  1. You can't do that - as benifin already said, there are still some distinct differences between Vista SP1 and Win2008.
  2. I kinda agree, but there is actually something I want / need to add to make Server 2008 behave as a proper Workstation, things like .NET Framework as many of my applications requires FrameWork to run. .net Framework 2.0 is already installed on Windows 2008 without having to add anything. If you need .net 3.5, simply download it from MS and install it - worked fine for me, again without having to add anything. Thus, you really don't need "Add features" for .net (regardless of version).
  3. I didn't have any problem installing Windows 2008 x64 w/ 4GB installed. That's just one more thing where Windows 2008 is better than Vista SP1
  4. I just tried to disable the Media Scheduler in my current Win2008 install, and it wanted to shutdown the Audio service as well when I tried - which obviously is not wanted Any way to stop the Media Scheduler and keep the Audio service running? Yes, fully agree there. Other than Vista, Win2008 actually seems usable. Personally, I don't care for this useless Aero garbage which just eats resources aplenty for nothing. I'm still mad at MS for replacing XP theming with this worthless Aero junk If I want transparency, I'll use Glass2k - which is far better than Aero, as it can make the whole window transparent, not only the titlebar. "Add features" working or not doesn't bother me, as there's nothing I would want to add back in... adding the junk back in would kinda undermine using Win2008 in the first place
  5. I like Instant Profit, so I'll have to try it out myself B)
  6. vLite can do it, but you'll have to run it from an already installed Win2008. Also, integrating a language pack with vLite takes very long.

    My Findings

My suggestion: Proper Component Cache (winsxs) removal without breaking hotfix compatibility. That would really be great!
  8. Then I don't know what the hell vLite is removing, because .net only uses 182MB on my Windows 2008 x64: Also, the .net installer is only 46MB (or 22MB for x86) - it should be clear that this can't be blown up to the epic proportions of 1GB
  9. Of course it's bs. It's not meant to hinder malware and such (anyone so naive to believe that?), but rather it's to hamper the use of filesharing apps.
  10. Ati Catalyst uses .net Framework. You won't be able to change any settings without it. 3rd party tools can only change rudimentary settings.
  11. No, it's not Why do you keep saying this nonsense? As I've said already, the hard drive space for .net x64 after installation is 153MB for .net 2.0 - and for .net 3.5, it's 238 MB (which includes .net 2.0 and 3.0 runtimes as well). Space used for the x86 version is about half of that. Again, that's not even remotely close to the 1GB you claim
  12. have you installed the new iso yet? Yes, and it works fine so far B) msfnへようこそnieaさん You can compare your settings with mine, which work fine for me - perhaps that helps you to find out what is wrong: http://www.msfn.org/board/Win-server-2008-...041#entry761041
  13. No, not even remotely close The .net folder on my Win2008 x64 installation is 154 MB (162,008,059 bytes). The .net 2.0 redistributable download is only 22.4MB (x86) or 45.2MB (x64). How did you come up with this ludicrous 1GB?
  14. My guess would be that the kernel patch is at fault.
  15. I ran vLite on Windows 2008 x64 and it worked without any problems.
  16. Yes, I did rebuild it as an "Server Standard" only iso - worked without any problems.
  17. I'll be trying out my own config (Windows 2008 Server Standard x64) today. If it's successful, I'll post the results here. edit: Tried it out and "Add Features" looks ok B) iso is 1.8gb (including Italian language pack). 18. No way! Ok, .net isn't all that great, but Java is the most retarded garbage ever
  19. That didn't work either. I've d/led a the iso in a different language now (just lucky that I know German as well), perhaps the English iso is flawed for whatever reason. I tried it out right after burning it, and it installed without a hitch. Hurra Deutschland! Once installed, I tried out vLite for integrating the Italian language pack, and there it finally worked, even if it took quite some time... No loss, as I don't need English anyway.
  20. Since vLite doesn't work properly on XP 64, I wanted to install an unmodified Windows 2008 x64 (english) and run it from there. I took the dvd I burned from the iso image that I downloaded right from MS, booted from it and started setup. It seemed to work ok - until the first reboot. When I selected Windows 2008 from the Boot Manager, I instantly got an error message claiming that the following file was defect or missing: \Windows\system32\drivers\atapi.sys I booted into XP64 and looked it up, and the file was there. Quite a strange error - all I did was download the iso image and burn it to a dvd, and there it claims one of the files is defective. I've done the following already: - burned another dvd from the downloaded iso image, but got exactly the same error. - re-formatted the partition (long format) and did a full check of the partition, including surface test - no errors found. After that, I tried installing it again from the new dvd, but still got exactly the same error. Seems the image I downloaded from MS is faulty... any other idea?
  21. Looks like they did indeed apply some improvements to Windows 2008, so it's not just Vista+SP1.
  22. I see... looks like you need Vista to do it then.
  23. Language pack integration does not work at all on XP64. As soon as it gets to the part where it is about to start with the integration, it always crashes: "vLite needs to close." I've then done a clean install of a 100% unmodified XP64 on a new partition and tried there (only .net installed), but it still always crashes at the same position It seems vLite doesn't like XP64... btw, Vista Update Integrator has exactly the same problem, always crashing there as well.
  24. As I said, it always crashed when it was about to integrate the language pack, and it even crashed on a freshly installed Windows - so something is serously wrong with vLite. Perhaps it just doesn't like XP. What OS did you use when you integrated the language pack?
  25. Can you use this "Vista Tool" to integrate language packs? Neither Vista Update Integrator nor vLite works at all there, and the MS documentation is very shoddy there.
