  1. Somebody at MS ( or the event organizer ) has a sense of humour. Made me laugh. A bit of levity is needed amidst the attempt to shove this awful thing on the unsuspecting public.
  2. Some interesting reactions to Frank Shaws post Microsoft's counter-attack against Windows 8 coverage makes it 'look weak'
  3. One is offering a product a lot of people want to buy. That could be the biggest difference. This from manu made me laugh
  4. Verb Form a cluster; congregate: "the children clustered around her skirts". Or maybe: http://www.clusterbombs.org.uk/
  5. I laughed out loud at the cartoon. Thanks. Just as the author mentions, its amazing how many Dilbert cartoons accurately describe Windows 8 and/or Metro. This one I used way back in this thread ( when Sinofsky and Harris justifying their destruction of Windows by citing bogus telemetry ) ... EDIT: spacing
  6. There doesn't seem to be much good news for MS at the moment. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-57573429-71/samsung-exec-surface-isnt-selling-windows-8-no-improvement/?part=rss&subj=news&tag=title
  7. I know someone who has one of those. He reckons it is remarkably good considering. Not sure how many will pitch in that low, but I can't fathom why MS didn't try and get a decent presence in the $200--300 range. Perhaps it wouldn't make much difference. The buyers don't seem to have an interest in win 8 - almost irrespective of price. .
  8. Interesting piece of spin there. You will notice he says - The clear implication that using Google search is a bad habit. Tut Tut MrWeicz ....
  9. .Actually , the prediction was right. There are plenty of copies of 8 at the promo price or less still available - even now - on Amazon UK and elsewhere. Clearly they still can't shift it even at that price. Windows 8 Pro, Upgrade Edition [upgrade from Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7] (PC): Amazon.co.uk: Software Now MS UK has dropped their Pro price back to the promo price again. To be fair - it is just above the promo price ( 4.99 more including media ). I expect that is because they do not want to undercut the poor retailers who are stiil trying to shift the inventory they already bought . Windows 8 Pro price slashed to £45 | News | PC Pro Yeah, I think that a lot of people underestimated the degree of bull-headed "see no evil, hear no evil" incompetence that a certain newly-styled "devices and services" company has displayed with respect to Windows 8. More and more in the tech press seem to be coming around. Read (or listen to) this exchange between host Leo Laporte (founder of This Week in Tech) and security specialist Steve Gibson in a recent "Security Now!" podcast. It starts at about 44:15: The specific prediction didn't come true, but Leo's larger point about Win8 sales is still bearing out. --JorgeA
  10. Seventh comment on the link you provided is quite amusing Thanks very much for the link! And of course for contributing... Maybe Google offered to give Microsoft the same kind of treatment, based on the latter's own privacy record as we've seen in this thread. --JorgeA
  11. Thank you Tripredacus. That is great news.
  12. Glad it's still going.
  13. I have only posted once or twice before on this forum. Very disappointed to see Windows 8 Deeper Impressions thread has been closed. It might appear to cover a range of topics, but it is in fact consistent with the concept of the thread. It is how creative minds work. Those from an artistic/creative background will be it tune with it. It is a popular thread - the most interesting one on this forum - possibly one of the most interesting anywhere on the internet. Might I suggest the thread continue - perhaps under a different title - e.g. Microsoft's Prospects and if necessary in a different section, e.g. General Discussion. It seems to me that might be a satisfactory solution. Many thanks
  14. Tihiy, Thanks. It makes a huge difference to my pe build. It might look like there haven't been many downloads - but your patchex is being used widely all over the world. Youe efforts are appreciated.
  15. Thanks for the reply. You mean that I can just put the "good" Vista DVD into my drive (I say "good" because it'll still be vLited, but it will now contain the needed componts), and then there'll be an option for repairing the OS? And if I choose repair, I'll keep all of my old programs and settings, just the missing files will be installed? Please verify this, because it sounds like a great help if it works! (I'll save many hours). Thanks Hi, Yes a "Repair Install " should work fine with a new vlited version, and should keep your files and settings. Do not select the Repair Option to do this, you use the Upgrade option and skip inserting the Product key - There is a step by step tutorial here : http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-re...tall-vista.html Hope this helps SIW2
  16. Hi, I have had both experiences . Cannot get microsoft update CAB files to integrate - I get a bluescreen saying I do not have enough disk space. Can someone explain what Nuhi meant by "integrate and reinstall " is that not what I was doing ? Also experienced the endless loop after reinstalling ( without having integrated the CAB files ) caused by the microsoft updates - could not fix this even in safe mode , so I reinstalled again. This time with another version - think it is removing QOS that causes the loop problem It would be great if we could integrate the CAB files . Does anyone know how to do this please? Thanks SIW2
