  1. Oopsie, I uploaded the wrong BMP file Yours more or less same as my correct file and since for some reason my upload service does not work, I encourage people to use your file
  2. There's a small problem in 9.7.2 regarding Miranda IM. in 9.7.1 things looks like so : http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835//IconsHere.png in 9.7.2 they're like that : http://www.hot.ee/tmeeco/PICS/IconsGone.png Every other thing seems to work very nicely ...and I fixed the start menu button on Watercolor Emico EB Superbar, here's the BMP and INI file, just place them into the approporiate theme folder and reapply the skin, then start button should look ok compared to other elements ^^ http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835//BLUEC_STARTBUTTON_BMP11.bmp (wrong file, see next post for right one) http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835//skin_Superbar.ini
  3. For example, in pure DOS and apparently in Win XP you can allocate very large chunks of XMS at once. On Win98 (possible others too) you are limited to 2048KB per handle. Is there any way to change the block size when Windows has kicked in ? In pure DOS I can allocate a 64MB block if I want with single handle. The XMS memory tab in program properties only adjust total amount of XMS available to the program, but for block size I have no options... ...just trying to find a way to make my life easier so I won't have to juggle between several XMS blocks in my program
  4. Hehe, nice info on the 98 bit ^^ Modern SSDs should all have their own internal wear leveling setups so this should not really be a big problem, especially when you get rid of the swapfile or place it in RAM.
  5. So if I put a clean KERNEL32.DLL into the backup folder, I will not be getting uninstall errors etc. ? If so, lovely
  6. These devices are integrated into the chipset, you won't see any physical USB controller chips. modern mobos have even 5 controllers in them, for the sake of performance, one controller per 2 ports (and one hub per 2 ports). Single USB port can handle 12MBit or 480Mbit data transfer speeds (depending on if its USB 1.1 or 2.0, no idea about USB 3.0) but if you have 4 ports on one controller all those ports share that 480 or 12MBit bandwidth, so to overcome it more controllers are used. You get better copy speeds if you have USB flash sticks in different USB ports (i.e not next to each other)... I hope it made any sense to you ^^
  7. Automatic Update did not do anything at all, when I clicked restart and install nothing further happened :/ BUT for example on Download page all numbers are gone now, and the page arrows on this forum are now squares... kinda seems I'm in a limbo state here :/
  8. This is what Opera 11 installer gives me when I click "accept and install" : "Failed to obtain write access to installation folder. Error code: 6" so far, only tried Win2K setting on the installer.
  9. I already have the stuff from that site This is great, thänkers ^^ I'll be making my own skin now, I hope i'll not run into too much problems...
  10. I'd like to make some skin(s) but I have not found any info about it. I found a link once on Tihiy's site but is gone...
  11. I have just made the fans in my PC to run at half the speed... in a PSU the fan is almost useless, and on a CPU those few extra C make no difference in performance. GFX card fans are the most noisy ones though, the smaller the worse it gets.
  12. Not really. Just for the record: http://www.docx.net/ http://www.docx.net/how-to-convert-docx-to-doc docx has NOTHING to do with doc, it's basically XML inside a zipped container. Just in case: http://www.nativewindsofmontana.com/software/docx2rtf.html jaclaz Aha, good to know A friend of mine messed with DOCX and said that to me that they're zipped DOC files... so this is not true then.
  13. XMplay is a good choice aswell, very small and light, and can also make use of Winamp plugins. In fact I even hold it on a USB stick so I don't have to use "crap" on others' PCs
  14. like we say here : "repetition is the mother of wisdom"
  15. so much for me not reading through the topics, lol
  16. Regarding Paragon NTFS for Win98, it is now free, though it requires registration for downloading. I've been using it for quite a while and have had no issues, but I've kept away from 4GB+ files aswell... If I had more time and looked into windows programming, and knew C/C++, I'd be more than häppy to help with some file system driver. ASM + DOS works for me though, but my x86 is not half as good as my Z80 and 680x0 are

  18. I need to look up K-meleon then, I'm always out for more performance (on a 1.4GHz Tualatin) OpenOffice is pretty good. As far as DOCX goes, perhaps try unzipping them and see what your software says about it. (DOCX files are Zipped DOC files)
  19. Sorry for double post, but THIS WORKS !!! MDGx = total jawusumness ^^
  20. I was browsing the MDGx's fantastic site and found something interesting : http://www.mdgx.com/newtip4.htm#AUTO Gonna try this at home ^^
  21. Yea, it asks for IPC$ password. I did a workaround, which was creating a user account on XP machine with my 98 account name. It is only a workaround, because if I took that setup to work, it would not be able to do anything regarding network. My old setup did, and I had no passwords etc. either.
  22. holy * Now I wonder what all those numbers mean...
  23. Desktop restore does come in handy Regarding Folder Options, on XP it works perfectly... when I apply settings of current folder to all folders, so happens, and file arrangement is also passed. But on 98 it seems everything gets passed except file arrangement, which gets reset to arrange by name :/ I wonder where are all the view settings stored ? DESKTOP.INI files ?
  24. I have one question regarding AutoPatcher... I installed it, and now I got a several second long wait before icons appear on desktop. MSGSRV32.EXE is what is waiting there... the wait does not happen when I have networking disabled. I had the problem on my previous install too but it just went away after couple of reboots, but this time it has stayed... EDIT: Problem solved. It was caused by Directory Services update. I did a manual install of it, then uninstalled it from Add/Remove programs and everything is back to normal
  25. It works for desktop only or other stuff too ? desktop stays fine unless I change resolution, or go in safe mode I tried looking through the registry but I could not notice anything regarding icon arrangement stuff... i'd be quite happy if icons stayed arranged by type rather than anything else (windows seems to default to arrange by name).
