You'll want both UserSetup.cmd and cmdlines.txt in the .\xpcd\$OEM$\ directory.

For the last week or so, whenever I've played Battlefield 1942, I'd get an error that says "Can not open registry key", with only an 'Ok' option. The window title simply says 'Error'. For a few days, I thought this was simply a problem with Battlefield 1942, but then a few days later I tried loading Battlefield Vietnam. Low and behold, I got the same error when loading bfv. Again I thought this was just a problem with BF1942/BFV, as I assumed that they might share a registry key or something. Ok I thought, I'll just reinstall them when I get a chance. Well, earlier today when I tried loading up Final Fantasy XI, I again got the same error. FFXI has absolutely nothing in common with BF1942 or BFV, so that instantly ruled those out of being the problem. I then headed to event viewer, and found the following error: The description for Event ID ( 2 ) in Source ( SCardSvr ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: scredir.dll, The specified module could not be found. (0x8007007E). Before reading this, I was assuming the problem might be video drivers or even directx, but SCardSvr sounds related to my soundcard. Then again, I could be wrong. Can anyone help?

As far as I know, it should be alright. You'll need to create another account though, and even then I'm not certain that it'll rename the folder.

Use the attached program, and add the following to your cmdlines.txt: [COMMANDS] UserSetup.cmd Then, make a file called UserSetup.cmd, and add the following inside of that: renuser.exe Administrator kagaku You'll want to put renuser.exe in the $OEM$\$$\system32\ directory on your CD. You can use renuser.exe after you've installed Windows, but the directory in documents and settings will stay named 'Administrator'. If you rename it via cmdlines.txt, it'll change the dir name as well. Entirely not true. :| renuser.zip

I'm having the same problem with the read only checkbox. My files aren't read only, but the box is showing that 'some' of them are, when viewing properties on a directory. Even when viewing files on a network share with write access, it'll display the read only mark.

I've figured it out. String table 261 in shell32.dll, second string in the group. The string that controls the name of the control panel is right above it. Working perfectly now.

I've found VMWare to be considerably faster the VirtualPC, so I've been using that. I also prefer VMWare's interface, and operating system support.

I don't mind a little reshacking/hex editing if someone can point me to the right file. I'll give that a try though, thanks. Edit: No dice on the registry keys. Unless it requires a reboot or something, but I can't do that at the moment. Edit #2: While I'm at it, anyone know how to rename the control panel? :|

Does anyone know how I can rename the Desktop icon at the root of the tree in explorer? I'm talking about the icon circled in red in this screenshot: Trying to keep everything looking uniform.

I was always curious as to what the "H" stood for in HKEY... was it Hot Key? It actually stands for Handle Key. More of a programming term than anything else. It ACTUALLY stands for "Handle to registry KEY" But... you are close. I always assumed it meant Hive_Key. o.0
