Instead of using the old gurglemeyer package, install the lastest hotfixes right from msft. See the 2k update list that is stickied in this forum for the hotfixes required.

Gluon - Every PC and what people want to use is all different. Sounds like you need a file that I don't. Here's what you can try. Go through the reducers and locate the problematic binary. Search for msyuv.dl (notice that the last letter is omitted). Then you can either remove that reducer, or you can remove that particular line from the reducer. The reducers are all text files. Good luck!

Those entries most likely stem from AAOs. I don't use AAOs and I don't have blank entries. If the blank entries bug you, may I suggest to either not use them, manually edit the hfslipwu.inf file, or use a hfsip_post_xxx.cmd file that automates it. I don't plan on modding the script to remedy this.

What happens when you manually install the program?
-
There may be other methods of swapping the setup files. I only posted a working recipe. IIRC, both modded setup files are needed for hfcleanup to work. Perhaps there is a way to use only one file but I wasn't ambitious enough to try more variations after I got everything working. On a plus side, I'm glad that someone is using hfcleanup. It took a while to get it all working. My OS is rock stable here.

My2GirlsDad - A thread was started the other day on this same issue. Long story short, it was discovered that the hotfix isn't really supported by hfslip because WU is expecting new files on your PC. A suitable workaround is to use the HFSVCPACK_SW1 folder. I sent FDV an update for the 2k hotfix list yesterday that says the same.
-
Yep, looks like msft is just rolling out new and additional binaries to make WU happy. If you don't use wordpad, then you'll be fine without the hotfix. Or, just set up your winnt.sif file to not load the optional component and you'll be OK too. Actually, the main prob is putting files in the program files folder. Slipstreaming files to there takes lots more legwork than putting them in some windows folder. If I get time, one day I may roll the change in to keep WU happy for the 2k users. Then again, and it's the more likely case, I probably won't have time to roll it in. HFSLIP ain't paying the bills.

I did a little investigating. The files that are copied aren't part of the original source. It's comparible to XP's wordpad.inf though. Whatever the case, wordpad is an optional component. Modifying the code would take a little too much effort for very little payoff. For now, place that hotfix into HFSVCPACK_SW1 and you'll be ok. It will get installed at T-13.

Please check the KB973904 log in the windows folder on the machine where you manually installed it. Maybe it will list what files are replaced when the hotfix is run. Thanks for the tips on the other hotfixes. I haven't used 2k in a few months now. The 976749 hotfix seems strange. The articles say two different things. Whatever the case is, hfslip will place the latest files into the final sourcess folder.

Thanks again dude. I found a typo. All should be fixed now, or at least I hope it is.

Thanks for investigating the error Acheron. New beta is posted up.
-
Kiki - Thanks for the info, but you had provided the info I need a few days back when you moved the file. For some reason, that particular hotfix adds a new file to the OS. For me, that only means that the HF is not needed. To all - New beta is up. Test away and report back. I can't make a final until I hear more (or even some) feedback.
-
Can you put a wildcard before each of the checked filenames? I segregate XP's ie hotfixes with "IE6-" and optional hotfixes with "opt-" so I can do various test scenerios. Thanks!

For what it's worth, WU just looks for the existance of mrt.exe in sys32.exe to be satisified that the MRT tool is installed. This is why I consider this non-essential. Yea, I know hard drives are cheap now, but I don't see the point of just having a file there taking up space.
-
Can someone move the ftpsvc2.dll from sys32 to the sys32\inetsrv folder and revisit WU and see what happens?
-
I have never used this feature and this feature should still work. Tomcat added this a while back for some unknown reason. I was uncertain how to use it then, and I didn't really see the point of the whole thing. A few extra files didn't bug me. The files get deleted in the end of installation anyway. No harddrive space is used in the windows\inf folder. I suppose the best way to tread the waters is to review each and every hfslp###.inf file. If you see nothing of importance there, you can put it in noreg. There are many hotfixes that just need one entry in the registry that keeps WU happy. There are minimal hotfixes that add lots of info into the registry, and those should remain in the hf folder.

Yep, FDV and I were both forced to convert over. Congrats to FDV for making things official too! Not to hijack FDV's thread, but I suppose his fileset and my fileset are both belated Christmas presents from both of us. For me, I had fun exchanging info with FDV with various non-essential ideas and some essential ideas. We even coined a new word while we were both testing our filesets away.... we called it isosizing.

I suppose so, but I don't plan on incorporating switches for that. It's not the intent of HFSLIP to install everything under the sun. HFSLIP's intent is to install the OS only. You can create CMD/INF files and place them HFSVCPACK. Using that, you can do whatever post-install stuff you need to do. Those commands get parsed at T-13. I do suppose however, that you can manually edit the setup files after hfslip is run. But you'll be on your own there.
-
Hi Martin. Hope all is well. Unfortunatly I had to convert to XP and finally say goodbye to 2k. Because I loathed XP so much, I had to rip it a new orifice and generated/fixed the files for hfcleanup. It's mature enough for my box and the zip package posted at hfslip.org is the same files I use in my current real machine. This box seems faster than my 2k boxes and installs slightly faster. The only issue I have is WMP classic, but I think I have a way for that. The only time I can really test it out is the next real install. My iso is 160 meg which includes all drivers and codecs and ie core. Without codecs, the install is about 110-120 meg. The goal was to fit on a mini-cd. The goal was achieved. Remote desktop = remote access to your computer. Personally I prefer to not have someone peek into my machine. I'd recommend to remove remote desktop. I'm sure there is a way to do it with a winnt.sif. I just hfcleanup and don't let it install at all. Thanks for answering your own Q on the AV program. I always wondered why it would never install for me.
-
I'd suggest to remove the non-essentials (i.e. the 961742 and xpize) and find the offending hotfix. Perhaps the extra non-supported files aren't ie8 friendly. Walk before you run.
-
This file sounds strange to me. I think you are trying to slipstream something that you are not supposed to. Please double check your hotfixes against mimo's or muppet hunters lists and delete the offending hotfix(s).
-
I had to reorder a few things to make the script more friendly if using hfcleanup and slipstreaming drivers. Most people don't use hfcleanup. So the wm11 codecs is only a small part. If one wanted the WM11 codecs and not the WMP11 player then this version will do it. Previous versions were not capable of it. I do not believe that you can have WM9 and WM11 codecs at the same time though with this version (and I won't fix that either). Personally I use hfcleanup, wm11 codecs, slipstreamed drivers/codecs and my resultant ISO is 160 meg. Without codecs and special things I slipstream, the ISO is about 130 meg. I was not able to do this with the latest "official" release. To all - Please test and tune and try the various cab options. If I don't hear anything then I'll make it a new final. Thanks
-
First off, please use the normal font. It is not necessary to use 50 font when asking questions. HFSLIP is used to slipstream hotfixes - it is not the intent to use HFSLIP to create all your software needs. The program you are talking about is not a core OS component. Look in the unattended forums for the appropriate switches to install your program.
-
IIRC, there were some language issues, not all languages would slipstream correctly. You gotta love how msft remains inconsistent with their hotfixes.
-
You can change the silent switch commands of the script. Nothing will break. The switches are only used for svcpack/sw type folders.
