  1. Thanks for the guide SiMoNsAyS, I can't believe I didn't think about archiving the $OEM$ folders! but that's what makes this place so great, people each sharing their own ideas. I wondered if it were at all possible if you could make the storm wallpaper available? I've tried posting in the visual theme's thread, since the link provided by the author doesn't seem to work. Is there anyway you could do this? Thanks in advance, Cee-Kay
  2. After much searching using Google and browsing the link provided by rh-phoenix, which lists the question about creating a Custom installation in the FAQ, the link provided actually takes you to the exact same FAQ page, but just on another site! You'll find the page here Best of luck. Cee-Kay
  3. I was trying to change the icon of the installers I created myself. However I did misunderstand your previous post of applying the icon and compressing the actual module itself as opposed to compressing the exe.
  4. Now why would you assume that? Since you posted the contents of your config file, everything has gone fine as regards to making self-extracting installers. Trying a few applications, I found Resource Hacker to be the only program which didn't corrupt the actual installer when changing the icon. I actually found out about UPX by reading the help file! However since I hadn't used it before, I entered the command on it's own and tried different switches it supports. EDIT: Compressing the actual SFX module, reduced the archive file size to the same as yours.
  5. Since the site that I downloaded it from doesn't have a .msi available to install it with, I can only assume that someone else made it from the installer that they downloaded. The only way someone could do that would be to use a program such as WinINSTALL LE and using the discover wizard. That will record any changes made to the computer both before and after installation and creates a .msi file including the newly copied files and a .reg file recording any changes made to the registry. Aaron has the right idea for installing this, since a program this small isn't really worth the effort for creating a .msi installer for, in my opinion anyway.
  6. I've found using anything other than Resource Hacker simply corrupts the file, when you change the icon. I too compress it with UPX however I get... upx: jre5.exe: NotCompressibleException I guess that means that it's as small as it'll get (even after using the force compression switch).
  7. Although I found the AutoIT installer to work correctly before testing in either VirtualPC/VMWare or infact trying the CD itself and ironing out the problems later. I found that although installations like that may work on your development machine or the same machine that you install your unattended CD/DVD on like in my case, the installer doesn't always behave exactly as tested. Therefore, I'm going to install this application with the information that has already been provided, especially since this is the only installer that I can think of which I have to automate using AutoIT. I do however install the applications which have an .msi installer with /QB, at least until I get an almost perfect unattended CD. That maybe a bit of wishful thinking on my part, since newer versions of the applications I install come out fairly regularly (normally just after I've finalised a specific revision of my CD), but there’s no harm in trying I suppose.
  8. Works like a charm, thanks again for your help.
  9. Thanks both RyanVM and ran for your help. Below I have included a sample of the file I'm using. As you said you don't need a path for StartX to run since it automatically runs it from the extracted path... ;!@Install@!UTF-8! RunProgram="StartX.exe msiexec" ;!@InstallEnd@! As expected the Installer runs Msiexec no problem, however as soon as I add the filename of the .msi file to install I get a "Failed in call to CreateProcess, Error: 193" error message. Is this because I need to provide a path to the .msi file? EDIT: I found something else in the 7zip help file... Therefore I changed the file to read... ;!@Install@!UTF-8! RunProgram="StartX.exe msiexec /i %%T\JRE5.msi <switches>" ;!@InstallEnd@! But I get an error message except it says Error: 2 instead. Any ideas?
  10. Hey RyanVM, I'm sure I'm not the only one when I say thanks for taking the time and effort for create these 'switchless' packs. Since I am interested in creating some of my own for my unattended CD -- I wondered if you could give me some guidance... With the use of the 7zip help file, I've created a SFX installer using the appropriate SFX module, config file and 7zip archive. However, I am unable to launch Msiexec let alone pass the name of the .msi file with its switches to it. This led to me using the StartX program which you have included in your switchless archive. Using that I'm able to launch Msiexec no problem, but I'm unsure how to tell it the path to my extracted .msi file since it randomly changes each time the archive is extracted. Hopefully you understand where I'm coming from and no doubt your advice will not only benefit me, but also other members here on these forums. Thanks in advance, Cee-Kay
  11. Seems I was too late in downloading the wallpaper to accompany your Storm theme, which by the way is probably one of the first Visual Themes I've ever used -- I know it sounds stupid, but I've rarely seen a Visual Theme worth the effort applying before. Is there an alternative address where I can grab the wallpaper? Thanks in advance. Cee-Kay
  12. Thanks SiMoNsAyS for that tip. Can you believe I've never noticed that option.
  13. DVDs could hold '100 times more' Future DVDs could hold 100 times more information than current discs. Imperial College London researchers in the UK are developing a new way of storing data that could lead to discs capable of holding 1,000 gigabytes. It means that every episode of The Simpsons could fit on a disc the size of a normal DVD. Lecturer Dr Peter Torok revealed the technique called Multiplexed Optical Data Storage (Mods) at the Asia-Pacific Data Storage Conference 2004 in Taiwan. 472 hours of film DVDs are one of the most successful consumer products in history. Most DVDs have two layers and can hold up to 8.5GB. Work is already well advanced on the next generation. One technology, HD-DVD (High Definition DVD), can hold up to 30GB, while a rival format called Blu-ray offers 50GB of storage. The technique developed by the Imperial College team could offer much more on a disc. The researchers believe their technique could be used to create a disc with four layers, each with 250GBs - the equivalent of 118 hours of video per layer. A four-layer DVD could hold one terabyte (1,000Gbs) of data, enough for 472 hours of film, or every episode of The Simpsons ever made... Read the whole story here
  14. I'd really appreciate it, if anyone had a spare invite left that I could have.
  15. Is it safe to look now... lol Weird and funny at the same time, if that makes any sense.
  16. Just a suggestion holzer, but have you tried mounting the image of your Unattended DVD using something like Alcohol, Daemon Tools etc... Then selecting CD > 'Use physical drive X:' within VirtualPC. Maybe this will solve your problem.
  17. Great release as always Alanoll! I simply used my old Winamp.ini that I created from use with your Winamp 5.0.4 release. Seems to work no problem.
  18. If SAV isn't already installed then REMOVE=... will not work, simply leave that option out and the NotesSnapin won't get installed. In order to install LiveUpdate silently, install using 'Lusetup.exe /Q' instead, that should work for you, if not consider using the installer I made -- it's up to you.
  19. Still getting the same error, huh? That's strange as I totally uninstalled LU and SAV using Add/Remove Programs, making sure the relevant directories etc were deleted and tried the first revision of my installer silently, and I did get the error you reported. I then completely removed LU and SAV again and ran my updated version of the installer and the problem didn't occur at all! Using the contents of the two below files, I checked that both LiveUpdate v2.5 and SAV were infact installed sucessfully: Install log - log.txt (created using the switch '/L*V log.txt') MSI (s) (90:04) [19:13:52:669]: Product: Symantec AntiVirus -- Installation operation completed successfully. '.\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\LuResult.txt' - LiveUpdate log file LiveUpdate has been successfully installed on your machine. Therefore, may I suggest that everyone who is experiencing this problem with my modified installer, to do the same as I have done, by completely uninstalling both SAV then LU (rebooting after each uninstall) and trying/retrying my latest revision preferably with logging enabled. If problems still occur, then I will investigate further. Thanks for your help! By the way, extracting the contents of the i32 version of the virus definitions into a temp directory as previously mentioned and overwriting the contents of the files already there seems to update the definitions correctly -- this is confirmed by running LU several times and the program not downloading any updates.
  20. Sorry about that drthawhizkid, I hoped bugs wouldn't appear so quickly, nevertheless I'll start looking at what's causing this problem.UPDATE: Hopefully, I've fixed this bug, please download the latest version at the top of this page. Once this bug has been reported as solved, I will update the change log accordingly. Sure thing, you can download the i32 version here
  21. Fortunately, I can get the i32 version to work However, even when I try to double-click on the x86 version a very quick dialogue box comes up (I've got a screenshot somewhere) which says Windows cannot run 16-bit apps. Now I know for certain that I've never had this problem before, so I'm pretty confident that it's SP2 that's at fault.
  22. That's just made my day, very funny! She wasn't blonde by the way, was she?
  23. Ok, I've uploaded the file, which is ready to be downloaded. Please be gentle in reporting bugs. You can download the installer from here. Simply double click the SFX archive to extract the MSI installer to the current directory... well you know the rest. NOTE: This installer is intended for use with the updated client files, version 9.0.0.1400 only, otherwise problems will occur when you try and install using an unpatched version of SAV. (See prathapml's post on the first page for patching instructions). Installer Change log: 1.0a : Initial Release 1.0b : Changed to correct bug reported by drthawhizkid, please download the latest version. Bug Reports: "There was a problem trying to register with Live Update. Live Update will not be available for this product" [Fixed]. Updates: I been having some problems extracting the lastest definitions from the x86 updates, as far as I can tell this is only a problem on Windows XP SP2. If the x86 version doesn't work for you either, download the i32 version from here. Extracting the contents from the i32 version, to replace the older definitions included with the Client works fine, without LiveUpdate downloading them again.
  24. @Mazin Close enough mate, however I have modifyied the MSI installer so no renaming is required! Just exract and go. I've not had enough time to finish writing a guide to this yet, but using my new installer should be pretty straightforward. Give me 10 mins and ill upload it to my web space and then I'll concentrate on finishing my guide.
  25. Couldn't put it better myself. That's if you don't mind Alanoll?
