  1. I could run the latest SketchUp 7.1 with KernelEx v 4.0 Final 2. Here is how I installed it 1. Decompress GoogleSketchUpWEN.exe 2. Edit GoogleSketchUp7.msi with Orca, delete "VersionNT>=501" in LaunchCondition 3. Run GoogleSketchUp7.msi. During installation there was a warning "Could not write value SketchUpModule to a key". I just ignored it When running SketchUp the first time, I encountered "Create File failed for C:\windows\Temp\skpB154.TMP" too. Also the toolbars are corrupted. However these problems did not affect the functioning of the program
  2. Can this be overcome by increasing the value of GDIMaxHeapSize in win.ini? When this value is changed, will it be effective at once or a reboot is needed? Will RP10 have an interface for tuning this value? Or will it be tuned automatically by RP10?
  3. Beta2 + Simplified Chinese Win98SE + KernelEx 4 Final 2 - Drwatson runs on startup - No more BSOD at normal shutdown - However, when Kernel Task Manager said "System seems unstable" and I pressed the "Shut Down" button to close all programs, system crashed with BSOD Otherwise Beta2 looks stable for me
  4. Beta1 + Simplified Chinese Win98SE + KernelEx 4.0 Final Used for 3 days (11-12 hours a day). So far it seems very stable (though Kernel Task Manager often says "System appears unstable"). No problem with YouTube in IE When will the shutdown problem be fixed?
  5. rpXalpha5 + Simplified Chinese Win98SE + KernelEx 4.0 Final - stable so far - shutdown problem similar to Alpha 2 rpXbeta0 + Simplified Chinese Win98SE + KernelEx 4.0 Final - after running for 5 hours, a shortcut menu of a Visual FoxPro 6.0 program went crazy (became very wide, later even enlarged to full screen). Could only be fixed by rebooting the system - shutdown problem similar to Alpha 3, but with an additional screen saying "An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C001548A in VXD ---. This was called from 0028:C005A22F in VXD ---."
  6. Simplified Chinese Win98SE + KernelEx 4.0 Final + rpXalpha3 - No corrupted Start button so far - Resource leak in Outlook Express 6 once. Unsure if it was related to Alpha 3 - "White Screen Of Death" when shutdown. Pressed any key changed the screen to "this application cannot be run in a window ...". Pressed any key two more times reboot the system
  7. "White Screen Of Death" upon shutdown - "Windows: A fatal exception 0D has occurred at 0167:BFF72911" It is reproducible. Disappeared after Heap Extender is disabled
  8. Alpha 2 runs on my Chinese Win98SE. Flash 10 is okay. No crash with IE. However after closing IE the Start button is corrupted. The bottom icons of "Wallpapers" in RPConfig disappeared. They re-appeared after closing and re-opening RPConfig RPConfig shows version 9.1.1, but "Use ClearType" and "Disable GDI resource salvation" are still there. There is no option for "GDI Heap Extender". Is this normal?
  9. Confirm Alpha 1 loaded in Simplified and Traditional Chinese Win98SE (with KernelEX 4.0 Final). Opera resource usage was improved. There were crashes with IE
  10. Should not be a DBCS problem. KernelEX 4.0 Final runs fine on both Simplified and Traditional Chinese Win98SE
  11. I just cannot believe my eyes ... - Lingoes runs now (need to copy mfc42u.dll from somewhere) - SketchUp 7 is usable and can save now. Toolbar is corrupted but functional. Hope this will be fixed in future KernelEx release Xeno86 & Tihiy, you guys are great!
  12. however i'm highly unsure if it will work on DBCS systems. Okay, I shall try when it comes out ...
  13. Come on, Tihiy ... We are all waiting for this ...
  14. I am interested in the "clock + resource meter" on your taskbar. What is that program called? Thank you
  15. That's nice suggestion. Maybe just an exclamation (!) icon with tooltip text of "System appears unstable". Click it to display the Kernel Task Manager. Right click to display a shortcut menu with options to "Close all applications", "Reboot" and "Shutdown" Also nice, but i don't imagine a good mockup. Please see my mockup:
  16. Only yesterday I realized that the Kernel Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) would warn about system stability. This is a nice feature. It said something like "Your system appears unstable. Please shutdown ...". As the "USER/GDI/SYS/RAM resource percentage lamps" did not turn red, I omitted the warning and continued using the computer. After a while, resource problem really appeared (various parts of explorer turned white). So I shutdowned the computer immediately before losing my work I suggest RP9 to give such warning by displaying an icon at the system tray. Now we can only see the warning when pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del, but normally we would not always press Ctrl-Alt-Del unless we see the system is going to have problems Also a suggestion for the Kernel Task Manager: Is it possible to combine the "task list" and "uptime / resource percentage lamps" into same page? (i.e. everything in 1 page) I usually need to view all these information. It is inconvenient to switch between two pages Thank you EDIT: I saw the "Your system appears unstable ..." warning again today after using Opera for a short while. I clicked the "Shutdown" button in the Kernel Task Manager as instructed (not the Shutdown in Start menu) and it magically closed all opened applications in a wink! I was not aware of this feature before. It is great!!!
  17. You can request latest 98 official GDI from here: http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotf...px?kbnum=289635
  18. IE - based ones, for sure. Unlikely for others. Is there browsing scenario which eats a lot of USER (except opening lots and lots of pages)? Firefox3 crashed easily after browsing alibaba.com for a while Shall try IE when your new technology is launched, though I still prefer to use non-IE based browser
  19. Most GUI programs. How about web browsers?
  20. Is it the "long-secret feature" you mentioned in the RP9 thread? Will it benefit all programs or just certain kind of programs?
  21. Sorry to advise that I cannot check it at the moment. I have installed Ubuntu to the eeepc as I urgently need it to work properly for my coming trips. I shall play with Win98 again after the trips - maybe around July Thank you for your help
  22. Yes, it added "C:\WINDOWS\net start" to AUTOEXEC.BAT, but networking did not work
  23. This fix works for me! Thank you very much Drugwash! Believe the value was changed to 16 after the system crash
  24. Rodger, thank you for your suggestion. However I do not use Powerdesk, so this solution does not work for me Now I use 16-bit icons to avoid the black shadows
  25. No idea... Maybe file got deleted? Try custom RP install and check 32-bit icons set. Tried but did not work. Uninstalled and reinstalled RP9 and did not work too. The 32-bit icons still have "black shadows"
