  1. [if you really wanted the best desktop right now, you would have already bought a G5 anyway, right?] Naw, I'm just hung up on the Mac's firewire stuff! Piece by piece I'll be getting there. "A PCTosh" Little things like Dual Raptor 10,000rpm, Sata / Raid / Striped 1/0 drives. A single Sata drive to 1394b bridgeboard, to Firewire 800. (for real-time DV rendering & backup.) 1mb ecc ddr extreme 400mhz. ram. All that's left is the mobo & cpu. The P4 3.4ghz, and 800mhz. FSB should do in a pinch I guess. Or maybe I'll wait a little bit longer . . . . . . . Treeman
  2. Just sitting around and waiting . . . I want to upgrade, but I want to have it all! Anyone hear any rumors about who/when mobo manufacturers will be selling the new stuff. I'm so tempted just to buy a 800fsb. mobo with the Northwood chipset because prices are low. I know as soon as I do that, the new stuff will come out the next week. (PCI Express, DDR2) I know Prescott sucks right now, but the new mobo will have the new cpu socket as well. What to do, What to Do! Treeman
  3. FYI, If you are a system builder I have some news that may clear things up. This is what MS describes a licensed system builder as: Licensing You have to register and log on with a .net passport to see the actual agreement. Seems that you will have to purchase at least a 3 pack of any software MS makes to get the OPK tools disk for that OS or Application to perform a legal install under the EULA agreement. I can see buying a 3 pack of the OS since it's a bootable application. I don't see why you would need a different OPK tools disk for a non-bootable application i.e., Office 2003. IMHO, if you have the OPK tools disk for the operating system, you should be able to download a plug-in that would piggyback on that tools disk, and allow any non system software install. But that's not how it works folks. Too bad, I would like to mix and match software without the overhead of buying 3 packs for each one. I just recieved a mailer from MS that they are cracking down on distributors in S. California. Make sure you buy your MS software from one of thier Certified Distributors. Take this message for what it's worth to you. I just don't want to be on the wrong end of the beating stick! Treeman
