@saugatak - thanks for the changes. 1. GRE vs GRC, yeah 2. Outlook instructions - changed 3. wordpad - yes, this is all you need for wordpad. as for the inf file, sometimes windows gets cranky if you don't at least have the inf file, that's why i used to change their contents instead. just comment it out in SYSOC. as long as its gone from SYSOC, nothing in the inf needs to be changed. 4. cleanmgr - yep, that's what you need to comment out to remove it. 5. nero - did you follow step 21? change your device prior to burnination, you should be all set @pene - 1. ok about the MSI extractor and the msxml4 note, thanks. 2. without ie, windiz update (and probably windows update too) would suggest updates to ie, outlook, etc. let me say that i have zero intention of tricking windows update to think that ie is installed. the os and office and other programs are tricked, update works totally differently. just in case anyone was going to ask 3. malicious software tool - don't know anything about it, couldn't tell ya. tommyp probably has the regvalue in his notes. i take it you want to extract the .REG and do it that way. 4. wga links updated, thanks @oleg_II - 1. yeah i dont like WU either but some folks really want it so it would be an optional thing anyway. 2. WU now checks serial? i thought that was genuine advantage. and as for WGA, with my files, you might discover that you're never bothered about it. have you been? 3. if you delete all .CHM and .HLP like my sp4, be prepared to remove them from TXTSETUP and LAYOUT. otherwise windows will have a lot of files it says are missing. it wont really save you very much, and the effort deleting CHM and HLP in the setup files is huge. 4. a 'recipe' for creating outlook would just cause people great pain if folks want this, have a look around the 'net or wait until it pops up again

pene, there are two ways windows updates itself, and in the INF installer text, you'll see a file with a CPL extension. that is the control panel applet for "keep windows up to date automatically." that, and updates via a url typed in the explorer bar (after having right clicked and installed mshtml.inf from my fileset) are what i was investigating. i need someone to use my fileset, replace the contents of AU.INF with the CODEBOX contents in my post with the chili recipe, and install. then install mshtml.inf, and see if 1) the control panel applet works, 2) windowsupdate works via "windowsupdate.micrsoft.com" typed into an explorer windows titlebar.
-
@electrician - you are an nlite user, and we want you to make sure that you are putting of the files that you need to in the "keep" box. are you? http://www.vorck.com/2ksp5.html#nlitekeep @pene - sorry. post 705 issues: 1. the WindowsUpdateAgent question - my post before this one has a CODEBOX that has an INF file in it. i need someone to see if it installs Windows Update using my fileset. Use my files, and save the CODEBOX contents as AU.INF, replacing my empty one. my goal is to add the background windows update agent as well as the IE one. what you would do is visit windows update by typing the url into an explorer bar (after having installed MSHTML.INF from my fileset). 2. the ROOTSUPD question - i believe this is applicable only to IE. these do not seem to be certificates for digital file signatures, etc. @saugatak - right click on msoe or mshtml inf file, whichever you want, and select "install." as for the Limited Edition Outlook 6 Installer, i don't offer that anymore. but, uh, let's say that in theory, you might have a pm with a hypothetical link by sunday night where it maybe might be found possibly. @all - remember, when using my files, that if you don't change the name of DELFILES, if you just leave it alone and ignore it, NO files will be deleted. HFSLIP will only delete files if you add a dot tee ex tee extension to it. personally, i don't delete any files, but it's there for people who want to slim down their source about one meg (hardly worth it, but then, some folks have their reasons). @moat - new link? @tomcat76 - HFSLIP isn't in the business of deleting files, unless you rename DELFILES (which does not contain mscoree.dll anyway). this dll is part of dot net. it's nice to see that everyone is starting to get good at this in other news, there has been no word on getting our own forum. anyone got an "in" with any of the moderators? we'd either like a subforum here, or a "project" one like nlite has (which do you guys and gal think is better)?

i bought Paragon Hard Disk Manager at http://www.paragon.ag/hdm/ then downloaded BartPE at http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ then used winxp to make a BartPE bootable live CD with the partition software on it. now, whatever the system, wherever i go, when i need to do something to a system like partition it, i don't really care about what it's running, i just boot with the CD, repartition and run the software i want, then reboot and i'm done. fwiw, i know it does not apply in this instance, but while i'm at it i wanted to point out that chilifrei64 has a script that will allow you to install some programs on 2003.

saugatak - i meant 'hit reload,' as i was just in the process of adding that when you posted TommyP installs codecs in a different way and so does not have a need for including the wmfdist in his own HF directory. outlook - no, I won't be adding this back. I kept the installer for people to look at, but I realized that it's too much effort to get something to work when most everyone tells me they use Thunderbird anyway. quickbooks - if you can tolerate the product, that is, it can be used with my fileset. other than updating i have not found any other issues. Oleg_II - version numbers - sorry i will do so. never really occurred to me. pene - see TommyP's note about delfiles, the naming is on purpose, as for copying files over, HFSLIP grabs everything in the directory. skipping the files in question just adds a layer of complexity to HFSLIP to fix something that i thought was convenient (since it's a list of files deleted from the cd, that info is useful to me). WindowsUpdateAgent - i have it because i play with implementing it now and again even when ripping ie out. i'll probably end up making an INF to install it, and call it AU.INF in my fileset so people can install it if they want it. later, though. KB894320 - i added it to the picture, oops! good catch KB903235 - the_guy says it's in the cumulative IE update now anyway, it was an oversight on my part mdmrpci.inf - yeah, it's a file left out of the german version, so i will be fixing that, since my fileset has a lot of german users. the_guy - 903235 delisted, thank you (but you say "both on his site," what other one did i miss??) os2fan2 - ah! i knew it was viper something. thanks for the services url.

@saugatak - 1. Windows2000-KB890859-x86-ENU.EXE is necessary. hit "reload" on your browser and have a closer look at my list. 2. which media player hotfix? WindowsMedia9-KB891122-x86-Global-ENU.exe - for Windows 2000 WindowsMedia-KB891122-x86-ENU.exe - for Windows XP extract wmfdist or wmfdist95 and put it in HF. if you aren't installing WMP, you can still use one of these, because they are codecs only (see "Media Player 9/10 Codecs (optional)" note in instructions.)

@triplex - anomaly with german lnaguage edition. anyway i will make the change. thank you for finding it!
-
@kreative19 - first, you have WAY too much in your HF folder that is unnecessary. visit the link below and look up IE 6 and make the directory contents match. http://www.vorck.com/2ksp5.html#4 http://www.vorck.com/2ksp5.html#ie6 you are also missing the directx9 cab files, BDANT.CAB and DXNT.CAB. i don't recognize some of those other cabs, but I am sure folks will chime in...

Detect which W2K Update Rollup 1 for SP4 is instal
fdv replied to pianoman's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
yes, scsiport is a new version with a new timestamp. i will come back and edit this post because i can't remember the version number or file date in question. there are no registry changes between v1 and v2, so that method of detection is not useful. -
@Helios666 - you zipped up two files, one of which was the right one, but also your setup log. we don't really need that, what we needed was the HFSLIP log, which is in the same directory as HFSLIP, and is called ERROR_REPORT.TXT, not setuperr.log. Anyway, it seems an INF file called IE.INF did not install, not sure why. You could reanme IE.IN_ from my fielset to end with an F, right click, and install it I guess. try seeing Oleg_II's tip: delete the OEACCESS.INF and IEACCESS.INF files, or better yet redownload my fileset. @triplex - my fileset is language neutral. try the sp5 fileset (even if you are using sp3 or sp4) anyway, you'll have better results. no one has ever reported this file missing. it's a modem driver file, and maybe you're the one person who has a computer that looks for it and the bug was just waiting to be found? anyway, as i say, try the sp5 fileset. it's been known to work with every language; if you are at wits' end, you could take out your modem, install the os, and add your modem back i guess. you will see it has its own section in the TXTSETUP and LAYOUT files, and i am not sure why microsoft did this. @Oleg_II - my chief debugger these days a new FDV fileset is up that takes care of this xEACCESS.IN_ problem (i did forget to CAB the files). i fixed this last wednesday or so, so everyone be sure to re-download the latest fileset. sorry all. @x-pert - the TCP/IP v6 addon that you cite is only for SP1! If you download and extract it, it will even say so. It is a technology preview, not a patch. Don't use it. @ALL - the new Oleg_II Build of HFSLIP is up, which fixes that MSHTML error when using my files. It had to do with DirectX 9 slipstreaming; microsoft will try to get just about anything and everything to install the security problem prone MS html system on your computer, and DirectX9 was no exception.

@electrician - you were not intended to be smeared at all. we are sometimes frank and leave out smileys, that's all, i know tommyp and that was not him being sarcastic or anything in that passage. we don't smear our supporters, we usually ask them for input you know, it does get confusing becuase this thread is, well, linear! i myself cannot follow half the stuff that goes on, because ALL of you guys have such great observations PER POST that doing support after hitting reply sort of blends everything together in one's head. know what i mean? that's one of the reasons i just applied for creation of a new forum for HFSLIP because the thread thing isn't really working out so well. what you spotted was an oddball bug that i suppose would happen eventually, and now we have a warning for it, because it could conceivably happen to someone else under the right circumstances. as for the script, some major fixes happened and i just reported a bug with my fileset having to do with mshtml and directx 9 integration to tommyp. he's back in the lab trying to squeeze more weasel grease out of the competition's products so, be sure to grab the latest once it posts, as it's important to get the fixed version. also, sorry to all for the chaos around here, it's the growing pains, we hope to move things to a new forum if we are approved. again, i want to reiterate that tommyp and i are hobbyists and when and if we move to a new forum, we will need all of you experienced users to give us assists as necessary, just like the nlite forum has become - more users, more knowledge. thanks to all for your support, thanks for reading carefully, thanks for being patient with us, and thanks for using HFSLIP and the IE Removal Fileset!
-
calios666 - please edit your post, and attach a zipfile of the TWO files we need to see: 1. ERROR_REPORT.TXT 2. HFNETCHK -V -F C:\WU.TXT Thanks
-
calios666 - we need to see what is going on. srvinstw.exe is not critical for slipstreaming. BTW, agentswitcher -- I like how you are thinking there, but unfortunately it doesn't get installed into Firefox this way. You have to install it when running Firefox.
-
@saugatak - outlook support is gone because the various patches make registry changes that seem to prevent it from running correctly. not sure why, and no one really uses outlook anymore anyway, having moved to thunderbird, so my fileset won't support it now. if your syssetup has semicolons in front of msoe and wab, it means you are using the fileset from last month. i have a new fileset on the site, but the changes are so minor for most that it's no worry, but the new fileset won't even copy the outlook files over. i would steer clear from outlook now. removing win2k's built-in fax services will not kill other fax programs. as far as i have tested, anyway. those files were for microsoft's own proprietary fax software built into the os -- their junk can't even compare to winfax. the cpu idle issue is, unbelievably, STILL in the update rollup v2! @triplex - this is the right place for this, but hfslip only tracks its own errors, not those from my fileset, and the mshtml error was an obscure directx 9 issue, see tommyp's post below)
-
@Oleg_II - I have pulled support for Outlook completely now. You can delete the addreg section in MSOE.INF. Then, delete my MSOE50.IN_, then and rename MSOE.INF to be MSOE50.IN_. When you install again you'd have it. The trouble is, the hotfixes just mess with the registry keys and supporting it isn't quite possible for me how I have things set up with the files now. Do you still have my Outlook 6 standalone installer? If so, that's your best bet. That sucker was Limited Edition and I don't have it for download anymore, but IIRC it worked fine... @All - Uh, hmm.. How to say this. If we move to a new forum, this will mean: - that we will be tucked under the "other member projects" page, locked far away, and we run the risk of people not seeing us. Of course, we do have the first pinned post. Our hitrate is over 70,000 as I write this. We canput a link to a new forum, no problem. However... - TommyP and I are just hobbyists. We're a couple of regular guys just like you all (except for you gals like OS2Fan). TommyP works long hours managing the Zoo and I administrate a nursing home for senile COBOL programmers. We don't do this stuff full time, like the competition, which is still trying to figure out automatic folder creation and how to use fewer than 21 folders, etc. (When not busy scolding people for suggesting fixes). At the end of the day, TommyP smokes his fine cigars and composes sonnets, and I sip cognac and paint pictures of the landscape. No, not really. But what I am getting at is that if we get our own forum, the demand for support will increase as well. What we don't want is to "do this so much" we don't have any time for anything else. What I need from you all is an indication that you'll bookmark a new forum, if we go that route (after all, it is up to the admins ultimately), and will lend a hand in the support and visit as often as you visit the Win NT/2K/2K3 forum. Is there a consensus that a new forum is warranted from everyone? We've heard from two or three so far. And if so, have we got EVERYONE'S backing for visiting and support? Also, Saturday is "tell a friend about HFSLIP" day Be sure to spread the word, especially to admins who could use this fantastic tool. (But be sure to bring in people who aren't already MSFN members, let's get the word out about the forums too).

@Oleg_II, i am glad to report that you can use HelpExplorer. http://www.kamasoftware.com/download.php Download HelpExplorer and extract DINO_D67_v1.01_demo. Find the BIN and GRC subdirectories and move them to C:\WINNT\ Create a shortcut for \BIN\helpexplorer.exe on your desktop. It uses the Gecko rendering engine. The unfortunate thing is that if you associate files so that it opens when you double-click, it won't load the file. You have to load the program first, then the .CHM file. I'll see if that can't be dealt with.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898461 is not in the Rollup. Rest assured, we will be taking care of this. One wonders why MS didn't do this in 1999. More details in a few hours. Anyone else have chronic insomnia? @electrician - your accidental IE-free XP was wonderful to read about missing SYSOC creates an XP without a lot more, like for example COM would be missing. Such a config, would, believe it or not, be useable for most tasks.
-
Is it any good? In and of itself, no... it's really not worth much. It doesn't include the latest patches for IE 5.01, never mind 6, it still has the HALT bug, but it IS worth using if you're going to create a fully slipstreamed Windows 2000. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=32125

Hey man! So I'm on here at the ambulance garage again tonight. Not really doing much HFSLIP work, true. We're at a bit of a sticking point, we have about three ways of refining a process and TommyP is working on the best method. <shouts> Hey TP tell us what's up! (He's in the lab, trying to distill weasel grease out of a certain competitor's product). Okay well anyway I have an alpha that I've been tinkering with and this next revision will I think concentrate most on doing what it does a little more simply. At PeterGau's prodding I am also looking into ISO creation, but the trouble is, the EXE that other people bundle with their software is a Microsoft file and is not freeware - as I understand, it's not legal to just ship. So, I have a Win32 ver of MKISOFS and am working out the best way to make an ISO with that. When things are quiet, you know we're testing things, basically ttyl - And now, a quote from Jack Handey: "I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on."

As tommyp noted, a new milestone is being worked that fill remedy some recent bugs. after that we'll see what we have and then consider a forum. by now we have a quarter mile of wreckage in the form of posts that refer to bugs long solved so yeah, it's probably time we thought about such a move... @Oleg_II yes, it will... without IE, you really do not need that patch. for the sake of preventing confusion, i direct folks to use it, but without ie it isn't necessary. it merely updates some shell files to fix the internet zone / local zone issues, but without ie, nothing else is allowed to cross between zones. yes, you could if you wanted to. .chm files fixed. outlook no longer suppored. standalone outlook6.exe installer available from (somewhere).
-
Thanks saugatak. HFSLIP and my fileset are still undergoing revisions for the next version, so the timing in that respect works out okay I guess... Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 – v2 I know tommyp is busy today but I'll bring it to his attention. Fixed files: scsiport.sys fastfat.sys rdpwd.sys mountmgr.sys mdac.cat I'll bet all of the catfood in my ex-gf's house that the SCSI and HAL problems still exist.
-
@Oleg_II - hey man! well, i posted a little while back that the new ie fix trashes outlook now. not sure why. i am working on a new fileset to just take it out. i still have to test my standalone outlook6.exe with the new ie hotfixes, but i think outlook compatability is gone now with ms's latest hotfixes. just the way it goes. as for HTML display, am working on that as well but again it's the same thing, it used to work for me, and now with the latest hotfixes, it does not.

@all USA/Louisiana folks - In order to file online Katrina damage claims with FEMA, you are required to only use IE. If you are IE free and use FF or Mozilla, you will need the User Agent Switcher. Spread the word as necessary. Yes, this leaves Mac and Unix users out in the dark... (And several public Internet access terminals were set up at the disaster site, and they boot Linux.) Thanks, FEMA! @PeterGau - might want to try Fedora Core instead.
