issues installing Windows XP from a network share with BartPE
Jazkal replied to Glass's topic in Windows PE
And I've seen those kinds of errors (after doing tests on 1000's of servers), when the system RAM has some small problems. Don't know the details of the RAM problem, but just switching out the RAM fixes the problem. I'm not saying this is your problem, just another reason that I have seen those kinds of errors. -
anyone have the 1.bmp file that page talks about?

And just FYI, devcon does not work on WinPE x64. Or at least I can't get it to work.
-
I use devcon to parse out the devices on the system, then compare to a database, to figure out what image to use. I wanted to use the manufacturer and model, but we have white box servers we have to support (without this info). So we used devcon. If you have all branded hardware, the manufacturer and model idea is a good one (IMO).

If you have a RunOnceEx.cmd file already with items in it, then you are almost there. You will need to install AutoIt (whatever version the script needs), and compile the script to a EXE file. Once you've done that, put it with all your other apps. And add an entry into the RunOnceEx.cmd.

Installing Win2000,Win2003 using HP Scripying Toolkit
Jazkal replied to p4ntb0y's topic in Windows PE
remove the product ID And nothing just jumps out at me that could be wrong. I have HP's being installed through WinPE, and they all work fine. The only major difference I see, is that my RAID configs are all taken care of before I start off my processes. -

Can you describe what exactly is in these folders? -
TonyPE, very interesting tool. I will give it a look, and run it through some tests. Just a quick question, how many of the switches from winnt32.exe have you imported into this script? Would you consider releasing the code as open source?

BartPE, PXE and Unattended Installs over aNetwork
Jazkal replied to ooky's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
what was your BartPE source from? XP, 2k3, 2k3 SP1? -
the command line I use: format c: /fs:ntfs /V:MAIN /y or you can add /q for a quick format

Ok, I have tested the SFC hacked file, and it does work. The TERMSRV file was removed from the package, because it doesn't work. Terminal Services won't even start with this file. But I do want to thank DT for the other files.

creating partitions from dos, I use gdisk.exe. It is a partition tool from Symantec, comes with ghost. If you don't have that then you can use some other ones, not sure which, because I haven't used DOS is at least 2 years, moved everything to WinPE to do what you describe, easier to work with IMO.

DisabledTrucker has sent me a package of patched files, and the HIVE modifications. I have posted these in the first post. These files include: SFC_OS.DL_ TCPIP.SY_ TERMSRV.DL_ UXTHEME.DL_ I have not tested these myself, but will come Monday. Thanks DisabledTrucker

Have you tried these files in a non nlite source? These work? I was under the impression that nlite used a different meathod to disable SFC.

using that link gave me this error: "Sorry, the link that brought you to this page seems to be out of date or broken" I sent you a PM

Keep getting setup as Administrator
Jazkal replied to reido113's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
There are two things you need to do that I can think of, off the top of my head. 1) Remove the auto login reg settings 2) Create the new user account To remove the auto login keys: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon AutoAdminLogin = 0 DefaultPassword (delete this entry) To create a new user, I use the following: %SYS32%\Useradd.exe \\%COMPUTERNAME% %NEWUSER% %NEWPASS% “Main User” Administrators -
I know this might be a stupid question, but when you built the PE image, did you do it with the /ADO switch?
-
How can I do this? Have you created a WinXP 32bit unattended CD/DVD before? I have the Feb CTP of Vista, but the DVD doesn't seem to have anything related to PE on it. Am I missing something? Longhorn uses WinPE2 to do the install. WinPE v2.0 is in the boot.wim. I haven't played around with it that much, but I know there are other threads on this topic.
-
Make a WinXP x64 Unattended CD/DVD. That works just fine. If you are trying to create a WinPE CD to install x64 over the network, then your only option is WinPE 1.5 or 1.6 or WinPE 2.0. v1.5 or 1.6 is only available to certain customers. But v2.0 is part of Longhorn/Vista. It should be easier for you to get your hands on. I think you can get WinPE (not sure which version) is you have SMS installed.

I had that problem, found a solution that worked for me. It was my nVidia drivers. Had to downgrade to a lower version (don't remember which version, I can check tomorrow). EDIT: I checked the version of the nVidia drivers that fixed this problem on my install. I'm using version 6.6.9.6

As far as I know, no one has hacked the SFC file yet. I was just looking last week. And the only way that I have heard as a workaround, is to minimize or disable the SFC caching. Haven't seen a howto on that though. Let me know if you find anything.

And I can verify it works under x86 and x64 WinPE 2005.
