  1. Running it now and have seen very few issues (and all those were cured by going to IE7 mode). Very positive, for what I have seen so far.
  2. Download it from here (the sending page).
  3. Of course. Chikka on Pidgin then.
  4. How do you do this? I understand Chikka Messenger is Jabber-based, so I'm thinking if there weren't any quirk changes from the open-source part, I should be able to connect using the Jabber component, but what are the settings that are necessary?
  5. you should be able to use the straight copy command, I would think. copy *.txt mytextfile.txt Or some such thing. You would have to load the result file up and make formatting changes, etc, but hopefully it should work out for you.
  6. Thanks for the compliments and glad the program worked out for you.
  7. I went to the site and found only 1.8.5. Where is the download link on that site to get 1.8.6?
  8. It'll work if you use the full downloadable version, but remember that this is a beta and will be suceeded by a final version. The beta will also not work 180 days after its release date. So you will have more work to reload it before that time comes. Better would be to just load your OEM XP disk and the patches and then if you wish to try XP SP3 RC2 3311, straight install it, so you can deinstall it and install the final one when it comes out. When the final one comes out, then you can slipstream and install to keep.
  9. This has just now been made public as well (English, Japanese, and German): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
  10. I was wondering if anyone still has anything to do with MIDI files? I came across my old collection (which I haven't played in years), and thought about that (and possibly sharing). Very small files, but very old tech too for what they were. I guess though they might still be usable as cell phone ring tones?
  11. I use one also to tighten bras-busses to hold the motherboard. That too. I keep compressed air around as well. Speaking of which, what do you all use the other stuff beyond what I listed for? Like the soldering iron? I can't say I've ever run into anything that I've really needed one for when it comes to the inside of a computer case. I can see it, perhaps, for tying power wire together or fixing power supply sockets, but can't think of much more. What I was talking about earlier are Kelly Forceps. Don't remember where I got my pair, but they were cheap enough at the time (I think I gave 50c or something for them):
  12. I bought a kit and it held up okay, the thing of it is, I rarely use about 3/4 of it anyway when I do PC hardware work. Most of it can be done with the phillips head screwdriver or the standard size nutdriver. I used a nut-driver smaller than that at times to tighten the connections on expansion cards, but beyond that, I haven't needed much more. The three-prong grabby tool in the kit gets used every once in a great while, but I have a pair of old medical forceps? (looks like a pair of metal scissors but has a plier like head), which works better for picking up stray screws that fall in crevices or the like, that I use. Of course, a lot depends on what you do that is beyond the simple stuff, and how often you would use it (do you fix computers everyday, or do you do it like a once in a while kind of thing?). The needle-nosed pliers might be useful. Some plastic tie-wraps might be useful to have, too. That exhausts everything I can think of with the PC. The wrench with bits would be liability, IMO, simply because the bits could be lost or forgotten if you take your kit to work on a PC elsewhere - besides the regular screwdriver is much cheaper. Also, keep a collection of various screws, standoffs, etc, around. I have mine in a small pill bottle. As far as outside of the PC itself goes, it has paid for me to have a RJ-11 crimper along with the ends. In this day and age, I'd like to get a RJ-45 crimper and ends as well, but I haven't been able to locate a tool that I like for that end (that isn't $50). Then of course, a knife or other stripping or cutting tool would be useful as well as an outlet tester, in case you need to check that to debug a problem. Pay mind, though, that the key question of what kind of tools you'll want for what you do will be paramount - if you have the electronics knowledge to work on power supplies, I'm sure there will be a whole new set of tools. I'm just thinking of all the PC oriented stuff that I've ever done.
  13. How would I find out in my program (API call perhaps?) how to find out how much time it takes to draw one complete screen on the monitor?
  14. I don't think so, and actually I would hope not. This would be the malicious web hacker's ultimate dream.
  15. The bigger monitor is generally a better thing, but the two things I think you would need to look at as well are resolution (bigger the better, and yes less scroll bars generally) and response time (lower the better). What you will find in the market will be much better (like night and day) than your 15".
  16. As was described, there's nothing mystical about it. In fact, you had it earlier (mostly). dim flag as integer Private Sub cmdADD_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdInstall.Click 'this is to see what check boxes are check, then install selected programs flag = 0 If ckff.CheckState = CheckState.Checked Then Shell("firefox.exe", AppWinStyle.NormalFocus, True) flag = 1 End If If ckFlash.CheckState = CheckState.Checked Then Shell("flash.exe", AppWinStyle.NormalFocus, True) flag = 1 End If If ckQuickTime.CheckState = CheckState.Checked Then Shell("quicktime.exe", AppWinStyle.NormalFocus, True) flag = 1 End If If ckVlc.CheckState = CheckState.Checked Then Shell("vlc.exe", AppWinStyle.NormalFocus, True) flag = 1 End If If flag = 0 Then msgbox("Please Select A Item To Install",4128,"Select Item") End If End Sub
  17. because in logic, elseif is an exclusive choice: either, or, not both. You need to drop the elseif constructs and then run each in sequence. if checkbox is checked then run install ... Use a flag var to check whether a box has been checked for your "nothing is checked" message box.
  18. They are on build #3311, and released it again to the public. Though you have to go through Windows Update to be able to get it from a public standpoint. 1) You need to be running Service Pack 2, so uninstall SP3 RC1 if you have the old public build (or any other build). 2) Download this script, which makes SP3 RC2 appear in Windows Update 3) Then download it off of Windows Update.
  19. Actually not quite right again. I'm live on the newest build: 3311. I had to go through the automatic update applet to install it, but I'm running it now.
  20. Which was just made publicly available. I do not see a full installer of it, but there is a script they made available to make it show up in Windows Update to those who have Service Pack 2 (yes uninstall SP3 if you already have it on there). Download XP SP3 RC2 script change for Windows Update here Hopefully a full installer link can be located soon. Edit: I just tried going to Windows Update, no SP3 RC2 upgrade there...maybe it's too new or something isn't working quite right? Edit Again: Nevermind I see it in there now. RC2 3300 published 02/19/2008 65.6MB Hopefully though, the full installer can be posted from somewhere.
  21. If the Kingston flash drive doesn't claim U3 support, then you won't be able to do it. A flash drive specifically has to claim support of U3 to be able to function with it (something to do with the controller in it), so you won't be able to "install it" to the drive.
  22. Here's a 1st release. I haven't run into issues myself, but by all means let me know how things go if you try it, either way. copy it into the Windows\System32 directory (if XP) or Windows\System (if 98/ME) to install.
  23. Of course, the big thing to remember is the professional malware folks are coming up with toolkits, so the kiddies are picking that up and making little modifications. Just the nature of the beast, especially on Windows. If you have the toolkit in your hands, it doesn't take much knowledge or effort to make use of it. That's Windows programming for you, in fact. For example, instead of learning TCP/IP and HTTP to download a file over the Internet, just get the toolkit that does that and use it. Not a surprise, really.
  24. The two files you named are AMD processor drivers.
  25. Have you tried this on an install of DosBox, or an install of DOS through a Virtual Environment product, such as VirtualPC?
