Hi sorry for the delay, here is the config file. I only added DX9 addon plus the rest are Microsoft hotfixes. These ones are in the nLite list but Windows Update still offered them to me when I installed: KB890046 KB905474 KB920213 KB932168 KB933729 KB939653 I did not add any WMP updates (yet) but these ones above I definitely added to nLite. XP installation hangs with 9 min left: "Saving settings"
heffalump replied to kingharrie's topic in nLite
Ok the version you PM'd is working. I got the WMP10 in German language lol not English but that is probably correct because it is German version on the website (not problem of nLite) I wonder why it installed as English in 1.3.5? Well anyway no problem I can look for an English version of WMP10 addon instead. Thanks for fixing this -

By the way I used Sereby's DX9.0c addon from the same site above so if you want to have exact same setup as me then use those two addons. The rest is all hotfixes from Microsoft. Good luck! -
I think it was the Windows 2000 setup which has a neat setup screen where it asks what user account you want to create and if you want to use ctrl/alt/delete or something; also if it should always log in with that account/password or if you should type it? How can I get that minisetup but have parts like regional settings, network, cd key etc. skipped (and filled in correctly) I tried an answerfile and the minisetup doesn't come up at all just the regular full setup? Thanks!

I put these updates in nLite (1.4) and after test install the Windows Update still said I needed to download them. Is there some problem? KB939653 KB933729 KB890046 KB932168 KB932168 I think maybe KB892130 as well and one more. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, an update from me. I tried this time without the WMP10 addon and it didn't freeze in 1.4 I don't know why the same addon works in 1.3.5 but not for me in 1.4 Here is the link to the actual addon. It's a German site but the WMP addon installs fine to English using 1.3.5 http://www.sereby.org/index.php?cat=xu_addons#WMP10 -

Hi, this is interesting - ok I loaded my 1.3.5 config file so it should be the same (I used 1.4 nLite) and this time it hangs in 1.4 - so it should be exact same config. So it worked for 1.3.5 but not 1.4 (clean source both times!) I will try your suggestion later, it is getting late for me now LAST_SESSION1.4NEW.INI -

What could be going on here? I tried same/very similar setup from version 1.4 and version 1.3.5 the 1.4 build it stops at Saving Settings again. But when I tried with 1.3.5 it moved along ok! I've attached both logs. Both times I used clean XP SP2 CD (removed couple unused folders e.g. LANG and the upgrade ones) LAST_SESSION1.3.5.INI LAST_SESSION1.4.INI -
Does anyone know or have an addon for WMP10 including updates/patches, but does not have Media Connect? I.e. only WMP10 + WMP 10 updates. I found a couple but they have MC+ MC updates too which I don't want. Thanks!

Is there some way to log/track down a freeze in XP?
heffalump replied to heffalump's topic in Windows XP
Thanks very much for the analysis cluberti! That is strange, I have Daemon Tools installed but disabled the autorun/system tray thing and haven't even used the program much. I'm not sure but that drive might be Daemon's virtual drive. I'll uninstall it and hopefully that will fix it! Thanks for the comments in the debug, it is very helpful -
Is there some way to log/track down a freeze in XP?
heffalump replied to heffalump's topic in Windows XP
It's uploaded after I compressed it. I had to retry several times due to the computer freezing lol Well fingers crossed cluberti can work some magic -
I think one reason people like me (noob that I am) use tools like HFSLIP/nLite is because it isn't obvious how to slipstream/set up your own installations and some things are not so easy to understand. For example not all hotfixes work or integrate the same way. Then what happens if you want to do something like HFSLIP/nLite so the actual hotfix .exe isn't copied/used but the files are directly integrated to the CD? What about if you want to remove certain things from installing altogether? Which inf/files do what? What if you want to integrate things like directx or WMP? Older operating systems like Win2k can only have WMP6/IE6 - how to integrate IE.. etc... All sorts of questions like that which, while easily solved using (for example) nLite make it no easier to understand what is going on under the hood. What are the various inf/cmd/other installer files, when are they used, how? Questions questions I'd personally like to be able to understand the process under the hood and not use programs like nLite but it is proving difficult, for reasons mentioned above.

Yes I'ld like to remove it from an unattended install. So far the best I can come up with is using a registry file and script to automatically unbind netbios and disable the helper service. This plugs the open ports and everything I need working still works fine but if there is some way to just remove the stuff without it even installing that would be cool. Thanks for the clue!

I'll try the runonceex.cmd route as that seems quickest one. If that fails self extracting file it is then Thanks for the tips!

Is there some way to log/track down a freeze in XP?
heffalump replied to heffalump's topic in Windows XP
Hi there I am uploading it now though it might take a while because it is a big file and I'm on ADSL (768 kbps up) I did a threads 865053f0 because that one is listed a lot and it is saying image: gene6 ftp which is one I updated recently. I've tried uninstalling that for now via Total Uninstall and hope the freezes go away. The other threads seem to have image: system so I've no clue what those might be. Assuming I'm doing the right thing to begin with hehe Thanks very much for the help! Add: just noticed !Thread 87069720 is Outpost firewall which I have not updated yet and is same engine/core version as I've used for months now, minus the adware/spyware updates. Update: ok I totally uninstalled Gene6 but the freeze still happens Here is updated locks 0: kd> !locks **** DUMP OF ALL RESOURCE OBJECTS **** KD: Scanning for held locks............................................................................................... .................................................................................................... . ......................................... Is there some way to log/track down a freeze in XP?

Hi sorry for the delay in replying. I rolled back to a previous backup and forgot to reinstall the debugger but I am still getting the lockups as described. I don't think it is the video drivers because I used drivercleaner and reinstalled the old set I was using before which worked fine for many months now. The freeze also happened before I reinstalled (but after I removed them!) Now I have a dump file and tried loading it into the debugger. This is locks output. I found if you don't have a good enough firewall, NOD32 v3.x actually fails Leak Test. This is because it now uses a proxy to route traffic through which can let malicious programs through undetected if you don't have a suitable firewall! Some firewalls which detected Leak Test normally before now will fail the test because it sneaks through the NOD32 proxy. I only use NOD 2.7x because of this. Personally I don't like the direction they took with this proxy idea.

Can someone help with this problem? I'ld like to be able to totally remove netbios from even installing, without causing problems with DHCP or anything else. I know it is possible to unbind things manually having looked at the tutorial at grc.com but I'd like to be able to do all this automatically. Can it be done just with registry settings or something? I'd like to remove: netbios over tcp/ip, netbios helper, lmhosts lookup and anything else netbios related (services/hidden devices etc.) I tried nLite but got errors in the event log afterwards so figured I'd do this manually somehow. A little help?

This looks like a very nice thing to add I'm wondering if you have any ideas how close/far you are to an non-beta release? Do I need to do much configuring or is this simple plug and play? Does it play nice with games?

That is a good idea to compare the differences. I really want to be able to use the options nLite provided without actually running SOURCESS through it (because it doesn't work too well!). It is only for a handful of computers which won't be changing much after initial setup so I don't need all the remote tools. But if I can leave it in and set it to disabled to start with, that will do fine for some extra security. Thanks for the tips

Install setup problems for large disks/partitions with dual boot

Is it possible to do a query of an existing setupreg.hiv just to check the LBA key? Just want to read the value to see if it is in there... thanks! -
The text mode part of Win2k setup when you first put the CD in only allows a full format, whereas XP version lets you do a quick format. This full format can take a very long time with a big hard disk! Is there some way to modify the boot image/files inside it to enable quick format option (NTFS) I'd like not to use a DOS boot disk beforehand i.e. have a setup program just like XP's one.
