  1. Read: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=8774
  2. I've been running around and around in circles for nearly an hour trying to figure this out. And I still don't get it. >_< There was a person on ASP.NET [link] who said that the version of the framework was "the tech preview version" or something to that effect. MSDN reports: Yet, at the same time, there is a Microsoft KB article here which implies that SP1 is already out: So now I'm digging through the MS Newsgroups. Bleh. But I don't think that they'd release something to general users before MSDN gets it, right? And they wouldn't be careless enough to release a technical preview to said general public....
  3. No, netfx.cab = non-working, in the sense that it doesn't launch jack from the autorun menu. Which makes it (for most purposes) useless. The option in the Autorun menu requires the DOTNETFX folder in the root of your disc.
  4. Nope. The folder just contains extra files for systems that run specialized versions of XP like TabletPC edition, I recall. And a semi-non-working .NET framework folder. It's safe to rip out if you don't want it.
  5. Urk. I wonder why SP2 Japanese isn't listed on the page, if it's already done? I see Japanese Technet documents and pages, but no download links to the Network Install file. Once I find my localized copy of XP Pro and order a CD to be sent to the States, I'll be in for a load of fun. :|
  6. Lack of ability to go: to make the entire system feeling nice and fresh after it updates things built from source Joking. Seriously, though, it's the problem of when I *need* to reinstall - getting everything back into order. GNU/Linux, all I have to do is copy essential files in /etc and /home and start over, replace, settings intact. I really should look into ghosting. That, and the whole process of install/uninstall/reinstall-new-version/(reboots). Just un-natural for me, I suppose. sven: Try here or here for a stand-alone installer of IE5.0. I haven't tried the links, so do take caution.
  7. I noticed that as well, a few weeks ago. Thought I was going mad. Seems that it's now MSN + FoxSports. MSN and FoxSports strike portal deal Bleh. I hate Fox. Too bad.
  8. Mozilla Firefox [win32|linux]/Camino [osx]/Mozilla 1.3.1 [os9]/links [linux, console based]. Internet Explorer has issues with PNGs. I haven't tried Safari yet, but I hear it's decent. I usually end up compiling Firefox from scratch/nightly builds instead of using the precompiled binaries. The problem that I have with Opera is that it's not "for free" per se, unlike Firefox/Camino. A semi-friend of mine complained that there were ads in the program and such, blah blah.
  9. Mainly, I'm interested because I'm really limited on space at 40GB (dual-boot system w/Linux on the side takes up 20GB), and there's no real hardware upgrade route for my laptop. Unless you count getting ripped off by IBM for one of their Deathstars, 80GB for $400USD. This is a system where every bit of space that's able to be saved, should/must. It was just a thought
  10. Nope. But I'll be back in this thread in two-three weeks or so Edit: YAY! Thank you, prathapml! Goodbye, Spymac. Many thanks. Now I can actually have a working email account
  11. Just a thought - is it possible to trim the Nero 6.3.x.x installation? The "required" package for download (read: package 1) from Ahead comes with lots of junk that I'd never need like Wave Editor and Image Drive and stuff. I tried opening up the SFX, but didn't know where to go from there. Overall, after installation, it weighs in at 30+ MB or so. Compare that to burnatonce - less than 5 MB. Any thoughts or comments on this, or how to go about doing this? I did a search and didn't find anything that was really useful along these lines....
  12. I'd kill for a GMail account. u_u My Spymac (also, 1GB email) account has been on the fritz this past month and won't let me pull in new messages. Sick of Spymac, they're even starting to put ads on the webspace pages, slow as well. And I can't use my ISP's mail. But gamehead200 says "50+ posts and one week"... >_<
  13. I used to use GAIM. I used it while I was on Linux. Unlike "newdles" who states that (s)he requires features, I am the exact opposite - all I need is a basic messenger, something that simply allows me to communicate, end of story. Example: file transfer? I'll have someone upload it to my FTP. Maybe I'll try MirandaIM seeing as how it's also open source.... I don't think so. The closest thing that comes to mind is this, but that's only for users who set their status to "invisible" or something. You could always log on with another account that the user doesn't know about and add them to see (unless they set to "block all users not on list").
  14. Mmm, IPB 2.0. Hydrogenaudio switched over a while ago. I'm considering buying a license for it when I get my own forums online. The Administrator CP is pretty slick, I think. (Designing the site + forum locally). Did your friend get IPB 2.0 to work with PHP5? Really? Why? Other than perhaps security issues or bug fixes, it's not like a user will be forced from 1.3.1 --> 2.0 when it is final, no?
  15. Bleh. In addition to the above linked guide, try this site. Somewhat dated, but still very detailed. I used it a year or two ago to modify 5.1 - the last decent and usable version of AIM. I ripped out file transfer, talk, stock ticketer, buddy icons, lots of stuff.... *cough*opens ource alternative software pimpage*cough*
  16. Slight issue with my SP2-integrated CD. From the Autoplay screen: Perform Additional Tasks -> Install .NET Framework doesn't do a thing. I can see that the framework IS on the CD, though - \cmpnents\i386\netfx.cab. Anyone else have this issue? Info: Gold SP0 XP Professional --> SP2 without using nLite (manually slipstreamed using "manual" slipstream instructions) Edit: Never mind, found it. link. Feh, in my panic, I forgot to search. Sorry.
