I'm wondering how the community would like to handle this. We'd like to maintain a list of last-working versions for users to be able to obtain. We'll include a caveat about bugs, security issues, and it being unsupported, of course. I'm inclined to have a single page listing all the last-working versions and including links from each app's homepage affected to that page. That way we can have all of them in one place and only have one big notice about why it's a bad idea as well as how to install it so the updater won't offer to update it. It's possible we could also do a specific XP version with a renamed AppID (FileZillaPortableLegacyForXP) as a last release as well using the updated installer so that it will continue to work. We could even include a warning about it being unsupported on install. Ditching 2K We're ditching 2K. It's barely used and most apps no longer support it. Windows XP is still widely used. ------ Poor Win2K, this makes me very sad. I would think you'd want to make it a reusable system, in case Vista (not likely) or Se7en (more likely) decide to hang on like XP has, in which case adding 'Legacy Win2K' support wouldn't be much more of a burden then adding 'Legacy XP' support already is. (I'll make 'Legacy Win2K' Plugins [see below] for you if that'll help to change your mind.) ------ First, we're dropping Windows 2000 support in the platform, so they won't even have access to the ability to download alternate versions by the platform, rendering the alternate packages moot. Second, even if we did tie ourselves to the dead Delphi XE2 release in order to keep supporting Windows 2000, the bigger issue is time. At present, all releases have to be reviewed, digitally signed, uploaded, and added to the database by me. I'm not going to spend time doing that for the 150 apps in our database that dropped Windows 2000 support 1 or more years ago. Windows 2000 users have no active support from most apps right now, so it's not like they're losing anything. Windows 2000 also has barely any userbase. Windows XP is a very different situation. There are probably more Windows XP users today than there were Windows 2000 users 3 years before it was end of lifed. And the majority of apps today support Windows XP. So, this is a small amount of work for the handful of apps dropping Windows XP support that we'd have to test for anyway for a benefit for a good number of users. Windows 2000 is a ton of work for a handful of users for very old and insecure versions of apps. --- I answered what you asked. And you did have 2000 or 2K 5 different times in your post. My point was that it would only serve Windows 2000 right now, which doesn't make sense because it's barely used, would require a ton of effort to sort through the apps for little benefit, and the platform will be dropping support for it anyway which makes it moot. We don't need to worry about Vista until 2017... and then not much at all since it's the ugly stepchild with hardly any users. So, Windows 7 in 2020 is the likelier bet due to the large installbase and the fact that desktops get replaced much less often than 10 years ago. ... Oh well those old Windows 2k die hards ... hope it just stays XP, will be complicated enough. ... also as mentioned in the discussions ... the little free program CPU-Z will show if your CPU has SSE2. I have used it for years as most everyone has but if you never heard of it ... here's the link. I am still using version 1.70.0 but the current version is CPU-Z 1.71.1. http://www.cpuid.com/ ... this is from a posting at the discussion section: I think an addition to your proposed page instructing the users to try CPU-Z to check their CPU. If it doesn't support SSE2 then they are probably stuck with an older version of the App they are trying. Maybe a sticky somewhere is needed to alert XP users to check their CPU if they are having problems with new version of an App. ...

I probably didn't understand your post ... there are also two paid versions now, I thought there only used to be one. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download As I said earlier the "free version" is still around but maybe it's not as good as a few versions back. It doesn't seem to have very many "checkmarks" these days ... everything maybe been moved to a paid version, I don't know. It doesn't have "Complete Cleaning" checked for the free version. Not sure what is not "cleaned" and how important it might be. I've always used it with Windows 98SE and XP. Maybe anyone fooling around with Windows 10 will want to check it out.

That's a good description ... more like a periscope. The military will probably have many uses for it as also police maybe in a hostage standoff. I'm sure the company will sell many of these little devices. It doesn't seem like a real drone to me with the tether line attached for power but it has many uses and small drones with a power supply would be of limited use timewise. ...

Seems like a new drone thread is in order ... the other has gotten so large. All those earlier drone posts about "small or tiny" drones not being able to fly around very long ... might be ancient history. This new small drone will fit in your pocket, fly for hours and send back top quality video. Now we all have reason to be worried about being watched or spied on by a neighbor, police or anybody. From the article: "It fits in your pocket and weights a mere 80 grams. It'll fly continuously for two hours or more, sending back high quality HD video the entire time." There is one catch, if you can call it that ... it has a microfilament tether that unspools from the drone and keeps it constantly connected to communications and power. I guess this is still a drone even though the power is not on board ... still interesting for "long term" spying ... explains why the weight is so low. So a neighbor could easily hover and spy all night looking into windows ... if it's plugged into a power grid, you get two hours + from the base station. OK ... the news that you have KM74 working a little on W98SE might be of interest in the KM Forum ... after you experiment more. I assume you probably have KernelEx installed. I am sure there are still W98SE users there along with Windows XP. I tried K74 and it seemed to have "some limitations" that the developer didn't carry over into his version ... also a lot of older plugins working with older versions of KM didn't work with KM74 ... that was a few months ago and maybe some of those have been updated. I liked the KM v1.8 version since it still was close to the KM v1.6 (JamesD) version, which I understand better but it has a newer Gecko engine, if I understand things correctly. I thought someone might answer your question, so I will reply. I have no real answer for you ... I don't use Firefox and I am not using this newer KM version at present. I am using KM v1.8.24 which is "connected" to the newer version on early research or trials. I was using (and still have it available) the KM v1.60 by JamesD and then in August I discovered KM v1.8.24 ... it's more like the KM JamesD version but newer. It doesn't seem to use much resources. Go to the KM forum under the General tab and ask your question ... I am sure JohnHell or JamesD or someone will answer your question ... you do not have to be a member to post anything, I am pretty sure. I seem to remember someone making a comment about FF and KM some time back ... it may have been JohnHell. ... -

Starting a new post ... the other is long enough. I missed that about Windows 7 in your first post ... that Netgear card will not work with Windows 7 ... I think ... so with Windows 7 and XP on one computer probably something more "modern" is the answer ... I only have XP on my notebooks. I found this at the Major Geeks forum: The first link in the answer by Squeaner does still work and you might want to download it and save it in a folder ... maybe it will be useful, maybe not. thinkpad t42 wireless problem http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=210783 *** just to add ... perhaps someone else with a Thinkpad T42 can be of help to you. I just pulled one of the Netgear WG511 v2 boxes out of storage ... it says it will work with Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 Professional and XP ... no Windows 7 mentioned. However, this card did not work very well for me with Windows 98SE ... it was hit and miss, maybe the Netgear drivers were at fault for this newer card ... when I used an older Netgear card with Windows 98SE, everything worked great. That's when I decided to put XP on my T42 notebooks ... that was a good move ... I thinks this card had better drivers for XP, seems to be flawless. Just my observations. ...

From what I remember over 2 1/2 years ago ... the part about going back to an older driver was on the Thinkpad forum. I have been searching around and can't spot any talk about it. Perhaps IBM or Lenovo fixed or released a newer working driver since then. I seem to remember as I searched ... there were many people having problems with the WiFi on the T42 notebook. I had the Netgear card working and after a few more months of searching finally found the solution to the T42 WiFi working. So I have two ways to connect with WiFi ... I have the IBM T42 internal WiFi turned off and use the Netgear card. After I got everything working to my satisfaction ... I made an image backup of both machines ... never going to have that problem again. This is the Netgear card that I bought ... you don't have to buy it ... I had an older Netgear card to use for Windows 98 but it didn't seem to work well with XP so I got a few of these cards ... they were $15 then for new ... today I see the price is $5.25 ... it looks like a new sealed card but it might be used. http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-WG511V2-54Mbps-802-11g-Wireless/dp/B003HY35O4 I also found the card here at Amazon for $59.33 from another seller ... After I tried it out on my T42 XP setup and it worked OK ... I bought 3 or 4 more to use and have some "spares" in case one of my cards went bad ... newer notebooks no longer have these PCMIA slots, I think ... don't know for sure with "all" newer notebooks ... so I figured these cards were no longer going to be made, wanted to play safe. I have used this card like crazy many times every day for years and it still works just fine ... I have two T42 Thinkpads and there are problems with the WI-Fi drivers as I remember from 2012 when setting up Windows XP. I bought a Netgear card (WG511 v2) ... very cheap from an Amazon seller and like it better in my T42. To make the Thinkpad Wi-Fi work I found a solution from others having the same problem ... the latest driver has to replaced with an older driver ... also do not download any WI-Fi driver from the MS update. They have an IBM driver there under Other Software or something and it will take off the old driver and put the newer driver back on and screw everything up ... at least it did on my machine. You will need to search around on Google and the Thinkpad forum ... you may not have the same problem that I had ... my Wi-Fi works fine but I like using the Netgear card in the PCMIA slot better ... will pick up more signals. Ok ... appreciate the replies. I will say that the games are OK and play nice on my setup, no problems except for what I described earlier ... also, I don't remember ever having this occur with anything else, just these free games. I downloaded Wireshark 1.12.1 and a message popped up that it "may" not work with XP and that I should download Wireshark 1.10.10 ... so I will get that version and see what information I get. I was just curious if others play some of these free games and if they also have the game trying to connect home when they start the game? Perhaps some firewalls are better than others and will pick up on the attempt to connect to the internet ... maybe no firewall program can detect the connection attempt ... that would be interesting to know ... also maybe because I am on XP versus a newer OS might have some bearing ... don't know. thanks ...

Last year I downloaded a few free games from a website and just a few days ago I downloaded a couple more from Game Top ... http://www.gametop.com/category/downloadable.html My question is a simple one which I know one of you real gamers can probably give me an answer ... I have searched around but can find no information. Ok, I download and install the free game but every time I click on the game to play or to quit playing, the game makes an attempt to connect to the internet. I am not connected at the time and these free simple games can be played alone on a PC ... no internet connection needed. My question is ... how are these internet connection attempts not going through my firewall so I could put the firewall setting at "No" and it would never happen again? It's a bit annoying but how does the game go straight online and by-pass the firewall? I am wondering about other possible programs going on the internet and bypassing the firewall also ... if these simple free games can do it. So far every free game that I have tried has the ability to not be picked up by my firewall ... like I said earlier, if it did go through the firewall ... I could set the setting to "No" for all future attempts. thanks ...

OK ... a stupid question from an XP user. A short time ago I posted a link to an article from Asia about the possibility of Windows 9 being "free" when it is released ... also there was some mention that there might be a special deal for XP users in some way. I'm not following these newer OSs too much since I will probably remain with XP anyway. However reading these posts over the last few days ... I'm a bit confused. All the talk is now Windows 10 and jumping from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Simple question ... where is Windows 9 fitting into all this or it doesn't fit. Is Windows 9 just an "enhansed" update for Windows 8 but being called Windows 9 ??? There is no talk or mention of Windows 9 ... just talk of jumping from Windows 8 to Windows 10 ... so there appears to be "no real interest" in Windows 9. I'm just curious about all this ... you guys know the new stuff coming on the horizon. I would have never posted the link to the article ... that Windows 9 could be possibilty free, it seems to already be "ancient history". ... OK I just now spotted a post by JorgeA: Here's an explanation (see the comments section) for why Microsoft jumped from Windows 8 to Windows 10. So Windows 9 no longer exists ... so it won't ever be free for anyone as it never really existed !!! Just missed all this news.

That's what I was also thinking ... since sharks are known to eat almost anything. I believe license plates and you name it has been found in a shark's s stomach ... maybe everything except a riding lawnmower. That's interesting about Google’s Undersea Cables ... maybe the sharks are on our side! Perhaps the eletrical impulses going through the cables are picked up by the shark since they and other sea animals can read electrical impulses of sea creatures in "fear" mode and such. Don't know, just a theory, not very scientific. -
