  1. well most of the time if the power supply is bad the computer (fans, harddrives, cd-roms etc.) wont make any movement / noise.

if you can hear the computer start up, but no display, try removing the modem card if he has one. if that doesnt work try removing any other pci cards that might be installed (except if he runs a video card).

if there is still no luck after that, i would guess ram.

but as far as a computer running with a bad power supply.... only a power supply tester can find out. you can normally pick one up at a local computer shop (not a large retail such as best buy or circuit city from what i know) for about 10 bucks.

    hope that helps

  2. thanks crahak

i was just wondering because i had a HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop that came with vista ultimate and i tried back in december to downgrade it to xp pro.. but couldnt find the drivers.

so i tried again today and with no problem i found a laptop labeled CTO that was the same model etc. with xp drivers that i needed so i downloaded them and worked like a charm :D

so basically they started making or did for awhile make the same model laptops with xp? because the only place i could find the drivers were the DV9000 CTO Xp drivers :D

    thanks again crahak

  3. It's a license in-use but not paid for, therefore it's "lost revenue".

yea i'd have to agree with that statement. if you are using something, but didnt pay for it then basically its stealing a service.

Windows 7 to include WinFS (Windows Future Storage)

    WinFS Definition

TarryBlogging have featured an excerpt from an interview on Windows 7 that seems to indicate that Windows 7 will include some form of the “Hypervisor” Windows Virtualisation technologies that will ship shortly after Windows Server.

The interview also claims that Windows 7 might include the Windows Future Storage (WinFS) technology.

Windows 7 releasing around the time touch screen LCD's are "affordable" of general home usage. Windows 7 to

    take advantage of this?

The demonstration of the Windows 7 multi-touch feature was interesting but I think most users have asked themselves how likely it would be that they would be having a multi-touch LCD monitor in their homes at the time Windows 7 is released to the public. If you currently look at hardware retailers you notice that touchscreen monitors are rare and expensive. Newegg for instance lists 72 touchscreen monitors with a price range of $200 to $2000 of which one has a size greater 20″, sixteen a size between 18″ - 19″ and the other 55 a size of 17″ or less.

To answer the question. Yes they will be ready and affordable at the time Windows 7 will be released. Would you pay an additional 20% to get a touchscreen LCD monitor ?

Better gaming, less resources used to run? We'll see?

The ability to be lower power, take less memory, be more efficient, and have lots more connections up to the mobile phone, so those scenarios connect up well to make it a great platform for the best gaming that can be done, to connect up to the thing being done out on the Internet, so that, for example, if you have two personal computers, that your files automatically are synchronized between them, and so you don’t have a lot of work to move that data back and forth.

  5. lol i work at a used computer store and dealing with WinME weither it be setting up a dial-up connection, explaining why Time Warner highspeed wont work with their computer, software compatibility... list goes on...

one nice little saying i read is

. . . you might feel that the term Millennium refers to the length of time it will take to fix the glitches.
  6. yea i actually found that link to the external site a few mins ago...

hacking one open is a pain btw but finding the parts are sorta tuff too lol. everywhere you look wants you to buy in bulk or send them a email with what you need and they will get back to you lol. but for the mean time i poped open an IBM Thinkpad 600 battery, has 6 cells with part# CGR18650HM . cant find anywhere online that sells them (or mabe not the right keywords in google :P )

  7. from what i know most laptop batteries are made of Lithium Ion (LIon), and Nickel Metal Hydride.

but i just thought i would ask has anyone herd or know of a process of repairing broken laptop batteries? i read that there "in some cases" could have a series of charges and discharges (and sometimes shaking) to help try and bring them back to life... but just wondering if anyone knows more about this? Thanks!!

  8. Actually, it should only come in x64! I hope so at least.

microsoft probally released vista with exspectations of vista moving the world into the 64bit era :D releasing 64x and 86x OS's... if you go to best buy now days (or at least around here) anything over $500 has 64x vista.

microsoft planned this movement :P haha

but yea i do agree with moving onto the 64bit OS's... for the several reasons you stated above crahank and + times change and you have to grasp reality and move foward

  9. lol quick fix (or possibly not but worth the try)

Start>type "msconfig then hit enter> services> hide all microsoft> then disable

    msconfig>startup>disable all

would turn off your virus protection + everything else but worth a try and see what task manager looks like then?

    +++++++

DAP.exe (Download Accelerator Plus) just from my experience i havent had too good of luck with that. try a google search on ur free time

  10. Not only Coca Cola, same as Querétaro government... they had used pirated MS Office, which has been replaced with OpenOffice

haha amazing! alot of people belive that once you get an update via Windows Update with a vlk and it works that you can always keep getting them.... and from what i've gathered thats not so true.

but the Querétaro Goverment.. i mean wtf lol :P :P :P

  11. hmm sounds like an aggravating situation...

try a serial mouse and see where that gets you (if you have one or can grab one)

if not try a windows repair if it worked and then quit.

did it just stop working or is this a new machine and it hasnt worked from the beginning?
