  1. There is something wrong in the way HFSLIP 2.0 handles Windows Media Player 11 integration, in particular the "User Mode Driver Framework". This causes issues with some mp3 players (MTP devices) such as my Creative ZEN 4 GB. When I tried installing the driver, Device Manager found the files but came up with an error "The specified service could not be started". My solution was reinstalling Windows Media Player 11 (wmp11-windowsxp-x86-it-it.exe). I used the latest HFSLIP 2.0 pre-alpha. I don't know if this happens with 1.7.8 too. Hope this helps
  2. Finally! Downloaded and installed immediately... Erm, only one thing. It broke logonui.exe on my XP SP3 (it shows something like 'error parse "" at line 78' and then the classic logon appears) It seems to be a problem related to "updating" the old version (installed 2.6 over 2.5), as I tried installing the Vistapack 2.6 on a fresh XP installation in VirtualBox and the Logon Screen works fine. Oh well, I've been thinking of reinstalling XP for weeks, now I have one more reason: make the Vistapack work I just have to wait AMD releasing the new Catalyst 8.11 drivers so I can make a new nLite CD
  3. magic12kenneth, I didn't use HFSVCPACK_SW1 folder, because i prefer using the RunOnce method. I use RunOnce for: KB956391 (ActiveX KillBits), KB957201 (latest time zone update, found on http://www.thehotfixshare.net), KB940157 (Windows Search 4.0), Silverlight 2.0 and the .NET Frameworks (1.1 SP1 and 3.5 SP1). For Windows Installer 4.5, I put KB942288 in HF along with the other hotfixes. I had some issues int he past, but now Installer is slipstreamed perfectly! The tool HFSLIP_POST_getnewfiles_v3.cmd is necessary only when using HFSLIP 1.7.x, because in 2.0 the list of slipstreamed files is included in HFSLIP.LOG.
  4. Ok time for an update... I tried again integrating SP3 and all post-SP3 hotfixes and updates (IE7, WMP11, DX9 extras, MSI 4.5 and Search 4.0 included) with the latest HFSLIP 2.0 pre-alpha... Installed flawlessly, checked the installed machine on VirtualBox... Now Windows Installer service shows up correctly! The problem? I used for testing a Corporate CD of XP SP2... Yeah, let's say it, I originally had a non-original XP ... But then I acquired a regular license and then received at home a original "Windows XP Pro Genuine Advantage CD"... I just tried with this CD and it integrated like a charm! But there's one thing which didn't work (again)... Windows Search 4.0 integration isn't complete. I posted my problem in a new topic not to go OT here.
  5. Hi. As I said in the topic regarding latest important changes about HFSLIP 2.0, I'm posting a new topic regarding my problem with Windows Search 4.0 integration with latest HFSLIP 2.0 pre-alpha (build 80630a). I recently tried (again) making a fully up-to-date Windows XP CD, with SP3 and all post-SP3 hotfixes (IE7, WMP11, DirectX 9c extras, MSI 4.5 and Search 4.0 included). HFSLIP worked flawlessly and so the tested ISO on VirtualBox did... But in the resulting installation, Windows Search doesn't behave as it should. Files are in the right place, "Indexing Options" are showing up in the Contol Panel and clicking on "Search" makes Windows Search showing up correctly... The problem is, it doesn't work. When I try to search a file, a warning message shows up: "Windows Search isn't running. To enable it, select Programs from the Start Menu, then click on Windows Search": I looked for this link in the Start Menu but it wasn't there. Also, when I click on "Indexing Options" in the Control Panel, all buttons and controls are grayed out and a text in the window says "Indexing not running". I looked in the Services list and started Indexing Service, but nothing changed. Again, there is a service which isn't shown in the list: "Windows Search". I suppose this is the problem, because on my current installation I tried disabling this service and I have the same results. I also tried starting the service via Command Prompt (net start wsearch), but it says "Invalid service name". I really don't know what went wrong, I put "WindowsSearch-KB940157-XP-x86-ita.exe" into the HF folder and the relative plugin (HFSLIP32_PRE_WSearch40.cmd) into HFTOOLS. HFSLIP.log zipped and attached PS I integrated also additional post-SP3 hotfixes from thehotfixshare.net, but I don't think this is the problem, since none of these hotfixes is related to Windows Search and/or Desktop Search (please trust me... I checked and downloaded each single hotfix by myself ). I can post some pictures of the problem if necessary HFSLIP.zip
  6. Hi Lions, the problem I have is the one you've experienced: the Windows Installer service not showing up in services list. I didn't search for MSIServer because I thought it was not integrated properly. Maybe I'll try again to see if this is the problem.
  7. This is strange, I tried with the /integrate switch and it didn't work for me
  8. It's been a while I haven't used HFSLIP. Last time I used it, the only problem so far was that I couldn't integrate Windows Installer 4.5 (KB942288 v3) with the latest HFSLIP 2.0 pre-alpha (80630a). The problem is still the "Windows Installer" service not showing up in the Services list (more info here and here), but it's an error related to the hotfix (because I tried with the /integrate switch and got the same error, as I described here), not to HFSLIP. I don't know if it behaves the same with other languages (I use Win XP Italian), but there must be something wrong in the installer. Meanwhile, I execute it with the /quiet /norestart switch via RunOnce with no problems, but it would be better to directly slipstream it. Another thing, more a feature request than a bug reporting. When slipstreaming DirectX redist, is it possible to integrate also Microsoft.DirectX.*.xml (DirectX for managed Code) files? I must say I hope Tomcat76 will come back soon, but if he's busy with other things, I can understand Bye
  9. The too long bitmaps in "New Partition" wizard are in dmdlgs.dll, as okram98pive suggested. For the logo in "About Windows", i made two versions: a generic "Windows XP" logo for all editions, and one with dedicated logos (Embedded, Home, Professional). This is the generic one: And these are the different editions: I made one zip file for each edition with all the bitmaps needed to be replaced (they're both on SkyDrive). Generic Dedicated (Home, Professional, Embedded) PS I removed the 2002-2007 text, so it's not necessary to change the date once a year (and IMHO because it looks better) PPS I posted the full-size images because I think they're small enough... correct me if I'm wrong
  10. This is strange... I'm pretty sure this problem has been reported in previous versions, but I thought it had been fixed in 2.5. Anyway... The "New partition" Wizard doesn't show the bitmap correctly: Another thing I recently noticed, the the Windows Logo in "About Windows" is a little stretched... I found that these bitmaps are in shell32.dll (147.bmp and 149.bmp). There is a correct bitmap of the same format (413x72) in msgina.dll (128.bmp), but i think the text "2002-2007" is too close to the logo. I can try make a better one if you want... But I see that you're testing 2.6 right now, maybe you want to wait 2.7 for this? PS Sometimes Imageshack really drives me MAD
  11. Now this is weird: after updating my Avira AntiVir Free Edition, a message pops out when I try to execute Vistapack.exe:  I'm sure this is a False Positive, because I get the same message when I try to unpack the installer. I should send a report to Avira, but I don't know where! For all those who get the same message, just put C:\Program Files\Vistapack XP\Vistapack.exe in Configure > Scanner > Scan > Exception > "File objects to be omitted for the scanner" and in Configure > Guard > Scan > Exception > "File objects to be omitted for the Guard", and Vistapack.exe in Configure > Guard > Scan > Exception > "Processes to be omitted for the Guard". This isn't really a bug, but I think it's useful to report. PS I'm really looking forward to Vistapack 2.6!
  12. I updated the link for Italian version to v1.8.31.9, check my previous post
  13. Since MS updated the WGA hotfix, I post here the new version. KB905474 - Windows Genuine Notifications v1.8.31.9 ITALIAN Build Date: 5th September 2008 Size: 1,35 MB (1390 KB) http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/crup/2008/09/windowsxp-kb905474-ita-x86_9a75f941e31178c855ac5eaf35d543bb7359a909.exe EDIT: Updated from v1.8.31.0 to v1.8.31.9
  14. If you want the new muauth.cab for slipstreaming, just copy it from "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\AuthCabs" after installing the new agent. I found also a newer version of the MUweb_site.cab (7.2.6001.784): http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdat...b?1218890277265
  15. Actually, there are a lot of themes I like, but i haven't a favourite one. Default themes (especially Luna Metallic and Royale Noir) are nice but after a long time I become bored of them. So I started making my own visual style (link in the signature). Excluding my own custom styles, the one I like most between customs is the Luna Element 5.0.5 Black (which still has a noir feeling, 5.1 is more like Zune).
  16. Hi nuhi, recently I had some spare time to update the Italian translation, fixing some involountary errors and adding new components and tweaks to it. The result is good, although some Server 2003 components are still in English since I never used 2k3 and I don't know how to translate them. I didn't start from scratch, I've modified the old 'Italiano.lang' file: for this reason, I kept the original translator's name in the Translation properties. Here's the updated file. Maybe you can put it in the next version of nLite? That would be great! Italiano.zip
  17. My PC has a Maxtor (6V250F0). I can't say if this is the best brand, but IMHO it works just fine.
  18. Wow, I'm so happy to be part of the team I don't have much time right now (busy with school exams), but I'll be free from the 3rd of July. Cheers
  19. Another suggestion, I saw that the icon in the upper corner of Windows Media Player 11 was still the default one. So I searched in wmploc.dll to find and replace that icon. I found many of WMP11's default icons in BMP format, I replaced them all to be sure. And this is the result... I replaced original BMPs with ResourceHacker, as I don't know how to add them in the pack... I attached a ZIP file with the Bitmaps to replace: 101.bmp, 2178.bmp, 4012.bmp and 4013.bmp in wmploc.dll. I hope you like it PS I saw a long list of very old bitmaps in wmploc.dll (even some WMP8 resources!), and I don't even know if they're still used... wmploc.zip
  20. Hi damian, I must say this is a great pack, been using it since 2.0 And it keeps improving! I like the new bootscreen and logoff... But I think a more Vista-Like logon would be better (I voted to the poll ) There is only one thing I don't like very much, and it's the shortcut arrow. IMO, it's too big, in particular when using 48px icons. So I edited the original one (shell32\30.ico), moving the 32px arrow to the 48px icon setting, and making the 32px arrow a little smaller. This is how it looks with 48px icons. I think it's better like this. For TrueTransparency, I see no point in removing it, as it is included as an extra in the pack and users can choose whether to use it or not. Obviously, they're only suggestions. And another thing, if you like, I can translate the main Vistapack window in italian, al well as other resources in the pack. Edited icon attached. 30.ico
  21. Ok, I've found something that might be helpful. I tried to slipstream Installer 4.5 with the /integrate switch on a clean SP3 source. I didn't integrate anything else. Then I tested the resulting ISO on VirtualBox as usual... And the result is the same! Installer service doesn't show up on the services list. So the problem it's probably related to the hotfix, not to HFSLIP. Hope this helps.
  22. Maybe it's the wrong 7za.exe command-line tool? I downloaded the latest version from the official website.
  23. Tried again without KB949269 and KB951978. Apparently, nothing changed: Installer service still doesn't show up. I'll try removing also the other 2 updates.
