  1. Bumped up so you can see the completed files are uploaded,,,,, This is how I like my desktop............. Hope who ever uses it enjoy it it took along time to put all the correct stuff together......... allot of reading and playing....... and using the search button here and yahoo and other sites,,,,,, Mac!
  2. I can't believe you are all still pushing that use the runoneEX style... INCORRECT way to do business you need to install programs on the other side from the HKCU run... As far as advice to you get another hard drive to play with...... and try the stuff ..... find what you like best....... Not all programs are created equal... so you will have to figure out where it likes to be installed at....... some you can just copy the folder and run the program... some have to install then enabled..... some can be enabled from the silent install with some files and register keys.......... AND THERE ARE SOME PROGRAMS that DONOT support a silent install so don't even do it that way...... I'm injecting stuff into the hive setup myself......... I also use the cmdlines.txt to do the presets.......... I use the other files that comes with windows to set up the unattended and install the updates, in the SVCPACK.INF Then I switch on the hidden default desktop ....... and do my silent installs from the HKCU run........ ALL ACCOUNTS are created from the hidden profiles,, Hard to explain it here,,, once you create a profile no one else will get what you install... LONG story once you understand how the register works you will go DOH..... the hidden profile is like a cd player tray that has a cover over that CD .. once you go past the first install and create a new user a cover goes on and it never gets changed...... I take the plastic cover offf....... So now any users profile you create gets all the settings,,,,, EVEN the admin acounts is B.S. I have a thread some where explain this... I have been playing for a long time on and off at this and I change stuff around all the time........ As a bonus get a extra hard drive to play with .. I run moble docks,, and use nero with some DVD-RW NOTE The Biggest thing is read the post here and say thanks you for your input,, I read and play then keep what works the best for me........ Pick a topic and do a search then play.. I have found allot of good stuff by doing a search here Allot of my silent install on how to are from here for example like the netfx sfx package.. etc etc,,,,,,,,, Enjoy Mac! P.S. you will never be done cause I never have had a week that something didNOT have a update... So if you update like I do you will need to use a RW....
  3. Hi! All Here is my new list to control (Disabled/Demand/Auto) windows XP service during the installation of windows XP.. (where you put the list is up to you..) Thanks goes to all the poster that put links to other web sites... I was able to compile all the after thoughts..... also I put a post here on settings up presets for the windows Classic mode... My computer can handle themes and extra but I have always turned that junk off..... Have fun....... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=70&t=45120&st=0#entry313056 when you see this it means.......... ECHO ***** Alerter Service start= disabled <<-- Default value sc config Alerter start= disabled <<-- what I want it set at Not ever one will use my settings mine is set up for cable.. you can change them to meet your needs,,,,,, This listing is after a fresh install no extra programs so if you have programs that add services you will not see them here.............. I don't use themes or the windows fire wall and I have allot of the junk disabled............. this line is to hide the bloody thing while installing you will need to find the file cmdow if you want.. if not delete that line...... cmdow @ /HID This list is better than the old register edit way......... Enjoy MaC! cmdow @ /HID @echo off Cls TITLE Shutting down services ECHO. 4. I rechecked the settings for spelling and correctness........ then uploaded the new files above I'm happy with the list so far......... The only one that is a pain is the showsuperhidden the files are showing but is tick as hide ....... This is fixed found in the register that there was a policy being injected not by me.... I inject the list twice once during the hive set up... so the settings will be seen...... then in the cmdlines.txt so my stuff over rides the over written... here are the notes with it how to from these two sites http://gosh.msfnhosting.com/infresh.htm http://gosh.msfnhosting.com/infs.htm ADD to the top of the cmdlines.txt you will have to pont them to the files mine is in C:\Install\PreSet\HiveInf\ [COMMANDS] "rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 C:\Install\PreSet\HiveInf\HIVEMY.INF" "rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 C:\Install\PreSet\HiveInf\HIVEadva.inf" "rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 C:\Install\PreSet\HiveInf\HIVEexpl.inf" "rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 C:\Install\PreSet\HiveInf\HIVEStre.inf" "rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 C:\Install\PreSet\HiveInf\HIVEsite.inf" Also copy the five files to the I386 folder.... I inject then twice so all the setting get put in some get over wriiten during the installations so you hav to update the keys.. The first injection set up the defaults ..... This is added to the TXTSETUP.SIF HIVEMY.INF = 1,,,,,,_x,3,,3 HIVEadva.inf = 1,,,,,,_x,3,,3 HIVEexpl.inf = 1,,,,,,_x,3,,3 HIVEStre.inf = 1,,,,,,_x,3,,3 HIVEsite.inf = 1,,,,,,_x,3,,3 This is added to the TXTSETUP.SIF in the [HiveInfs.Fresh] DelReg = HIVEMY.INF,DelRegSection AddReg = HIVEMY.INF,AddRegSection AddReg = HIVEadva.inf,AddRegSection AddReg = HIVEexpl.inf,AddRegSection AddReg = HIVEStre.inf,AddRegSection DelReg = HIVEsite.inf,DelRegSection AddReg = HIVEsite.inf,AddRegSection This is added to the DOSNET.INF d1,HIVEMY.INF d1,HIVEadva.inf d1,HIVEexpl.inf d1,HIVEStre.inf d1,HIVEsite.inf
  5. Hi All! After reading many thread's and doing some playing I put together how to get the small icons on the side of the start Menu and have the quick launch bar on when you do a unattended installation of windows XP .... From what I got from the threads is some of the setting's are read into a volatile memory and even if you change the settings while explorer.exe is running they are discarded.... If you change the settings using the applets they stick but just changing the register keys it doesn't work while explorer.exe is running ....... I finally found this page on how to add register settings during the time when the register hive are loaded... it seems that windows will not over write the settings you add for these settings during setup....... http://gosh.msfnhosting.com/infresh.htm You need to add these to keys and all sub keys HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2 Do a plain install of windows no extra's then set up the platform how you like it then save the keys above in the inf file.. not sure if my settings will work for every one,,,,,,, these keys above will have to match the settings in the hive files....... I added the defaults for IE that I use this time... it setups up the file and folder options too.. sets up the desktop settings to.... the control panel show up as classic now too... HiveInfCompleted.zip
  6. Ok Thanks that makes allot sense ... HEX is just bunch of light switchs ....... all in a row... knowing which light too turn on is the million dollar question ....
  7. Hi! All! Anybody got any good links to explain the workings of inf files............. I'm mainly after how to break this down.. 0x00010003,0 HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced","TaskbarSizeMove",0x00010003,0 Thanks Mac!!!
  8. LOL we will never get done there is always something to update or tweak...... I find that most of my hold up is finding the information .... Let the people read the guide then play.. I find that sometimes thing just don't sink in then you come back later after and read the same thing by someone else you go bingo DOH on me...
  9. Delete didn't work on second test run ....... HUM..........
  10. Hi! ALL Can anyone point me in the right directions on the proper way to select the check box options in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties.. I did find the right code for the winnt.sif to set the Start Menu to the Classis Start Menu By doing a search here.. But I have not found anything on how to set the options boxes when you hit the Customize button..... also when you select the taskbar tab there are options there to.... Mac!
  11. Thanks! Works like a champ... Install it normal then grab the HKCU register keys then merge those keys after you do the silent install .... Mac!
  12. HI! Anybody know how to silent install Beyond Compare http://www.scootersoftware.com/ Beyond Compare is a powerful time-saving utility for comparing files and folders on your Windows system. Use it to manage source code, keep folders in sync, compare program output, and validate copies of your data. Beyond Compare can create a snapshot of a live directory structure, and compare it against the live copy at a later date. Beyond Compare helps you analyze differences in detail and carefully reconcile them. It commands a wide range of file and text operations, as well as script commands for automating tasks. compare text files compare folders, zip archives, ftp sites update websites merge code changes compare program output and more Thanks MaC!
  13. Found out that you need to grab this file from the IE temp folders WindowsPCA.crl right before you accept the install active x web site update thing the first time install that file before you install direct X 9c then it will install all the way no hex edit needed.. also use the updated oct issue of 9c... hope this helps you all that are trying.... I'm going back to my install by numbers... Found out there is to many conflicts trying to load it all at once... Here is a matching link it matches the file I have now.. Don't know if it stays the same all the time http://crl.microsoft.com/pki/crl/products/WindowsPCA.crl Mac!
  14. No problem mate glad to see you worked it out,,, Just to let you know I'm bailing out of this auto install of updates and software... It is a nice idea,, But it doesn't work... To many conflicts,,, So enjoy after you play you will see why... I'm going to go back to old way of installing by numbers,,, It takes a little longer but it works,,, I'll just use the win file to load serial ... the rest I'm going to leave default... Bye and good luck... even doing the svcpack hotfixes in accordance to the Microsoft site... didn't work... when you copy the files to the I386 folder like the article says that even cause coinflicts... Mac!
  15. Ok who ever wants to expand on what I have done so far go for it... Cause I hate to say this but the silent install of programs and the silent install of the windows updates is a good idea but it doesn't work... The computer needs to be rebooted at a minuimum of twice after each update install or programs installation... I have played with the idea and I'm getting to many conflicts by install stuff one after the other on top of each other,,,, So have fun I'm bailing out... I have learned allot here by reading other post... So thanks all.. and bye... Mac!
  16. Hi all I'm glad I found the inf call .... I will see if it works in a autoinstaller package.. That I'm working on for the update site... I'm sticking with Sp1 for a while and I just got done going over this with a fine tooth comb... When I load SP1 with all the updates the windows update site takes a dump all over you on the first go around... What I did was use the au.inf from SP2 to install the auto update into SP1.... the run the wuweb.inf to install the active x component.... when you go the web site for the first time you go start to the page that says express or custom... Give me a couple of days and i'll post a way.... I have the files all trapped I just need to proof the installer.... To get Sp1 update site to work right you need the new files,,, LOL windows XP Sp2 uses the same files as SP1 .... What I meant is after you get the active X updates downloaded all the files are the same... in both versions..... SP1 was set up to use the old version V4 site.... if you have all the files you can try to run the AU.inf from the SP2 package... put all the files in the same foilder as the Au.inf from Sp2... there is a few that it ask for a loaction just make a sub i386 folder and put the file in it and hit go.. when you get done it will be all lined up reboot and do your checks,,, The SP1 inf files are fubared up... and the SP1 au.inf file is for the old version v4 site,, and the wusetup.inf doesn't work either.....
  17. neither I use the mouse and copy and paste a space,, LOL just joking the right thumb.............
  18. the way i get them is go the Microsoft download center... search for the KB number http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search....?displaylang=en I liked the old version V4 update you could get to them real easy not anymore.... some times you can go to yahoo and do a search and you will get the page right up front and better than the MS site search engine... Mac!
  19. LOl found that on the net to after I posted this... Yahoo hit up on a old thread here of all things.... I though make cab was for cab files only.... I guess NOT... Thank for the reply... I did manage to figure out what to save and use to get the windows update site to go start to the express and custom page the first time... it will work till they update... My big reason for digging is I'm keeping SP1 alive for awhile cause there are to many issue with third party software and SP2.... And when you go the v5 update site it crashes and burns cause the reguired stuff is not running in SP1... cause it was the old way v4 site.... So whoo hoo I'm off and running I just need to turn it into a installer package.. I hope I can get the inf file to install... I trapped the updated files and used the AU.inf from SP2... That file wusetup.inf that you get is fuu-bared up big time... I used beyond campare to get the updated wuweb.inf // it is the active X installer// Whoo hoo.. I just have to deal with the haxmat silent install and the installer for the update site and my basic installer for windows XP SP1 with all the present updates will be done... Mac!
  20. Hi all! What do you use to compress compact files back to the format that is in the I386 folder... I am going to replace some some files and what I have is the extracted ones,, cdm.dll I need to put back to cdm.dl_ somefile.exe back to somefile.ex_ also what is a good site to learn how to install Inf files,,, I have seen some examples but I'm lost and confused as to why and how... Thanks mac! Mac!
  21. Thanks that took care of the /silent working on direct x 9c I still have to reboot when I go to the update site... I will dig some more into the intergation of the Wu5 site I added the files that where posted in the other thread to the i386 folders but it didn't install the windows update applet or the IE active x component when windows loaded I will dig some more into what I have to add to active it so I don't have to reboot... when running the update site for the first time... LOL the /silent issue is licked... on to the next issue,,, Mac!
  22. I am returning back to Windows XP Pro Corp SP1 package cause there are just to many issue with software running on top of Windows XP Pro Corp SP2 package... Besides that the BOSS (my wife the beta tester) says if I don't put back sp1 she is going to kick my you know what.... SP2 goes in the bit bucket along with 99.9% of all software that my wife has tested.... Anyway after playing with trying to get DirectX 9c to install silent there is a issue with the installation file.... If you do the online windows update checks before install directX 9c it will install silent no problems... if you try to install it before going on line it says the packages has not been signed by microsoft... there are two (2) DirectX9c packages at the microsoft site... a original and a update.... Neither of them will install on the first run without doing the update site thing...... if you run the original and let it give the error and hit exit then install the update it will go all the way silent..... I have tried moving it all around.... in the run keys... no go... So my final conculsions is it is and issue with the windows xp installer package somewhere.... How do you let microsoft know about the issue... EXTRA Note *********** Also there v5 update site is screwed up to when you run the check for updates for the SP1 package the first time it says error..... the only way to fix it is to reboot and do the check again... Then it works... For some reason the Direct x install package for the update site has an issue to... LOL I see microsoft beta testers are just like the rest they S U C K.... Are there any files at micro soft that I can download to update what ever in the signaures so DirectX 9c will install.... Mac!
  23. OH yes both programs do have scanners but the problem is when you run the scanners in automatic they find the blockers and want to delete the blocking stuff.. same with pestpatrol tooo.... I run the scanner by hand and look to see what they want tp delete if it is a blocker entries I skip it... pestpatrol has a very good links to click on to check entries.... if you use the blockers you don't need to have the scanner running all the time.. waste of CPU power.. The big thing is to keep the blockers updated block the ad server sites...
  24. The scanner do not block the crap from getting in they only check for and delete it after you are infected... I stop the crap at the source,, I block the stuff at the front door with my bouncers... I use Spyware blaster popupcop adshield <-- with a ad server list not the list you find on the net those block all the wrong stuff... and IESPY list turn off install on demand in the Internet explorer advanced option two settings.. I use the adware scanners just to run checks or clean up a infected computer then I install my blockers... One big issue with the scanners is be carefull they detect and want to remove the blocker stuff... I have been using this setup up for years and I fell good when I sleep at night... I have said this many times and most people get p***ed at my setup... cause they want to go to the sites that are on the block list... also keeping out those bloody crap-o ads takes care of the rest of the crap... Also be care at what scanners you use they install there own spyware and adware... then tell you that you are clean.. the only three scanners that I use is ad-aware , pest patrol corp, tauscan.. Mac!
  25. Hi! all I thought I would give mcafee another test drive.. Well it still has not changed.. It is a virus in my books... The test run was on mcafee enterprises version 8i It still has not changed it causes your computer hang on boot up! programs to crash for no reason and your mouse left mouse button turns into the right click options... It also causes my modem to not complete the handshaking when I log into my ISP... So if there are any of you that is running mcafee any version and you have issue with software you better look at mcafee first... Every since mcafee quit supporting version 4.xxx there program has sucked big time... Mcafee is a VIRUS Thanks venting some steam off... Mac!
