  1. I write a small DOS utiilty for interfacing the ACPI tables. (here: ACPITOOL) In DOS it works OK but under Windows 98 it is not reliable. Sometimes it properly detect the ACPI interface 2.0 and everything is fine. But usualy it can't detect the ACPI. The debugging shows that the entrypoint RSDP (which is located in the first MB of RAM) is correct. It contains the pointer to the RSDT table which is mapped on the top of the installed RAM (to 512MB in my case). In DOS in this address is a valid RSDT table. But in Windows (in the same address) is often only some mess. Definitely a valid RSDT. What happens? Does it mean that Windows 98SE (or KernelEx or nVidia driver or ???) sometimes rewrite this memory area?
  2. 1) Why to upgrade? It is always nice to have a living program in last version. And it is pity to use IrfanView only for basic functions like JPEG or PNG imaging. It has many nice features, it can do some editing and much more. But many of these advanced functions are not in the main program but in the plugins. And the plugins strictly need the Irfan version what they were designed to. And in this 4.50 version is fixed the annoying bug when Irfan didn't understand very well the folders with non-english chars. 2) And what about the running IW 4.50 on Windows98? You must have installed Unicows and KernelEX. Then it works OK. So it is the reason why I think that even the issue with plugins could be somehow solved. But maybe it is rather question for people from KernelEx project...
  3. I love graphic viewer Irfanview. Up to now it worked without any limitations on Win98. But since 4.50 the Win98 is not more supported. However even the 4.50 works with KernelEx without problems. However there is a issue with addon plugins. They simply don't work. If I want to use any function which is implemented in some pluggin DLL it just writes a error message - something like "Unable to load \plugins\altlux.dll" Does some solution exist?
  4. Wow! Thank you guys. The suggested registry modification works like a charm. Nice to know that there are such experts on this forum.
  5. Hi! I have HP Pavilion dv6 notebook. It uses the AHCI mode of drives handling and my Win7 work OK with it. Now I found a way how to modify the BIOS to allow to change the AHCI mode into IDE mode. I have some reasons why to do it - sometimes I experiment with various hobbyists OSes and also FreeDOS which I sometimes boot feels better with IDE setting. So please dont't respond me to simply keep the AHCI setting. However after switching into IDE the win7 booting unsuccesfully ends in the first loading screen and the computer restarts. I expected this behaviour, though. My question is: The reinstalation certainly helps. But is necesarry the whole reinstalation with rewritting of all system? Or there is some possibility of limited instalation like "fix the booting problems"? Or the installation CD is not necessary at all and it can be solved in some other way? And last question: Can I expect big performance slowdown or the effect will be rather negligible?
  6. Thank you, with these suggested programs I was able to convert my DVD. But eorth to mention that Vidomi did not offer me to convert from .IFO or .VOB files so I had to use FlaskMpeG. For the first time it crashed but on the second try was the conversion successful. So we have not found the ideal solution (only one program without need of external codecs) but it is a working solution.
  7. Oh, my god, you really think I didn't use Google?
  8. Please, advise me some program for converting video DVD discs into AVI videos. I know I can use a Mencoder for example, but do you know something more user friendly? I tried about ten programs but none worked under Windows98 (even not with KernelEx)
  9. The last chance is to try the VESA drivers from VBEPM project by Bear Window. here
  10. Works great for me! Thanks for it. I was able to succesfuly run Google earth with it. (It didn't work for me with previous versions of KernelEx)
  11. I am using the czech version of Windows98 SE. Is it safe to use the SP 3.0 on it? Or I have to switch into english version? And can install SP 3.0 over KernelEX?
  12. Which client can I use for connecting into DC++ network under Windows98?
  13. Does anobody know why exactly can't be Windows 98 installed from FreeDOS? Is there any patch for it?
