  1. BigFix, a leading provider of vulnerability management solutions! Dunno, Are you using the program? Keeping up to date? Having problem with it? The web site is here: BigFix Maybe you could explain your particular situation with this program. Treeman
  2. Spinman, I have the same drive ala external USB. I would constantly get write delay error messages also. What I did to fix this was to hook up the drives power cord to a surge strip with on/off switch. Turn on external drive and let it power up so only green indicator light shows. Then turn on main computer. For some reason if the drive starts up when you power on with the computer together, the info from the external drive isn't read / written to by the OS in time = write delay failure. Hope this helps, Treeman
  3. Hmmmm, I don't understand Mac OS, but here is a support page from MS that might help: Knowledge Base Treeman
  4. Can't figure this simple problem out. I like the view > status bar enabled in IE. Seems like it never want's to stay put. When I close IE, the next time I open it the status bar is gone. Not a big problem, since I go to the menu and enable it again. Is this a feature or a bug? Thanks, Treeman
  5. Glad you found that "tweak!" What led you to the fix? Treeman

  7. Hi Stingy, Their are applications that will let you do what you want. If it's just for a couple of files you can download a trial version, then nuke the install when your done. Here's one that may work for you: Universal Explorer Treeman
  8. For a system to utilize Hyper-Threading(HT) Technology, it must have these elements: --Intel Pentium 4 HT processor running at 3.06 GHz or greater --chipset that supports HT Technology --system BIOS that supports HT Technology and has it enabled --operating system that includes optimizations for HT Technology. If the processor that you have does not support this feature, it is better to have the feature turned off. Ala Intel, so if you can't turn it off in the bios, are you sure that your computer has this feature? Treeman
  9. I imagine that you don't want to reinstall VIRobot, since that's the program that contains your missing dll, not Outlook. Treeman
  10. Fatalwoomera, Check out the MCaffe solution at: Here Treeman
  11. I wouldn't buy a Dell or Gateway either but that's all I have to work with! As far as the specs you can find them here: Gateway E4600 Now don't barf, I know it has ME on it and I would have upgraded it to MS Bob if I had a copy of it. This upgrade to XP is for a buddy. The computer has 640mb. of rdram, a speedy 100mhz. f.s.b., and a Plutonium 4, 1.4 Cele. I'm hoping that all the drivers included with XP will solve most of my misery, but then remember, this is a Gateway. The parts that are included in the case may not meet anyones requirements! So 3rd party drivers may self destruct things like the video card, nic, etc. Just wanted to know if this upgrade to XP could be done without suicide being involved. Thanks for any help, Treeman
  12. Hi Folks, I went to the Gateway support page trying to figure out if this machine will support a larger H.drive (WD 1200jb) The system serial # is: 0023324747 ala 1.4gz. Celeron board with rdram. The web page shows that upgrade for $200 bucks! (newegg.com $89) The main problem is with the proprietary software/hardware on the mobo. This computer has Win Me on it, and I would like to put XP Pro on the new drive. The drivers listed for the onboard controllers say they are not XP compatable. Will the install of XP get dorked if I use the older drivers, (Intel® Ultra ATA Storage driver) (Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility, version 2.60.001) or will XP load it's generic drivers for the board? What do you think would be the best stratagy for upgrading to XP, with what I have to work with? Thanks, Treeman
  13. I assume you have disabled the onboard video in the bios, and the video card will run at agp 4X? Treeman
  14. I use a seperate 80mm fan on a "L" bracket mounted to an unused mobo attachment point. I angled it to cool the ram, and force air flow towards my video card. It's cheap, and works just fine! Treeman
  15. Intel D875PBZ Rock solid, not much of an overclocker. my2cents, Treeman
  16. I know this sounds too easy, but in your mail account under servers, do you have to enable the: "Log on using secure server authentication," checkbox? Treeman
  17. Thank you George27 and Marsden, At least I now have a complete understanding of how and why there is a feature called Web/Clent! (MS doesn't tout this item very much) The reason I asked was because of a darker problem, whereas using the Disk Clean-up utility in XP, it generates an error message for my client involving mmc.exe The mmc error is displayed, and none of the Web/Client files are deleted. It's got me stumped. (I figured I could manually delete these files) Thanks for your in-depth explanation of how the Web/Client works. Maybe when I wake up tomorrow, the solution will unravel it'self. Treeman
  18. Thanks for trying to help. I've searched everywhere and can't get the answer to this question either! Must be someone out there that's curious, and smart enough to figure this one out. I'll post back if I find anything more. Treeman
  19. A simple answer will do! Where are the Web/Publisher files located? You see them when you use disk cleanup. Thanks, Treeman
  20. The answer for my choice is in my sig. Treeman
  21. Well let's see, I know . . . save another 200 bucks and go for the two 74gb Raptors! Raid/0 A third cheaper Ide hard drive can be used within Win XP with a application called Casper XP. Casper XP is not imaging drive software that makes you boot with .dos disks like Partition Magic. Nope, if your raid goes bad all you do is fix the array, connect the Ide hard drive as your 1st. boot device, and copy everything including the O.S. back from within a Windows shell. You can see the software here:Casper Xp I have a buddy that has two of the smaller Raptors and wishes he would have waited. The two I have scream, and are very stable. I bought them at Atacom.com without any hassle. I think I paid $208 each. IMHO, go for the gusto. Treeman
  22. I like Nod32 from Esat. Reported to be the only Av to catch 100% of viruses in the wild! And it doesn't eat resources like Norton does. Nod32
  23. Try disabling Xp's firewalls. It worked for me when I tried to set up a print server that I could access and print from my laptop. I could ping everything through my wap, connected to my router, just couldn't print. (turned off the firewall and bingo) I know there is a proceedure to open the ports you need for access, then turn Xp's firewall back on. Treeman

    Moving Day

Bashrat, Do you use the MS utility after or before you install the applications? I don't have much faith in MS making this easy. I just don't want to dork up a fresh install of XP. Thanks, Treeman

    Moving Day

Yes, it's that time for me. I will be downgrading one computer and building a new one. The downgraded computer will still have XP Home on it, and the new one will have XP Pro. That means migrating all my applications and files to the new computer from the old one. ( a headache many have gone through before me) I was wondering if anyone has tips or tricks for doing this right on the first attempt? ( I won't be using XP's migrating tools on a fresh install ) I think it should go something like this: Format to NTFS, Install XP Pro, 3rd party drivers, (raid) try to connect to the router and update XP Pro, Install applications, copy the contents of "My Documents" folder over to the new machine. The only sticking points for me will be tranferring OE email, 3rd. party apps. that "look" at the mac address to see if they are on the original computer, and file associations contained in the registry. Any tips, caveats would be appreciated! Treeman
