cmd" Step Five in the CDXPinstall folder on the hard drive save this in a file called XPCDRunOnceEX.cmd all this stuff normal go in the other runonceEX but we are putting it here ao you can change the runonceex keys with out hving to reburn cmdow @ /HID @echo off SET KEY=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx REG ADD %KEY% /V TITLE /D "Preparing Vernon's Profile" /f REG ADD %KEY%\010 /VE /D "SetUp ZoneAlarm" /f REG ADD %KEY%\010 /V 1 /D "%XPCD%\ZoneAlarm\ZoneAlarm.cmd" /f REG ADD %KEY%\015 /VE /D "SetUp PopUpCop" /f REG ADD %KEY%\015 /V 1 /D "%XPCD%\PopUpCop\Pop_Up_Cop.cmd" /f REG ADD %KEY%\020 /VE /D "AdShield" /f REG ADD %KEY%\020 /V 1 /D "%XPCD%\Adshield\AdShield.cmd" /f REG ADD %KEY%\025 /VE /D "spywareblaster" /f REG ADD %KEY%\025 /V 1 /D "%XPCD%\spywareblaster\spywareblasterUpdate.cmd" /f REG ADD %KEY%\030 /VE /D "IESPY List" /f REG ADD %KEY%\030 /V 1 /D "REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\IESPYList\ie-ads.reg" /f REG ADD %KEY%\030 /V 2 /D "REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\IESPYList\adult.reg" /f REG ADD %KEY%\980 /VE /D "Importing Folder Options" /f REG ADD %KEY%\980 /V 1 /D "REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\Folderoptions\FolderoptionsPart1.reg" /f REG ADD %KEY%\980 /V 2 /D "REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\Folderoptions\FolderoptionsPart2.reg" /f REG ADD %KEY%\985 /VE /D "Importing Register Tweaks *** NOTE *** add tOOL bar fix later" /f REG ADD %KEY%\985 /V 1 /D "REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\RegTweaks\regtweaks.reg" /f REG ADD %KEY%\990 /VE /D "Setting Services Startup Type" /f REG ADD %KEY%\990 /V 1 /D "REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\Services\Services.reg" /f REG ADD %KEY%\999 /VE /D "CleanUp Finish" /f REG ADD %KEY%\999 /V 1 /D "%XPCD%\CleanUpFinish\CleanUpFinish.cmd" /f EXIT Step Six here is an example using popupcop inside the cmd I changed the normal %systemroot%\install to %XPCD% cmdow @ /HID @echo off Cls TITLE Setup PopUpCop ECHO. ECHO SetUp PopUpCop REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\PopUpCop\HKCUPoPUpCop.reg REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\PopUpCop\HKLMPoPUpCop.reg start /wait %XPCD%\PopUpCop\PopUpCop.exe /s /v /qn taskkill /F /IM IEXPLORE.EXE REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\PopUpCop\HKCUPoPUpCop.reg REGEDIT /S %XPCD%\PopUpCop\HKLMPoPUpCop.reg EXIT __________________________________________________ So as you can see when you run the test install by using the %XPCD% enviroment variable you can load the stuff from the D:drive.. and keep the old burned CD.... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++ Now it is time for you to play just remember this is my layout and you will have to change the words to yours..... And if you are totally confused start by reading this.. http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/runonceex.htm Mac! P.S. I am going to leave my installations programs on the D:\ drive cause that is just the way I'm doing mine...
  7. This is a test for the search engine lickthis LOL I wanted to see it your search engine searches inside the code tags... And it did... Allot of forums that I have been to the search engine doesn't check what is in the code tags,, Mac!
  8. I know this is an old thread ran across it while I was looking.... TO keep the Connections manager from popping up put a fake phone book... If you do have dial up then add your real one... and have it select to not dial.. here is the EarthlinkDial-up.cmd I put it in the RunOnceEx ... I added the dial here in the RunOnceEX cause if I did it early the folder is not made yet.... and the file is not copied.. folder doesn't exist yet... 10. LOl I just started playing with this so here goes,,, one part of your question slipstream shortcuts I tried to copy them into the folders by profile name (Say Jim) to early and it screwed things up... So I copy them early into the all users... and default user by putting them into the $Docs folder All Users first level or start at Default user first level... Looks like if you want to copy them later into the profile by name you will have say put them in the install folder somewhere and write a script to copy them when you run the Guirunonce and the RunonceEX.... Here is and example where I moved the pbk file CLS @echo off TITLE Setup Earthlink Dial-up conection ECHO. ECHO Setting Up Earthlink Dial-up conection Copy "C:\Install\005EarthLink\rasphone.pbk" "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk\rasphone.pbk" EXIT Shortcuts end in INK.. and when you look at them they show the file file... A trick would be to put them in folder then tell it to copy all files *.ink use the *.ink so it would move all shortcuts files to the new folder or go filename.ink Mac!
  11. Ok thanks Then I was dreaming... I still don't know where I came up with that name.. LOL.. But I did put it to good use.. anyway... I made the file when I first read the tutorial... And you know how your mind goes on a tangent when you read stuff the first time... It is confused cause of to much information... Now when I look back it was not that much information... Now that I have played and reread and reread and reread I think I have a handle on the time line... Thanks Mac!
  12. Hi! all I have been reading post here! And there is allot of great stuff to play with... But my problem is I made a file called Start.cmd for some reason and now I can't find where or what I read about it... If I read and remember correctly it was automaticlly looked for somewhere in the timeline ... But where is the questions... If not then I'm insane.. LOL... I must have dreamed it... The Start.cmd is in this folder \$OEM$\$1\Install and for right now I put a reference to it in the winnt.sif file under this heading [GuiRunOnce] %systemdrive%\install\start.cmd Please set me straight Mac! P.S. So far the my Unattended install disk is going great....
  13. Hi! all! Thanks for the getting me started! I now have a fully unattended Windows XP Pro Corp SP2 Basic install Disc... It took me a few days to put it all together ... But it is done now.. Now I can go on and add tweaks and other programs... It was great having the http://unattended.msfn.org/index.htm site as a tutorial.... I did read and do from the ref.chm file too.... But as with all reference material they always seem to be light on the correct syntax and that is where the tutorial came in handy .. To who ever reads this and is new at the game print out the time line and write notes on it... Then get a CD-RW and used Nero to burn the test DISC... and use a extra hard drive to do the test with... Mac!
