  1. Where did you get the 90% figure?
  2. Not true.My notebook came with Ultimate 64 bit. I've got like 5 programs I like that I cannot use since they do not run under 64 bit. iTunes does not recognize my burner as a burner, just a regular CD/DVD player under 64 bit, but does recognize it as a burner under 32 bit. So the choice was clear, I needed to get a 32 bit Vista. I was given a 32 bit Ultimate disc & was told the same thing, that my key would work. Not a chance, my key does not validate the 32 version I have. I did the clean bloatware free install, added only the necessary drivers, wifi, quickplay, updated nVidia & wireless mouse. I started getting "this copy of windows is not validated errors & had the call MS, re enter key or reinstall Windows errors" & I have a legit disc! So now I have to go back to my 64 bit version, or buy a 32 bit version to get its specific key.
  3. Your right, I didn't search, not because I didn't want to, but in the short time I've been here I've been reading & trying to take in as much info as I can and far as this topic went, I wasn't exactly sure how to word my search which is why I asked for help.Far as jcarle, I posted 2 different things in 2 different forums & did not double post, which was my beef with his "do not double post" comment. Far as not helping out, not good in anyones eye for any reason. Far as unattended goes, I appreciate the link but I had not read enough or learned enough to know what exactly unattended is about & did not want to look really stupid asking. I'm still new here & looking to learn, am a mod on some auto forums & I know how to use search but I am a bit "lost" here with the new wealth of PC info so please don't beat me up too bad. We are all new at one time where ever we go. In time I'll be a great member & contributor here. Thanks.
  4. If you can't answer the question properly, please do not answer. For your information I did not double post. Fizban, you locked the other post for no reason. I posted in the Vista & XP sections because I have 2 notebooks, one with each OS & I posted in each section asking about that sections OS, so how is that considered a double post? Re-read each & you'll see that each is in their prospective section with the XP one clearly asking about XP & the one in Vista clearly asking about Vista. So that is not a double post even though each is worded nearly the same with just the last word being different. A double post would be posting the same exact thing, verbatim, which I did not do. So Fizban, please open the Vista one as I do not know if the procedure is the same or not, if there is one, for each OS.
  5. I hope I'm wording this right. Are there files that can be backed up & reinstalled so one doesn't have to go through the activation / validation process every time you change hardware or reinstall XP?
  6. Where is this file & how do I use it??
  7. What's an AutoIt program & what's it do?Oh, & since 2 replies have the same results, I'm sure my 64 bit ultimate will be the same as well.
  8. My key is tied to 64 bit & to name just a few:iTunes won't recognize the CD burner, but does recognize it as a player! Netscape 7.2 shuts down when flash or any other 3rd party add on is installed. PC Tools Spyware doctor not 64 bit supported PC Pitstop optimize not 64 bit supported Linksys wireless N USB not 64 bit supported Ulead photo impact not 64 bit supported And these are just a few, but a needed few! I do have the recovery disks I made with my "old" dv9220 that had Vista Premium 32 bit installed before I returned it but I forgot to write down the product key! Think HP will send me a duplicate key? I did register the notebook with them when I got it.
  9. Here's an odd occurrence of driver dates & versions. The nVidia driver that came with my notebook is dated 2/10 & is version 7.15.11.65. When Windows told me there were new updates & the video being one of them, I opted for it. When it was installed it was dated 02/27 7 the driver version was 7.15.10.9815! What gives with that? Thanks!
  10. Allot of programs I want to use aren't supported with 64 bit windows. A pal of made me a copy of his clean 32 bit Ultimate DVD. I have a few questions. Probably the most asked: Is the key on my notebook tied only to 64 bit Ultimate? Is it tied to bundled Ultimate, Or will it work with any version, including a full version of Ultimate? Will the only drivers I need be the video card, touch pad & the quick reference keys? Anything I else I should know/do before making my 64 machine a more useful 32 bit machine? BTW, my notebook is a an HP dv 9225 with the Turion 64 X2 CPU & nVidia 7600 video card. Thanks!
  11. My HP came with 64 bit Ultimate & I also got that anytime upgrade DVD.So what's in it, what's it for & should I use it? I haven't touched it since I thought I didn't need to being I have Ultimate.
  12. And my "160" GB drive is really only 148 GB.
  13. ipods will sometimes display the "do not disconnect" even after safely ejected.
  14. Hi all, in IE7 on all message forums I visit when I try to insert a hyperlink I get a popup saying "This website is using a scripted window to ask you for information. If you trust this website click here to allow scripted windows." Of course if I click the information bar to allow, it's only temporary. I never had this popup before IE7. So how do I disable this setting as it's very annoying. Oh, I'm using Vista 64 bit if it matters. Thanks.
  15. So does anyone know if these #'s actually mean anything? I mean, what is good & what is "bad"?
  16. I just tried to install a few other older programs, like Ulead photo Impact, I like it better than the bloated Photoshop, & get the same error.Obviously getting a 32 bit OS is futile with HP, so how does one configure a virtual install? Or, there's no way around installing older programs under 64 bit, at all? It's not backwards compatible?
  17. Thanks, here's my score on an HP dv9225, AMD 2.0 GHZ, 2 gig of RAM, nVidia GeForce Go 7600 256 MB video running Vista Ultimate 64 bit:
  18. Here's one for you guys. I just installed XP on a pals PC, no problems, I've done this type of install numerous times on numerous PC's. But when I got through with all of the updates I now have the user logon screen. I do not have the system password protected & I don't see an option to bypass the logon screen & go directly to the desktop. So how do I make XP SP2 go to the desktop? Funny thing is when I got SP2 on my notebook it didn't do this! Thanks
  19. How do I save my score as a .jpg to post? I've tried to rightclick & highlight to save what I see to no avail.
  20. I have an old Win 95 program I still use because I prefer it & it worked great for 98, 98 SE & XP. Now trying to install it under Vista Ultimate 64 bit it won't let me. My error message is: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, then contact the software publisher." Needless to say, support for this software, Norton Navigator, has long since been discontinued. Yeah, I still use it because I like it better than Explorer. So how does one install older programs under this 64 bit OS? Thanks.
  21. I have an HP dv9225 with Ultimate 64 bit. I'm pretty PC knowledgeable yet no matter what I do my notebook has insomnia. Nothing is set to wake the computer yet when I press sleep it goes through the motions & when it shuts down, it does it only for a split second then fires right back up. When the computer goes to sleep according to the power plan settings it also does the same thing mentioned above. So anyone have a clue as to why it's doing this? Thanks.
  22. Found this site while doing Vista searches. I can't believe I never found it before! I plan to post allot to show how "stupid" I really am! Seriously, this forum is great form what I've seen in the one day I've been here so far! I do believe being here will help make me learn my new Vista 64 bit really well & help me tweak my "old" XP notebook as well!
