  1. quinton69, you give almost no information to go on to help you. Some comments: you cannot run nLite under Vista to create an XP ISO if you are integrating an SP and it may not work even if not. With an nLited ISO, you cannot use F6 to load text mode drivers unless you turn off OEM Preinstall in Unattended section. Please see the Help next to the option (? in circle). If you want help with identifying drivers, please post a link to where you are DLing them. You can correct the thread title by editing your first post. Now my standard admonition - please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John. Enjoy, John.

    driver.cab error

gneville, what do you mean? As far as I know there is only one SP3 for XP available at the MS Download Center. Enjoy, John.
  3. tazosmr, I suspect you have run nLite against the same source more then once. Here is my standard inculcation. Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Note the part about about attaching (use Browse... and UPLOAD buttons) your Last Session. It would be nice if you would edit your post, delete the pasted Last Session and attach it. Enjoy, John.
  4. masterpointer, why have you posted two replies with only the quote from one of my replies? Enjoy, John.
  5. Bdevil, no Last Session.ini (attached - not pasted) and little chance for help. Enjoy, John.

    driver.cab error

gneville, a quick look shows you are running nLite under Vista to create an XP ISO. This will not work for integrating an SP (for sure) and may not work overall. Please either run under an XP system or install XP on a virtual machine and run nLite there. Enjoy, John.
  7. Ron475, that says nLite has been run against the source before. This can lead to unpredictable results and I recommend that you start over with a fresh copy of your CD folders/files. Please see my first reply again. Enjoy, John.
  8. b-rob, mine is for XP x64 and would not work for you. I assumed you knew about AddOns since you had so many. Try this one. Please read the particulars about updates it contains so you don't add them also. Enjoy, John.
  9. b-rob, normaliz.dll is part of IE7/8, I think. If you do not have either installed, then that is your problem. I searched my original CDs (SP1 and SP2 XP x64) and there was no normaliz.dll, but my nLited folder does have it and I have included an IE8 AddOn. You are probably missing IE8. Include the proper AddOn for IE8 (direct integration does not work for IE8 or WMP11) and see if it will install. Be sure to place the IE8 AddOn above the updates. If you are going to leave the update pack, do some research and see what it contains. IE7/8 are not included in any SP. Please let us know how you make out. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Indeed, normaliz.dll is contained in my IE8 AddOn.
  10. b-rob, have you searched your original CD folder for normaliz.dll, and confirmed it is there? It may be named normaliz.dl_. Does your update pack contain IE8? If not, you are adding updates to IE8 and it is not installed. I see you have updates to WMP11 but no installation of WMP11. Do you have booogy's WMP11 Slipstreamer installed on your machine? My suggestion to see if you can get off the ground is to remove everything from your hot fix section, build an ISO and see if it will install. I hope you are using a virtual system (e.g. VirtualPC, VIrtualBox and VMware Server - all free) for testing. Enjoy, John.

    nLite freezes!

medi, I suspect you copied your CD to the root directory (C:\) and not to a folder. This causes nLite to scan your entire HDD, takes a long time and yields huge byte counts. Copy your CD to a new empty folder and point nLite to that folder. Enjoy, John.
  12. Selena, Step 3 is fine at any time, but your are inviting grief with steps 1 and 2. There is no need to do it that way and can only lead to problems now or later. Enjoy, John.
  13. AlexDahNoob, again, please edit your first post and change the title. What version of nLite are you running and where did you get it? If you did not get it from the nLite web site, then go there and DL another copy. Check the MD5 hash, remove nLite using Add/Remove, then install the new one. It does take some time for nLite to scan your source, so please wait before killing it. Does it hang on the very first screen, second, etc? Let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
  14. AlexDahNoob, weird! What is this? I have never heard of it. When nLite freezes at the get go, it usually means you do not have .Net installed or not installed properly. How did you create a CD if nLite freezes? I don't know what you mean by "disable/reeenable" SATA drivers - please explain. Also, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. You should also change your topic title to something more descriptive of your problems. Enjoy, John.
  15. I looked for an encrypt option in nLite Unattended and found none. I was wrong. My PW shows up in clear text in the Registry as -X- pointed out. I have found no way to keep my key from showing up there or on the installation CD. The command to set the key is in the nLite.inf (NLITE.IN_) file in the ISO. The only thing I can think of is to change the PW after installation. Perhaps I could delete the command in the nLite.inf file before the ISO is cut. Setting the EncryptedAdminPassword="No" to "Yes" in the Winnt.sif file causes Setup to stop and ask for the Administer PW. It does not effect the account I defined. I hope someone has some ideas. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Well, I tried deleting the command to set the Registry key from nLite.inf and during the install, on the last boot, I was prompted for my PW. After this, installation completed, but when I restarted, just before the Login screen, I got a message to enter my PW, but it did not pause for me to do it. It went to the Login screen and hung with "Windows is starting..." I have a modified Login screen and perhaps this is part of the problem, but deleting the command that sets the key is not the solution. EDIT2: I deleted the DefaultPassword key in my VM and it trashed my Auto Login. It now asks for my PW. Funny, this key does not exist in my real machine and Auto Login works. I used control userpasswords2, to setup my Auto Login in my host.
  16. aidzan, I use VMware Server to test my ISOs and it uses a virtual connection between the host and VM. I am able to share folders between the two machines with no problems. Please post a screen shot of your error and, attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
  17. bbolu, if your original CD contains SP3, you are go to go there, but there is no way I know of to use SPs, updates, etc from a running system. Enjoy, John.

    XP ,IE6 ,IE8

icy, my advice is simple. DO NOT run nLite against a source that has had nLite run against it before! Enjoy, John.
  19. Ron475, you don't 'have' to remove anything. NLite allows you to reduce the size of your install package (and decrease the install time), but there is no requirement to do so. You as a home user are a client to all the servers you connect to and use. I agree with you that Windows Messenger is probably a good thing to remove and I do remove it. If you have a specific problem, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

    Xp freezes on boot

Filip0, I run 512 MB on my VMware VM and have no problem. You can probably run with 256 MB. What is the size of the hard drive partition you are installing on? I am using 6 GB. Enjoy, John.
  21. 5eraph, works great. Thanks, John.

    Xp freezes on boot

Filip0, I am sorry, I cannot answer your question about changing languages or using your key on an English one. If you have an English version, give it a try and see if it will accept your key. NLite's Unattended section allows you to specify the language (see attached). Give it a try on your VPC. The only suggestion I have on getting a copy of Widows, is to call Microsoft and tell them of your dilemma and asked what your options are. I assume you have exhausted Google, etc searching for an answer. Enjoy, John.
  23. You posters want help, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini files and follow the other advice in by initial reply. Enjoy, John.

    nLite problem

gaelon, this is simply compressing the file (done with makecab) and should make no difference. I'm looking again. Enjoy, John.EDIT: I just took the original FONT.INF file and removed the same lines that nLite removed and inserted the "modified by nLite" stuff at the bottom and they (this and nLite's file) compared exactly. They are the same file. NLite has simply stripped out the blank lines and lines with a semi-colon ( ; ). This includes the line as follows: DefaultDestDir = 20 ; fonts dirwas replaced by DefaultDestDir = 20I don't know what the effects of removing the "; fonts dir" has, if any. EDIT again: gaelon, I suggest you do the same with the INTL.INF file and see if they compare.
  25. 5eraph, you mention on page one that QFECheck was used to verify updates. I have DLed (Windows DL Center) both the x86 and x64 versions and had no luck. The x64 version (really IA64) says it is not compatible with my OS (makes sense) and the x86 version says it cannot find Hal.dll if I execute the DLed file, and "SP2 but no updates" if I execute QFECheck.exe inside. Do you have a source of one that works on XP x64? Thanks, John.
