Minor bug report - if one tries to select 149 hotfixes (148 OK) at the hotfix integration step then the explorer window throws an error. One can still integrate 149 hotfixes but they have to be selected in two bites.

However there is a trick to applying Server 2003 x64 hotfixes, namely you have to patch update.exe as described here - must read instructions for keeping your XP x64 install updated. On the application front, the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials no longer supports XP x64, you have to use v4.4.304.0, the only one that did. Also the batch files have largely (but not completely) been rewritten to copy then execute those applications whose names include version numbers, this should make them more robust to executable name changes but you cannot have two or more versions of the same application in \AddOns.

SciTech Display Doctor link fixed, the other items (while interesting for historians and developers) would likely just be confusing to those this guide is targeting.

The only thing I can think of is that you have an old version of the torrent, be sure to grab the latest from the tracker. If that doesn't work then that's just plain weird, still you should be able to override it.

Yes, the upgrade is intentional, one could make the same point about the hotfix list supporting IE8 & WMP11 rather than IE6 & WMP10 (as well as other lower profile updates).

All things considered I wouldn't put too much faith in such documentation, often the notes for current releases are wrong let alone a page that hasn't been updated in over a year. The most up to date version of IE7 is 7.0.6000.21357 (from KB2879017) while the most recent installer ships with version 7.0.5730.13

On the test install, when you navigate to the install media, does it have the correct folder layout?

Is that {A} the batch file didn't launch at all or {B} the batch file ran but didn't execute any installers?

That is correct for error checking, did the batch file find and try to execute the .Net installer or did you get a string of "file not found" messages?

While not having used VMware player myself, I would note that the install works in VMware server, so I can't see that being an issue. Try changing the "TimeOut /T 40" at step 7 to "Pause" and inserting a "Pause" command in Run1_XP-64.bat just before "rem dotNet 2.0/3.5 + PowerShell". Then run the install again and see what happens at those points.
