  1. Check the Display Properties -> Screen Saver tab. Make sure "On resume, display Welcome screen" is checked.
  2. I am creating some shortcuts to start some process at a higher level. This is easy accomplished with, for example: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "runhigh" /high "C:\Program Files\AppFolder\Appname.exe" However, this causes a command prompt window to quickly open when the command is executed, then close when finished. Is there a way to suppress this window?
  3. yes, do what net_user said and go to the toshiba website using the link provided. Click on downloads. To enable all the functions of your laptop, you'll need to download all of the drivers and maybe a lot of the utilities.
  4. Hate to dig up a zombie thread, but I am having this exact same issue. Did you ever find a solution?
  5. Thanks guys. Exactly what I was looking for.
  6. This may sound like a dumb question, but is there a way to have comments in the RunOnceEx.cmd?
  7. Thank you. I'll give it a try.
  8. After a clean installation using my UAXP CD, when I visit a Japanese website, I have to insert my XP disc for Windows to find the files to enable Japanese language support in order to show the characters, rather than blank squares. It grabs files from i386/LANG and from i386. Can I somehow install these files during the UA? How?
  9. Since you state you know very little about the registry, the best thing for you to do is download a program called Starter. You can get it here. This program will show you every program that is set to startup with Windows, and let you disable/enable them.
  10. I believe the SQL server on my machine was installed by Vegas Video and/or Adobe Photoshop Elements 4. After the updates, the SQL Service Manager was placed in my startup folder. Not sure why, or which update did it, but it was easy enough to disable from starting up. I don't see the other issues you are having.
  11. After installing the latest updates from Microsoft, I now have "SQL Service Manager" starting up in my tray. I disabled it in the registry from starting, but why was it there? Title Edited - Please follow the forum rules from now on -- Martin L
  12. Change the relevant registry keys to report your IE version as 6: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent] "Version"="MSIE 6.0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform] "SV1"="" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Version Vector] "IE"="6.0000"
  13. Yah, I've googled it... The only suggestion I have found is to allow svchost.exe complete connection to the outside world, which I refuse to do. After much trial, I've got windows update working now by opening up ports 80 and 443 to svchost.exe on the following IP ranges. 64.4.*.* 64.158.*.* 65.59.*.* 67.72.*.* 207.46.*.* 208.172.*.* A pretty big hole, but it's working, and safer than allowing all address.
  14. I know the IP address of windows update change every 300 seconds, but is there some kind of range I can use to allow svchost.exe access so windows update works without opening up all addresses to my computer?
  15. I need a backup facility that is capable of recovering the project that created the backup. Confused? Let me explain: All the software I have used requires the user to create a "project". The project tells the software where and what data should be backed up. Now, when one reinstalls Windows after a reformat, the data is easily recoverable, but the project is not restored. This means that the backup set is not usable for an incremental backup, because the software doesn't know that the backup set exists. So, the next backup requires many DVD's of already backed up information to be reburned, wasting valuable time and media. Anyone know of a solution? ETA: I am not looking for a complete system restoration solution like Ghost, as the backup sets are used to move data around different computers.
  16. The best thing to do is use the search function of these forums and search for the software you are trying to install. Chances are, there is a workable solution someone has already figured out. If you are unable to find any search results for a specific application, then there is always AutoIt. Again, search these forums for any information.
  17. Well, I spoke too soon. It freezes regardless if the file is called abcpy.ini or setup.ini when in virutal pc.... what am I doing wrong here... It works fine from the command line... Are you guys installing this from CD/DVD or do you copy to HDD first in your UA?
  18. I am a little confused right here. Do you mean to rename the abcpy.ini that you provided to setup.ini and replace the original setup.ini? I tried that and the installation froze at "Time remaining: 0 seconds." EDIT: OK... copying your abcpy.ini to the install directory and deleting the setup.ini file got it working for me. Many thanks for the file!
  19. Alright, I just followed the Office 2k3 unattended guide and the unattended install (advanced version) is working just fine and installs just the components that I chose. BUT... My install folder is 2GB! I think I have duplicated some files somewhere. Can someone tell me the proper directory structure? This is my main directory structure, and I think some of these directories are not needed. EDIT: Nevermind. I just did the procedure over again and am looking good with a normal sized install folder.
  20. Installing the Codestuff Starter is easy enough using startersetup.exe /S But after the install it brings up an explorer window showing the shortcuts (C:\Users\TheUser\Start Menu\Programs\CodeStuff Starter). Is there a way to shut down the explorer window?
  21. Still doing research, but I am seriously concidering the A8N32-SLI Deluxe. It's an expensive board, but has _all_ the bells and whistles. That, and I've always had good luck with ASUS boards. As far as the X800XT, you really think it's better than the 6600GT? I just about ordered that card today for two and a half. I've always favored nVidia, but if the X800XT is worth it, I'll go that route. B)
  22. Hi folks. I have an ASUS P4C800E-Dlx with a P4 2.8 @ 3.2. I am moving to AMD 64bit platform and have EOL'd this motherboard. I'm going to give it as a Christmas present to my brother, who is heavily into 3D gaming, but has a 1.8 machine, LOL. Anyway, I want the best AGP video card this machine can handle without any CPU limiting. I mean, I don't want to waste money on GPU power that will never be utilized. Budget is under $300US. I find most of the current generation of graphics cards are PCI-express only, so I am a little confused at what is available and good for the aging AGP. Current card is a crappy Geforce4mx, which has served me well for years, but doesn't do so good at gaming.
