jaclaz ... thanks for the "scared cat" pictures ... I actually see the same cat in the second link with both ears. The picture insert submix8c uses does have a better effect. I also like the cat in the first link ... the very last row to the right. Never thought to check "scared cat" pictures in Google ... many good ones in the first link. ...
-
submix8c ... just to be off topic, I've enjoyed that cat photo for some time. I assume you found that picture somewhere on the internet or is that actually your cat that spent the night in the woods or something? ...

OK ... I may look into that ... I'm actually starting to warm up to the new "MSFN Expert" title. I will let it go for now ... it may work out, as long as nobody asks me anything! ...
-
Yes, that was the term on my ID ... friend of MSFN ... I remember that now. Another "Mystery of the Ocean" cleared up ! ...

jaclaz ... yes, I think I have it down to understanding my earlier question. I ran the Command (CMD) Prompt, do a "FORMAT /?" then look at "/A:size" that submix8c provided. I have more information than I did when I first posted. Also, OK I recently went over 1000 posts but I really wasn't paying that much attention to the ID change to "MSFN Expert" ... so when a "post milestone" is reached ... a person is now considered to be a sage or expert ... if only it were true! That clears that up. ...

I fixed Sound recorder's Memory Issue. (Windows 2000 and XP)

Thanks for the fix ... I will try it out ... might come in handy. ... -
submix8c ... OK, I didn't realize that was the actual answer ... reread everything. That title in my ID ... MSFN Expert is way too generous. ...
-
I have never heard of Viglink ... I will go to Google later and check it out. Maybe everything will clear up later ... I may lose my "expert" title and have to live in the real world again. monroe

Thanks for the additional information and download links. I downloaded the program and am not really sure what I am looking at ... it seems to be a bit over my head or pay grade. All my flash drives are formatted through XP before I put anything on them ... so in short, is this a normal thing with identical folders stored on a hard drive and flash drive? I just don't understand why I never noticed it before. I created another identical folder on the hard drive and copied it to the flash drive ... I got these results. Test folder on hard drive: Size: 165 KB (169,855 bytes) Size on disk: 204 KB (208,896 bytes) Contains: 16 Files, 5 Folders ---------------------------------------------------- Test Folder saved on 16 GB Flash Drive Size: 165 KB (169,855 bytes) Size on disk: 248 KB (253,952 bytes) Contains: 16 Files, 5 Folders I guess it could be another "Mystery of the Ocean". In addition to what 5eraph and you discussed ... I still get this message ... I am using the K-Meleon browser so maybe there is a setting needing to be changed, I don't know. --------------------------------------------------------------- Redirect Loop Redirection limit for this URL exceeded. Unable to load the requested page. This may be caused by cookies that are blocked. The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. NOTE: If accepting the site's cookies does not resolve the problem, it is likely a server configuration issue and not your computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------- It seems a change was also made on my member ID ... it now lists me as a "MSFN Expert" and I am certainly far from being an expert on anything dealing with computers. That was never there before ... I'm not sure what was there ... but it looks nice anyway being call an "expert" ! ...

Yes jaclaz you are correct ... I forgot to mention about the hard drive being NTFS and the flash drive is FAT32 ... wasn't thinking there might be a difference ... but I always compare or check folders all the time (for years) and everything has always matched including MBs ... at least I think so, I'm sure I would have noticed this before today, maybe not. If something would be different in the "files number" then I would know to do a new backup. I tried your link but it doesn't seem to work for me at this time. In answer to your question about cluster size ... where would I get that information? ... is there a software program that would provide that information? ... I remember seeing something like that sometime back but I don't remember where it was ... about cluster size. monroe

I have no idea where to post this but since I am using Windows XP, I am posting here. I just noticed this a few minutes ago. Maybe someone can clear this mystery up for me. I have my Favorites folder (Bookmarks) saved on a 16 GB flash drive. When I right clicked on the Favorites folder and clicked on Properties on my hard drive to see the size and number of files and then clicked on the Favorities folder that is "saved" on the 16 GB flash drive, there is a difference ... but I don't understand it. I was doing a quick compare check to verify they are the same. The folders are identical and should be except for the "Size on disk" figure ... all the other figures match. Here are the figures from the hard drive and flash drive: Favorites folder on hard drive: Size: 58.1 KB (59,596 bytes) Size on disk: 2.15 MB (2,256,896 bytes) Contains: 551 Files, 61 Folders ---------------------------------------------------- Favorites Folder saved on 16 GB Flash Drive Size: 58.1 KB (59,596 bytes) Size on disk: 4.30 MB (4,513,792 bytes) Contains: 551 Files, 61 Folders Why ... if everything is the same are the MBs different ... to my knowledge I am not "compressing" anything ... 2.15 MB X 2 = 4.30 MB ? monroe

In case you have the Shugart Associates' SA1004 drive and you need it repaired ... I found a company that can fix it, should be "as good as new" ! Founded in 1973, Shugart Associates was purchased by Xerox in 1977. In the early 1980s the name was changed to Shugart Corporation. Xerox exited the business in 1985 and 1986, selling the brand name and the 8-inch floppy product line to Narlinger Group (in March 1986). Narlinger promptly rebranded itself as Shugart Corporation and continued as such into the early 1990s. Under Narlinger management, Shugart acquired several discontinued product lines such as the Optotech 5984 Write Once Read Many (WORM) drive. Where did all the years go so fast ... I still think e-mail was the greatest instead of sending something in the mail with 3 or 4 days delivery time. I've stopped with Windows XP and my T42 IBM Thinkpads ... I've have no interest in the future with more speed or whatever. The years are going way to fast. ...

German Millennial Lives On Train Rather Than Pay Rent
Monroe replied to Monroe's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I didn't mention that myself but you are correct ... she is not quite 100% living on the train all the time. Still it's a little adventure before life gets too complicated down the road. So you know about the Washington Post ??? "The real sad thing is however that the article is not on "a" blog, but on the Washington Post." monroe -

This may be fun if it's not raining around that time. "this eclipse will be the first since 1918 where the moon's shadow—the so-called "path of totality"—will sweep across the US from coast to coast." http://www.foxnews.com/science/2015/08/24/great-american-eclipse-is-coming/ The 'Great American Eclipse' is coming By Elizabeth Armstrong Moore August 24, 2015 Ever dreamed of seeing the sky darken and the stars twinkle in the middle of a summer's day? Then mark your calendar for Aug. 21, 2017, because if you're in the US the chances are good that you'll be among the 200 million or so people within a day's drive of the country's first total eclipse of the sun since 1979, reports Space.com. While total solar eclipses are more common than many realize, with 68 this century, this eclipse will be the first since 1918 where the moon's shadow—the so-called "path of totality"—will sweep across the US from coast to coast. It's being called the Great American Eclipse because it will be visible from no other country on the planet. Total eclipses are technically "a fluke of celestial mechanics and time," adds Space.com, because right now the moon, which is gradually moving away from Earth, happens to be the perfect distance to appear equal in size to the sun. The moon's shadow will totally block the sun for the longest duration, two minutes and 40 seconds, just outside of Hopkinsville, Ky., and is being hailed as the largest event to ever hit the town of 32,000 people, reports UPI. But the best bet for clear viewing is said to be in Oregon, where totality will only last 2 minutes but there's a 70% chance of clear skies, as opposed to just 50% from Kentucky east through South Carolina. The path of totality will average 67 miles in width, with a few notable cities in its path, including Lincoln, Neb., Columbia, Mo., and Nashville, Tenn. To those outside the path of totality but in the continental US, a partial eclipse should still be visible, though the sky will be considerably less dark. ...

This is like the older person living on a cruise ship from last year. I like the idea ... she's young and why not ... a nice adventure. The German college student gave up her apartment in spring. "It all started with a dispute I had with my landlord," Müller told The Washington Post via e-mail. "I instantly decided I didn't want to live there anymore - and then I realized: Actually, I didn't want to live anywhere anymore." Instead, she bought a subscription that allows her to board every train in the country for free. Now, Müller washes her hair in the train bathroom and writes her college papers while traveling at a speed of up to 190 mph. She says that she enjoys the liberty she has experienced since she gave up her apartment. "I really feel at home on trains, and can visit so many more friends and cities. It's like being on vacation all the time," Müller said. Financially, she benefits from living on a train: The flat-rate ticket costs her about $380, whereas she had to pay about $450 for her previous apartment. In case there are a few people here that never heard of Proxomitron, I decided to mention it for speeding up surfing. I used it with Windows 98SE and now with XP. Scott R. Lemmon passed away many years ago. This is from the Proxomitron web page ... The Author Scott R. Lemmon originally developed the Proxomitron for his own use. He then decided to release it to the public and made himself available to users via email and in several Proxomitron user-discussion groups. His support, like his program, was always free. With the release of Naoko 4.5, Scott discontinued all further development and support of his program and pulled the official home of Proxomitron off the Web. We respected his decision to move on and wished him all the best -- which is, after all, what he consistently gave to us. Sadly, one year later, Scott died -- but his brilliance of mind and spirit lives on. Simply put, Proxomitron is a reflection of its creator: To know Scott's program . . . is to know Scott Lemmon. Proxomitron.Info ...the Webhiker's Guide to Proxomitron. http://www.proxomitron.info/ also a forum here ... I use the Sidki Config Set ... he has since moved on but it still works and still very popular with most users ... I think. The Un-Official Proxomitron Forum http://www.prxbx.com/forums/ I have used this with any browser but now I have been using ... K-Meleon v1.8.2.4 and Pale Moon v25.6.0 (Intel Atom and Windows XP build). I like K-Meleon since I can switch JavaScript on and off very fast as I need it ... although, it's mostly off. Maybe this will be of some help or someone might want to experiment with Proxomitron. monroe

jaclaz ... I was reading about that small drone yesterday. Glad you posted the story and link ... it's amazing how all this drone stuff has captured the news over the last several years ... just about everyday there is something in the news about drones. That is an interesting little toy ... might be a big money maker for the Christmas Holidays. It should easily fit into a Christmas stocking hanging over the fireplace. monroe

Thanks for confirming the five updates for the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack. It's good to know that with or without getting the newer POSReady updates, the MS Office updates seem to be the same for everybody. ...

With what Dave mentioned several posts back about the number of updates for August ... I don't get the POSReady updates at this time but I have MS Office 2000 installed and I had five updates for the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack. Dave said he had four for his setup ... I also had one update for July and none in June. Just thought I'd mention this ... maybe a difference for computers getting the POSReady updates and computers not getting those updates ... Impossible Rocket Drive Works - Could Get to Moon in Four Hours
Monroe replied to Monroe's topic in General Discussion
Hey ... that's a good question ... How do you stop ??? Some might say ... Well, that's what the Moon is for ... I guess slowly cutting it all back. I have always wondered when something is going that fast ... what about space debris from comets or asteroids or anything in general floating around in deep space ... wouldn't have to be very large to cause a catastrophe at those speeds. ... -
Super fast Star Trek speeds ... "However scientists still have no idea how it actually works. Nasa suggested that it could have something to do with the technology manipulating subatomic particles which constantly pop in and out of existence in empty space." 'Impossible' Rocket Drive Works and Could Get to Moon in Four Hours http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/space/11769030/Impossible-rocket-drive-works-and-could-get-to-Moon-in-four-hours.html The British designed EM Drive actually works and would dramatically speed up space travel, scientists have confirmed. By Sarah Knapton, Science Editor 28 Jul 2015 Interplanetary travel could be a step closer after scientists confirmed that an electromagnetic propulsion drive, which is fast enough to get to the Moon in four hours, actually works. The EM Drive was developed by the British inventor Roger Shawyer nearly 15 years ago but was ridiculed at the time as being scientifically impossible. It produces thrust by using solar power to generate multiple microwaves that move back and forth in an enclosed chamber. This means that until something fails or wears down, theoretically the engine could keep running forever without the need for rocket fuel. The drive, which has been likened to Star Trek’s Impulse Drive, has left scientists scratching their heads because it defies one of the fundamental concepts of physics – the conservation of momentum – which states that if something is propelled forward, something must be pushed in the opposite direction. So the forces inside the chamber should cancel each other out. However in recent years Nasa has confirmed that they believe it works and this week Martin Tajmar, a professor and chair for Space Systems at Dresden University of Technology in Germany also showed that it produces thrust. The drive is capable of producing thrust several thousand times greater than a standard photon rocket and could get to Mars within 70 days or Pluto within 18 months. A trip to Alpha Centauri, which would take tens of thousands of years to reach right now, could be reached in just 100 years. "Our test campaign cannot confirm or refute the claims of the EM Drive but intends to independently assess possible side-effects in the measurements methods used so far," said Prof Tajmar in anew "Nevertheless, we do observe thrust close to the actual predictions after eliminating many possible error sources that should warrant further investigation into the phenomena." "Our measurements reveal thrusts as expected from previous claims after carefully studying thermal and electromagnetic interferences. "If true, this could certainly revolutionise space travel." Shawyer also claims that he is just a few months away from publishing new results confirming that his drive works in a peer reviewed journal. However scientists still have no idea how it actually works. Nasa suggested that it could have something to do with the technology manipulating subatomic particles which constantly pop in and out of existence in empty space. ...

w2k4eva ... here's what I know or was told about the "Back to School" supplies. First of all, just checked the Amazon link in my first post 5 minutes ago and the flash drive price is $6.99 ... goes up and down. I asked an employee if other Walmart stores should also have these flash drives for sale ... she couldn't be 100% sure but thought they should. I told her about the last two years prior with the 8 GB drives and what is interesting ... the flash drives are in a top yellow cardboard bin, maybe some blue lettering ... all the school supplies are in the same exact type bin ... glue sticks, pens, notebooks and etc. The supplies are in the middle walk-in aisle and are on both sides ... three top to bottom rows, if I remember correctly ... lots of bins with school supplies, maybe 30 or 40 total bins. You can't miss them, if your Walmart has a "Back to School" setup. I even think the cardboard bins look exactly the same from year to year. I said to the employee ... you must have a "floor plan" ... these flash drives have been in the same exact place for the last three summers ... top row on the left side entering the store. She said the store employees do not set up the display ... another retailer or contractor sets everything up and fills the bins with everything ... so they have the same floor plan from year to year. Those flash drives are always in the same spot ... all that stuff should be on sale until sometime in late August and then like magic ... everything is gone one day. Ask in your Walmart ... they must have a "Back to School" special going on ... but maybe the bins will be setup different ... I don't know about East coast and West coast. The employee also told me that the price could be slightly different in some Walmarts where there might be more store competition ... it's possible the flash drives could be a little cheaper at some Walmart stores. That's all I know ... look around ... I hope you can find them ... maybe call a few Walmarts ahead if you are going in that direction. Like I said earlier ... these bins are cardboard and go away in late August ... nothing permanent in the store. +++ Let me add this ... look for the Sandisk 16 GB drive back in the Cameras/Electronics location ... they will not have a $4.97 price ... but they might scan at $4.97. At the Walmart I use ... this is what I discovered last year. The price was $9.97, I think ... but with the same bar code as the ones in the school bins ... they were pricing at $4.97 until the school bins go away in August and then it's back to $9.97. Get an employee to scan or find a scanner to check the price. monroe

Yes, I wish I could use USB 3.0 but with my old Thinkpads ... I'm stuck with 2.0 flash drives. A few months ago I was looking to see if I could upgrade to USB 3.0 with an adapter, like I did with an older USB 1.1 computer ... I didn't find anything, so I guess I'm stuck with USB 2.0 ... unless someday I win a new computer at a carnival or something. monroe
