  1. Yeah, I can, and only let the localadmin account log on locally... that might be a doer - just have to make sure no-one changes their logon domain...
  2. The only way i know how to not have any options on the logon screen is with a workgroup, but don't want to step backwards with security. Hopefully someone out there has come across this issue. I'm going to be removing the cacheing of logons, as i don't want the user's to be able to log on without authenticating with the server, and I don't want the users to be able to create user's. I guess the better way of doing what i want is to "Hide" the additional logon domain option... and assign the users "power user" access... but i know that will have (management based) implications... i'm sure you all know what i mean...
  3. I know it's a bit of a wild one, but i want to restrict my users from being able to change their login domain, and can't find instructions anywhere on how to remove the This Computer local domain from the logon screen. As a part of my Unattend i am already adding a domain group to the local admin's group, so all user's get admin rights to every computer (all but the bare essential profile data is stored on the local computer). Does anyone have any idea how to either remove or "hide" the above from the logon screen?
  4. I have now found that you need some, if not all of the files listed in the thread (http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=15709) "Tutorial: Add Explorer To Windows PE!" I have found that the MSC file you are opening, must also reside on a read/write meduim, such as a ramdrive. Will post response with final resolution for those who would like to know. MP.
  5. I've tried registering the DLL files in the Startnet.cmd file with the command line "regsvr32.exe [DLL Filename]", however I get the below error messages; MMCBASE.DLL - mmcbase.dll was loaded but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered. MMCNDMGR.DLL - DLLRegisterServer in mmcndmgr.dll succeded. MMCSHEXT.DLL - LoadLibrary("MMCshext.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found. Am I doing the right thing by trying to register the DLL's on bootup?? MP.
  6. Does anyone know what files are needed to run the MMC under WinPE? I have copied the following files to the I386\sys32 dir, however I still can't get the MMC to run... MMC.exe MMCBase.dll MMCndmgr.dll MMCshext.dll Does anyone have any ideas? Michael.
  7. I might also add; The HDD is being detected and used by VMWare as SCSI not IDE. Michael.
  8. I have a simlar problem, I have followed cubie's guide step by step multiple times, but cannot get VMWare to boot off the disk (have checked VM Bios boot order). Only factor I can thing of; I am using an external USB HDD mount to hold my 6GB DESKTOP hard drive for development work... Should that have any impact? Michael.
  9. Quick one; Can you tell me why it the XPe image needs to be created off a single partition? why can't you just "build" to a folder, and then use the MS "ISOCreator" progie to burn to a CD? wouldn't that work as long as you have the ntbtldr & Boot.ini files? (or is there more to the picture that I am missing?) PS- Keep up the good work; I should finish following your guide tomorrow... Regards, Michael Patten
  10. CuBie, Here is a comment for you; You Are Good. Satisfied that people are leaving comments now? Regards, Michael Patten
  11. On my PE CD I have; * MS ResKit "Shutdown" utility, * Windows Explorer * Wordpad * Notepad * Calculator * All "Standard" Control Panel Applets (Incl Ird!) * Symantec Ghost * MS IE (however not working properly at the moment) I am surprised how few people using the "Windows Explorer" as a file manager! Also using Explorer as a system shell ! (Looks and behaves like regular desktop windows, with Start menu, etc ! ) Currently working on getting IE to work on PE... Does anyone know a good way to generate a RAMDISK, and assign the drive letter to a variable?
  12. Fixed problem with PIF Files. - Copied existing links such as "Notepad" from the Start Menu. I've also added the following Reg Keys to remove the "Recent Docs" and "Favs" from the start menu; [HKLM\PE_SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer] "NoRecentDocsMenu"=dword:00000001 "NoFavoritesMenu"=dword:00000001 (Attach to the Windows PE "System Hive" as "HKLM\PE_SOFTWARE" ! ) Michael.
  13. Does anyone know how to enable IE in PE? I would rather remain with the "MS Standard" programs... Will now try exporting Reg settings, and copying Progfiles\IE to PE CD. Will let you know how I go... May need ramdrive... would rather not. Rgds, Michael.
  14. I have used Cubie's instructions to create a Windows PE with Explorer. ( http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=15709 ) However, I am unable to get the Shutdown or Log Off buttons to do anything? (well, the Shutdown pulls up the "shut down"/"restart" window, but that's it...) Does anyone know how to set any and/or all of these options to re-boot the computer? ( I have currently got the Windows ResKit "Shutdown" program listed in Start menu "Shutdown.exe -t 3" ) I am also having a problem with Shortcuts placed in the "Default Desktop" folder... They are being duplicated, and Windows comes back "Cannot run ...win32program.pif" I'm trying to run the exe, not the PIF link! Why does PE think the PIF file is an EXE? Regards, Michael Patten
