  1. Hi there. Pretty much what the thread title says... Is there a way to burn MP3 cds in Vista? With XP, all I had to do was send them to the disc drive queue, and then burn it. When I do that with Vista, the MP3 aren't recognized, and all I get is a single track showing with no sound. I understand it might have something to with the disc format... ISO9660, Joliet, Rockridge, etc... If so, does anyone know how to create an MP3 cd image compatible with cd players through Vista.
  2. Okay, and thanks for the info.
  3. Hi. If this question seems too stupid, or of questionable content, I apologize. I'm trying to setup an audio tutorial for a gaming forum I frequent, and it requires saving the instruments from the WinXP 'GM.DLS' as PAT files. Does anyone know if it would/wouldn't be legal for me just to redistribute the PAT files I saved from the DLS? Or, can someone possibly offer a free alternative/equivalent DLS file that I could legally redistribute?
  4. I ended up creating a disc with an audio dummy 1st session track, and the second session iso. I then burned it with Alcohol 120% successfully, so it's not the discs. Still I'm left unable to create the disc with cd-da... To be honest, even when trying on the Win98-XP oses with older version, cdrecord failed ALOT. It has to be the worst piece of free software I've ever attempted to use. Could someone recommend any commercial software that could accomplish the above task? I'd be willing to fork out some cash for a mostly headache free proggy capable of this.
  5. Actually after actually testing the disc, I guess it wasn't the end of my woes... Cdrecord seemed to burn the cd-da and the second session iso propery, but when I go to view the disc it shows up as blank..? I'm using Memorex cd-rws for this. It doesn't seem to matter whether they are burned for the first time or erased/reused discs. Anyone ever get a recently burned disc reading as blank on a Vista 32/64 bit OS?
  6. Seems all I had to do was use the latest version, thanks for the links to the Win32 binaries.
  7. I'm trying to burn a 2 session disc with the cd-da as the first, and an ISO (9660 format) as the second. Maybe cdrecord isn't compatible with Vista? DO you know of any way to do the above with a different app on Vista 32 or 64?
  8. I'm attempting to create a multi session disc with cd-da, using cdrecord on Windows Vista (x86). After running this at the command line: cdrecord -dev=0,0,0 -multi -pad -audio *.wav This is the message I receive after I get a "cdrecord has stopped working" message for each track. The reason I'm using cdrecord is for a very specific purpose, so suggesting alternative burning programs would not be helpful.
  9. Okay, I'll check them out. Thanks a lot people. ;-)
  10. I was wondering... Is there an application that could be run from a hard/flash drive that would remove all registry entries made while it was active, when it is it closed or shutdown?
  11. This actually happens when I'm using WinXP as well, but I'm usually using Win2k on the machine this happens on. When I plug in a WD My Book Essential Edition external hard drive (1TB), Windows 2000 stops responding. The only option I have to regain control is to unplug the drive, without using the safe remove option. This HD does work in Windows ME funnily enough... Anyone ever experience anything like this?
  12. Sounds like you bought an incompatible memory stick. Some of the cheaper alternatives out there don't have a good compatibility rate. After doing a quick google search, you can also determine that the laptop does indeeed support 1GB of RAM per slot. Maybe you should check to see if your laptop's manufacturer has any BIOS upgrades available.
  13. Yes, and you have to take into consideration the hardware as well. If you really want to compare the OSes to each other speed wise, you'll have to run them on the same PC. Back in the day on a dual boot Windows ME/2K PC, the 2K outperformed the 9X system hands down. I kept the ME around for the 9x only programs. Running a dual boot (factory Vista) PC with Vista/XP, I see XP running much faster. It does have a much lower system requirement after all...
  14. Unfortunately the machine I'm trying to run this on can barely handle XP, I was in the attempt to run certain DOS/9X games programs natively that had internet functions. I ended up installing the KernelEx 4 package, and I was able to get the Quicklink Mobile software to work correctly. I installed the extracted drivers manually, but in the device manager there's a "!" by the device. I started up the Quicklink Mobile, and got all the way the "insert the device screen". It just stopped there, so I closed the window. I'm guessing that if I wanted to run this device in Win9x I'd have to recompile the driver's source, and know programming languages? Not to mention that the source is probably not available...
  15. Could someone please list all of the RP9 software requirements, so I can manually download them? I don't have internet access through WinME. No compatible modem drivers...
  16. My bad, and here I had thought the GOTY edition was out already.... (I bought my copy of Fallout 3 when it originally released.)
  17. Hi, I was just wondering if there was a version of the PE builder that worked with XP SP3 already installed? Do I have to dig out my original, non-slipstreamed, disc of my XP to use the latest?
  18. I can't seem to find Admin options. Does it have to be installed to a HD for the USB creator to work? I've only run the Live Cd on my modern PC... --Edit-- I ended up installing it to a separate HD, and found out that there is no USB creator utility for Xubuntu. Currently it's only available for Ubuntu, but I attempted to install it anyways. What I got was an error regarding a Syslinux dependency not being possible to install. After further Googling of Linux Live USB options, I found on a couple Linux forums a recommendation for the Linux version of UNetbootin...
  19. Opening the Xubuntu iso with WinRAR, I can see the largest subdirectory in the disc is the "casper" folder, and it contains a "filesystem.squashfs" file. Is this the source of the "SQUASHFS" errors I received? I'm looking for a generic way to make any bootable cd/dvd, bootable through an usb drive. Without the need of loading "iso" files, they are usually to large to run in the RAM of the PC I'm using. So after extracting/copying a bootable cd/dvd's contents, is there a generic way to make the extracted/copied files bootable on an usb drive, without using "grub4dos"? -OR- Does anyone know of a specific method to make this paricular Linux (Xubuntu) bootable through an USB drive?
  20. I didn't know you needed a tool, but on a couple of tries I had used an utility named just "usb format". The irony of my chosen user name is not lost, but ... yes. How do I tell what drives are recognized as what?
  21. I'm attempting to create an USB version of a Xubuntu Live cd to install on an old PC of mine, but I'm getting some issues after creating it with the UNetbootin-3.72 Windows version. I believe it uses a distribution of Syslinux to create bootable USB drives, because I saw a "Syslinux 3.72" flash by when I successfully created a Linux Puppy Live usb. Before anyone asks, I already attempted the "apt-get install usb-creator" command from inside the Xubuntu-9.04 desktop cd (Intel) on my modern PC running WinVista. It asked for additional libraries, but I didn't have any way of downloading them. Here's the problem: Using UNetbootin for Windows, I tried creating a Xubuntu Live usb using the same method that worked for Puppy, but after the Xubuntu splash/load screen finishes I get these messages: Several lines of this... [Some Numerals] device descriptor read/64, error -110 Several lines of this... [Some Numerals] sd 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to offline device Several lines of this... [Some Numerals] SQUASHFS errors: unable to read (page/fragment cache block) It finally leaves me off at the command prompt. Any ideas as to what went wrong?
  22. Thanks for all the material Jaclaz. It seems the grub4dos toolbox method requires that you need to enter the boot parameters manually, but I am interested in getting it to run an iso directly instead of extracting the image beforehand. I guess I have some reading to do. The grub4dos tutorial doesn't seem cover usb booting though, and I'm not interested in installing grub4dos to my hard drive. I also didn't understand how to use the DSFOK to scrub USB flash drives, but thanks anyway.
  23. I seem to be having a problem with using Grub4dos to make a flash pen drive bootable. I initially used the grub installer, with the gui, to install Grub4dos to a 1GB flash pen drive. I installed Grub4dos using the folowing option throught the grubinstaller: 1.) I checked the "Disk" option then selected the correct drive. 2.) Under the "Part List" option, I refreshed then selected the "Whole Disk MBR". 3.) I clicked on the "Install" button, and waited for the confirmation. I then copied the contents of a bootable disc to the flash drive along with the "menu.lst" and "grldr" files from the grub4dos distribution. I booted the PC with the flash drive , and it worked correctly, as far as I could tell. The problem is... I reformatted the same flash drive, and went through the same steps as above. This time I copied a "different bootable disc's" (Xubuntu) contents to the drive, but when the Grub4dos menu appears, it only has the options from the "first disc" (Windows ME) I had used to flash drive to load. Now I'm pretty new to partitioning/multi-booting, but I'm thinking this has something to do with the MBR I intially installed to the flash drive. Is there a way I can remove it from the flash drive, or is it possible I installed Grub4dos's MBR elsewhere?
  24. All Oblivion comparisons aside, you should probably enjoy the game if your familiar with the first two Fallouts. Depending of what system your buying it for, I would go with the "Game of the Year Edition". Whoever mentioned the $40 price tag was most likely looking at the originally released game, without any of the mod/expansion additions.
