    I386 Testing

Ok, I'll try with a clean SP3 CD.

    I386 Testing

Well I have to reinstall XP on Virtualbox because I need it to make and test XP visual styles. I can try I386 patching if you want. Just a question: do I need a clean source, this means a SP3 CD with no update packs and no removals?
  3. Good to know they have fixed it. It seems to be common with Gigabyte motherboards (mine is a Gigabyte too). Thanks for the answer
  4. I just noticed a small bug in System properties on Windows 7 RC x64. "Memory installed (RAM)" isn't showing anything: I have 2 GB RAM installed on this system. I'm almost sure this is a visual bug only, because both Task Manager and Performance Informations and Tools show the correct amount of RAM. So it's not a big issue, but I'm just wondering what is causing this.
  5. An update regarding ATI Tray Tools: on Win 7 x64, it has the same Driver Signing Issue as in Vista x64. For further infos about the problem, see my post at page 2 or google "driver signing windows x64"
  6. Sorry if I recover my old post... I recently updated to build 7100 (RC), and yesterday I reinstalled nLite to make an updated XP CD. I integrated two update packs on an XP image with SP3 already slipstreamed, then built the ISO, and then rebooted. Links are still there. Last time, I did a different thing: I integrated SP3 on an SP2 XP CD. Maybe the problem is not caused by nLite, but by the SP3 installer. I will test it as soon as I can. Maybe they fixed the bug.
  7. Whoa! You might want to use a darker shade of green. I can barely read the bright green text. You're right. Corrected
  8. I updated my previous post here to build 7100 and did an overall cleanup. I'll test again all apps I tested in Beta to make the post less confusing.
  9. I can do Italian translation (as I did with Vize 1.x) if you like

    xpize 5 Beta 2

Nice, downloaded and installed a few hours ago. All seems to work properly. My first impression is absolutely positive! Nice work!
  11. @ dlsolo, I didn't touch the Services page. Default configuration is fine for me (at the moment). @cluberti, I installed the system directly to my PC (no VM). If I have to make a clean install to test, I prefer to wait for the official RC. I don't have enough time to reinstall at the moment, and I wanted to try a newer build.
  12. Almost everything I installed on build 7048 was on build 7000 too. Here's the list: For filter drivers, sorry but I don't even know what they are but, I remember that vLite uses a WIM filter driver. And the last apps I've installed are nLite 1.4.9.1 and booogy's WMP11 Slipstreamer 1.4i: can they be causing this issue? I haven't even used them yet, I only set up a nLite session for a XP x64 ISO but I didn't apply any setting except slipstreaming SP2.
  13. I've experienced a very strange issue with Windows 7, both on build 7000 x64 and 7048 x64. This doesn't happen at first installation, but after some days of use. The problem is, after a reboot, all the links vanished, both in Start Menu and Desktop. Only links related to Windows and Windows' components don't disappear. The strangest thing is, all the program folders in start menu are still present, but they're all empty. Apps pinned to the taskbar are still present too but they don't start (Windows asks me to unpin them from the taskbar since it can't find them). I can only start applications by going to "Program Files (x86)" folder and manually rebuild the links. Am I the only one who is experiencing the same issue? Can this be related to some software I use?
  14. Updated today to build 7048 x64. I'll test again those apps. As usual, check my previous post at page 2
  15. My only solution to delete files is, up to now, restarting the PC. Sometimes just killing the explorer.exe process works, but not always.
  16. I have the same problem sometimes too. It's not a virus though, it happens with a large variety of .exe files. But I don't know what is causing this problem. I don't thinks it's an UAC problem though.
  17. Thanks for the answer about the graphic card.
  18. Ok, now I understand Do you have any ideas about the graphic cards' scores I described in my previous post?
  19. Actually my Hard Disk is the one which got the lowest score - 3.0. I didn't understand why in Vista scored 5.5, but now that I read it's OK. But I can't complain, since I got a very good general score. I have a ATI Radeon X1950 Pro and I got this score. A friend of mine has an X1950 XTX and the score is 0.1 lower in poth GPU scores. How is this possible? Both the cards are 512 MB, not overclocked, and my friend has a more powerful PC (not only the GPU). Is something related to monitor resolution? I have a 1280x1024 monitor, he has a 1600x1050 one. @cluberti, you're using the default Windows graphic drivers. If you install the latest Catalyst for Vista, the GPU scores better. If you already know this, that's OK.
  20. Good to know... I didn't use the contextual menus in the recycle bin (unchecking them during install), that's why I didn't notice. I'll update my post
  21. Ok, I'll shrink my signature as soon as I write this post... Anyway, I solved. This strange behavior was related to my pagefile settings... I set pagefile.sys on a dedicated partition some time ago, then I hid that partition with Paragon Partition Manager 8.5. But I didn't know that the hide method of PPM was removing the letter (I thought it was something similar to the tweak in Powertoys for XP), and pagefile.sys can't be put in a partition without letter... So the window apparently popped out because actually there wasn't a page file. I restored the partition and the pagefile on it, and next time I restarted the PC it didn't pop out anymore. So I solved but I wouldn't have expected that it was the pagefile setting which was causing this... Very strange.
  22. I activated my Windows 7 Beta with the product key I requested and received on the Microsoft website. The "System Properties" window that shows up it's this one: I tried changing some parameters (the workgroup name, the computer's name, etc) but nothing changed: still popping out at every login.
  23. Well, it's not really big problem, but indeed it's strange. It's a startup problem: the advanced "System properties" windows with "Computer name" selected shows up immediately after the login. I looked into Startup folder in Start menu, I checked HKCU:Run and HKLM:Run (with CCleaner) and there's nothing related to this window. This bug appeared after two weeks of normal use. I have no idea of what is causing this popup, nor how to disable it. Has anyone else experienced the same problem? I'm running 64 bit version of Windows 7 beta. The system's specifics are in my signaure.
  24. SPTD won't work but they said in a later post they'll take a look on Windows 7. So we can hopefully wait for, at least, a beta version. I had no issues with Realtek HD Audio Drivers, installed Vista's R2.11 64 bit and they run just fine. Default ones didn't work properly for me.

NET Runtime Unhandled Exception when trying to open a folder containing the extracted files: probably, something related to 64-bit WIM filter driver and/or wimgapi.dll. Running it in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode solves the problem and almost everything works, but hotfixes don't integrate.
