Nevermind I have found what I need in either Stardock's Multiplicity or MaxiVista (not only for Vista despite the name).

I hate to revive this topic but I looked through a bunch of posts I made and realize that I never saw this response... The reason I didn't want to use nLite and just figured the driver pack would be easier is that I really don't want to deal with Windows file protection and although you laid out what causes that I really wish nLite had a option to disable all Windows file protection breaking features. I'm not the only one who uses my computer and it is possible that my wife could install a program that screws up important files and without the file protection that could potentially leave me dead in the water... And leaving it on gets the annoying pop-up all the time. I really like nLite it makes thing incredibly simple, I just would rather be safe then sorry. With driverpacks the disc has the added value of being able to work on my future computers, well at least to boot them which is the only drivers I would want to load automatically anyway.

Okay so we have a large TV on the wall and connected to the TV is a mac mini. We have it set up for boot camp so it is pretty much running windows XP exclusively. We are trying to find a way to allow the people who can view the TV to connect to it and display what they currently have on their screen so that they can show everyone else something. Does anyone know of any software (free or paid) that does this? We don't want to deal with complex video switching hardware and it doesn't have to be able to display great graphics...

Hey LinkyParky - Welcome to the forums. Could you explain your problem a little more? What is the "sign" that you are getting? Could you describe it.

I know this hasn't been updated in a while... But I wanted to add one for under the GUI spot... It is a wallpaper changer that is actually pretty nice, it is Cardware meaning you are encouraged to send a postcard... And they have a Pro version but they don't nag you about it at all.. Is anyone here good with active directory? I am trying to figure out how to change the comment field on a domain... For instance if you navigate to your domain using Windows Explorer then you come up with a listing of computers. There is two fields, Names and Comments. Both can be edited using the domain controller and I think in Active Directory... Does anyone know where that is? The guy that used to do this isn't around anymore... Thanks

Okay so I did figure something out... What I ended up doing is since I am using Driverpack they make a presetup.cmd file and I just added a couple of entries in there to copy my install.cmd and two reg files to the hard drive then I was able to actually point the cmdlines.txt to the c:\ (I always use c: so that shouldn't pose a problem) I tried using %systemdrive% in the cmdlines.txt but it never worked... I tried this... [Commands] "REGEDIT /S %systemdrive%\HKEYUSER.reg" But it didn't work so I just ended up replacing %systemdrive% with c:\ Anywho thanks for your help and if you have any solution to the %systemdrive% that would be great because I would like to run it from that variable in the off chance that it isn't c:

Not that I know how to solve your problem, but since alternatives are being suggested I suggest RyanVM's update pack. It includes nearly all the updates for windows XP. Its what I use and it is very fast and doesn't take much time to do. I can't compare it to the srcpack method as I haven't used that. I haven't had any need since the RyanVM pack has done everything I've needed it to. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that out, but it is not finding the file. For some reason it is not executing from that location. This is what I got: [Commands] "ROE.exe 937" "REGEDIT /S HKEYUSER.reg" "install.cmd" But when windows starts up after installing it says that it can't find "%CDROM%\install.cmd" or something to that effect. I use a winnt.sif file but I don't have any [unattended] section because that breaks the repair function. I tried sifting through the numerous %CDROM% variable posts but I can't seem to figure out how to get it to work.

Okay so I am trying to figure out how to run a *.cmd file from the CD. My problem is that I need to make two types of CDs, once for unattended installs and the other for XP repairs. I finally got the XP repair one to actually work, but now I can't figure out how to get it to run a CMD file from the CD. Or better yet figure out a way to copy it to the computer and then run it without having to use the OEM Pre-install switch in the winnt.sif file. Anyway I am trying to apply two .reg entries, one local and one user. The user one is most important to apply during the install as it sets defaults for all subsequent user accounts. I also want to set it up to run the DPsFnshr.exe file because for some reason that file isn't running. When I have the cmdlines.txt file in the OEM folder does that one still run even if the unattended part of the sif file is not there? Any help would be awesome!

Vista unattended Guide
xenon2050 replied to FireGeier's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
WOW! That guide is absolutely, totally, awesome! I downloaded WAIK and was trying to figure out how to use it then I remembered having run across your guide... And it saved me a lot of time and errors, at least so far. At the very least it will point me in the right direction. Thanks! -
Just wanted to post a quick update... I found out that HP encrypts their *.WIM files before they send them out sooo that means that short of being a HP employee it wouldn't be worth it to use the disc... Thanks for your help nuhi.

Hmm, well i wasn't able to even try to merge. But it doesn't really matter, I'll just wait until I get the anytime upgrade disc. Thanks
-
Okay tried that, but then it says "No images detected, exiting"

Okay well I ended up using nlite to add SP2 and the RVM update but I used http://www.driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ to add one of their mass storage driver packs. Thanks for the reply.
-
Okay thanks, I'll try that out and see if it works.

Well it is my goal to do Vista without the HP junk. But I would like to be able to use the recovery disc, because I don't know when the anytime disc will come and because i have it. I figured there would be some way to remove all their junk, but maybe I'm wrong.

I played around with nLite a few months back, but I kept getting File Protection problems so I decided to use RyanRVM to integrate and then I just made my own registry file to apply tweaks with. But I have a question, I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but what is it that causes the File Protection problem? Is it integrating the updates or drivers? Or is it the tweaks or removing of components? The reason I ask is because i really like how nLite integrates drivers. It works so much better than just using the .SIF file to do so. So my question is basically, can I use nLite for just adding drivers and building the ISO and not worry at all about the File Protection? If not is there a way to more or less easily integrate drivers into the windows install CD? The reason I ask is I have a computer that needs SATA/RAID drivers to recognize the hard drive, but I don't have a floppy drive and don't want to put one in so I want to integrate the drivers for that. But it would also be nice to integrate all the driver not just the SATA. I have visited the Unattended Guide and used their method but it just doesn't work as well..

here is the list of files E:\BOOT E:\Master.log E:\SERVICE E:\SOURCES E:\boo.mgr E:\preload E:\BOOT\BCD E:\BOOT\BOOT.SDI E:\SOURCES\boot.wim E:\preload\ALL.CRC E:\preload\ALL.I32 E:\preload\ALL.ITR E:\preload\BASE.DAT E:\preload\BASE.WIM E:\preload\BASE2.WIM E:\preload\BASE3.WIM E:\preload\BASE4.WIM E:\preload\CD0 E:\preload\CSP.DAT E:\preload\DESC.TXT E:\preload\RP.CRC E:\preload\SPLIT.LOG E:\preload\WINDOWS.CRC E:\preload\WINDOWS.DAT E:\preload\WINDOWS.I32 E:\preload\WINDOWS.ITR I have found some more information on the issue... Notebookreview.com has a guide. Problem is hp stopped giving out the Windows anytime upgrade discs with their laptops. So I ordered one from MS, but I would still like to know if I could use my recovery disc and not have to use the anytime upgrade disc...

Not sure if I should put this in this forum or the Vista unattended.. I just got a new laptop, HP, and it has all kinds of junk on it. I would like to do a new install with the Vista recovery disk. Only problem is I'm guessing all their junk is on the 5GB+ DVD as well. I downloaded Vlite and tried to use it to edit the disc but it says it can't find the expected files. Is there a way to edit the disc at all? Has anyone done this on a HP recovery disc? Thanks

So if I have a XP SP2 disc, that was slip streamed with a program other then Nlite, or by some manual way. Does that mean I can't integrate non-microsoft drivers? So will I have to find a non-SP2 disc and slip stream it with Nlite and then apply the updates and drivers I want?

I too would like to leave SFC on for safety reasons. I get the SFC popup every so often when installing something. My question is when is has the popup saying that files have been replaced by unrecognized versions windows must restore original versions insert Win XP SP2 disc. When that popup happens is it notifying me that important files are now replaced by wrong versions and that SFC isn't working anymore? Am I supposed to put the XP disc in? Is any functionality broken? In Nlite I didn't disable SFC. I don't mind the longer install time so long as OS integrity is ensured and no extra registry hacks must be taken after it is installed.

Problems with Reboot and Autoit Scripts
xenon2050 replied to capdigital's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
Okay... Acutally that sounds about right and makes complete sense... But if that is the case I might as well just change it to be in the same folder.. I just didn't want to have to have to versions of those. One for WPI and one for individual installs... But then I could use WPI for all individual installs. I'll have to run that by the rest of IT... Thanks for the quick response. -
I had a similar problem. I made a image and used in in VMWare and it worked well. Then I decided to change a few of the tweak settings so I fired Nlite up again changed a few things and resaved the ISO. Well for some reason that broke it, it would hang on 9 minutes remaining. So I re-extracted XP and put back my addon and drivers, tweaks and components rebuilt it tried it again in VM and it worked flawlessly. Then I tried it on a PC and it worked! As a side note, I love this program it is awesome. Thanks for making it.

Problems with Reboot and Autoit Scripts
xenon2050 replied to capdigital's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
My structure is WPI\Install\exe Install has the compiled scripts... Exe has the setup files. I've tried running WPI from the hard drive and from a ISO... Not that that would make too much difference. Oh and one other thing, it doesn't have problems with all the programs I use AutoIt for just some. The one i remember that doesn't work is Adobe Reader 8.2.. ;Adobe 8.2 Run ( "exe\AdbeRdr80_en_US.exe" ) WinWaitActive ( "Adobe Reader 8 - Setup" , "Destination Folder" ) ControlClick ( "Adobe Reader 8 - Setup", "", "[CLASS:Button; INSTANCE:1]" ) ;Click install to begin WinWaitActive ( "Adobe Reader 8 - Setup" , "Ready" ) ControlClick ( "Adobe Reader 8 - Setup", "", "[CLASS:Button; INSTANCE:1]" ) WinWaitActive ( "Adobe Reader 8 - Setup" , "Setup Completed" ) ControlClick ( "Adobe Reader 8 - Setup", "", "[CLASS:Button; INSTANCE:2]" ) ControlClick ( "Adobe Reader 8 - Setup", "", "[CLASS:Button; INSTANCE:1]" )
