  1. You need the 48bit Patch (ME48BLBA.EXE) for the HDD. And read:

So I suppose it has something to do with 2016.17-version; maybe only one file. Also with an older version 2015.xx(?) from KernelEx I had tested with new FF-profiles and had never have such security-component-errors.

Presumably KMeleon 74 won't work with any older KernelEx version than 2016.17, but I'll try to change every *.dll from it separately.

@diamant: I already testet it in June (see my post of 12 June). Downgrade the Kexbases.dll to version 16. We'll see, if you get the same result.

At the moment a main prob for KM74Goanna is related to KernelEx probs. To get it running at all in 98SE, I was forced to update KernelEx from basic 4.5.2 to version 2017.16, but something doesn't work right with that. Not only KM74G, but since that update also all my other browsers cannot create a key3.db anymore, except FF2/retrozilla. And although my KernelEx was always set "off" by default, since that update some native Win98 apps got messed too, and compatibility settings don't help. Just hope anyone can figure that out.

Yes, I also can run KM 74G usable on two computers. On my other two KM is slow, freezes after a short time or on some pages like this board. I don't know the reason yet. The profile files are created since KernelEX Kexbases.dll update 16, also Key3.db, here. The creation of Key3.db fails after update to Kexbases 17. I hope jumper find the culprit and solve the problem.

KM worked with the db files of FF 9.0.1, 10.0.12 and 17.ESR, too. The Auxiliary DLL Updates, psapi and uxtheme seem to have no effect in this case.

One more problem is that KM crashes when bookmarking: Runtime error - KM caused an error in MSVCR80... after browser restart the bookmark works. Also (some) KM settings on lower button of duckduckgo startpage don't work or stick.

  4. Yes, I selected different countries and all. The new list will not load, too. It doesn't matter, if KernelEx is enabled or disabled. I selected Spain and Italy, because there are only these countries in this list.

  5. Yes, I ran WebTV Stream on Friday. It started, but the playlist didn't load. Message: Empty playlist. I tried it with VLC 0.8.6a and 0.8.6i.

And it didn't start with vlc version 1.0.3 or 2.2.6 installed.

  6. Java installer errors occur very often. Usually they have nothing to do with 98/ME or KernelEx! A search for error 1330 in the web could help. There are some answers.

I'm not sure anymore, if in this case an older Version of the Windows Installer causes errors. Latest version for 98/ME is 2.0.2600.2.

I found Javafixer.org in the WayBackMachine: Java Fixer

  7. I doesn't know anything about Ren'Py. But I tried to run your Tutorial.exe and the ren'py.exe of version 6.14.1 on two machines and both start and run on my ME/KernelEX 4.5.2 test system. They fail to run on my main computer ME/KernelEX 4.5.2016.17. It requires more tests to clarify, if it has to do with KernelEx 4.5.2016.17.

  8. There are at least two reasons why you can't install the driver. First reason is the inf file is too big. It's about 150 KB. It must be shortened to less than 64 KB! On my systems the files should not bigger than 53 KB. Not needed sections can be deleted.

The second is inside the inf there is a reference to a "athwx.sys" file (Installs athwx.sys (NDIS 5 driver) on 9x platforms). This file has apparently been removed. There is only the athw.sys file for NT systems.

The most suitable inf file entry is: ATHER.DeviceDesc.3091 = "Atheros AR928x Wireless Network Adapter"

  9. It would be great, if someone solves the problem to run 12.1x. I have invested a lot of time without success. We were able to run 12.10 and 12.12 in the background, this means it didn't initialize the GUI. See Kext topic page 13.

The Setup of Qt Web Browser 3.5 and higher requires comp. mode Win2000SP4 and KernelEx must be enabled to run it. Latest Version 3.8.5 based on older Qt framework 4.8.5. Before you allow internet access you must disable Java Script, otherwise QT Web will crash.

  10. http://www.msfn.org/board/uploads/css_built_*_custom.css.*

Yes, it works for Opera Presto. I tested 12.02, 11.64, 10.01, 10.1, 10.63 and 12.18 on XP. The Sign in isn't possible directly especially with 11.64. Possible for example: 1. Zoom to max + Fit to Width, 2. Uncheck Page Style sheet, 3. try it via "IPS Default", if necessary uncheck JavaScript for it.

  11. The files or fragments that scandisk found are often not recoverable. But you can check "Convert to file". Then Scandisk saves the fragments in C. The Filename Extension is CHK. Afterwards you can try open the CHK file(s) with notepad. Perhaps something is readable. Also there are tools like deCHK. DeCHK recognises about 50 file extensions.

There are many free clone tools like HDClone or CloneZilla. I recommend the self-booting version or ISO file, which you burn on CD.
