  1. Oleg, using only the setupapi.dll will let the windows install without a hitch. But there will be empty residual folders in the Program Files folder. Other than that, it will operate the same.
  2. TC - Are you sure your smartbase exe is correct? When I extract mine, I do not have the quartz.dll file there. Here's what I have when using the /x to extract it: axaltocm.dll basecsp.dll bcsprsrc.dll empty.cat ifxcardm.dll pintool.exe spmsg.dll spuninst.exe spupdsvc.exe I think you're quartz problem lies somewhere else. It really doesn't appear to be hfslip related.
  3. As of now, HFSLIP doesn't slipstream this. I could look into it in a little while. For my own education, what is the difference between this dx9c and the dx9c redistributable?
  4. TC, I'm a dunce. I can't figure this out. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms05-050.mspx In the system information box, it says that w2k with dx9 needs 6.5.1.907. With XPSP2 you need version 6.5.2600.2749. I'm not sure what you are using to test, but my hfnetchk says all is OK. MSBLA has all reported OK too. Remember, I'm working with an english version. Do you think that your localized version would need a different version?
  5. Do you think that downloading problem would happen if they were running unix servers?
  6. With w2k, if you call a silent regedit, you must specify the entire working string to regedit for it to run correctly (ex %windir%\regedit.exe /s and not regedit.exe /s). After you are in the first logon, you can run a simple regedit /s reg.reg. This is not an issue with XP. BTW, why not just put your regedit files in hfsvpk folder and let hfslip take care of it for you automatically? No need to repack anything.
  7. TC, QUARTZ.DLL: there is a tricky directx update that came out a few months back. Check to be sure you have the correct version. There was an issue with it when it was released, and microsoft silently re-released it. The one to download depends on what you are slipstreaming. If you are using w2k and are slipstreaming dx9, then you need the hotfix for dx9 & w2k. You may want to run HFSLIP without adding in your switchless programs. As I mentioned before, the current 1202 hfslip does not slipstream the smartbase fix. This smartbase fix ADDs additional files to the source. Give me a few days to troubleshoot the next release. Also, are you sure it doesn't extract using the /x switch? I could have sworn it worked for me. BTW, why is this "recommended" fix so important?
  8. TC - Please read post #9 of this thread. Try uncabbing the svcpack.inf and copy/paste the hfslip.cmd file so that it happens after installing your programs. Report back issues/findings. Thanks!
  9. Don't use yahoo messenger. Use GAIM. It does all of those message type programs in one. Sorry for being off-topic.
  10. Check this out: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms05-019.mspx You can't download the hotfixes.
  11. The regedits are parsed before installing programs. Should I make it the other way around? It doesn't really matter to me because I don't use hfslip to install programs.
  12. What hotfixes are not slipstreamed correctly with HFSLIP?
  13. /active:yes enables the account. If you changed it to /active:no, it would create the account but the user would not be able to sign in. There is another command called cacls which is used to set file/folder permissions. If you are going to set permissions on a folder that had previous permissions set, you need to clear the permissions first and then set them up to your liking.
  14. @FDV - I'm not sure what Oleg said in his PM, but please do not cab the files. The format of your IN_ files is fine. If you decide to cab the in_ files instead, HFSLIP won't work.
  15. Seems like you answered your own comment. If there is a need for this, perhaps someone will craft the code for it. I always thought that you need to modify the dosnet.inf or layout.inf or txtsetup.sif for scsi drivers.
  16. If you want to delete those 3 files and remove them from syssetup, txtsetup and others, use a REM file instead. RIN files are special cases and are tricky to work with. I'll have to revisit my notes on the RIN stuff. When I made those reducers a few months back, there wasn't much enthusiasm for it, so I brushed it aside.
  17. The reg tweaks you make are made to the default user, there is no such thing as the administrator when the reg files are parsed. In other words, the admin account is created after the reg files are parsed, so the admin will pick up these fixes. BTW, these lines are run a few minutes before the OEM/CMDLINES part of installation. Lotsa goodies for a reg file: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=49320
  18. I'm working on HFSLIPing the requests. The smart card is easier than the msi one. I think I'll just svcpack the msi one for now. I'll let someone else write code to slipstream it.

    Remove WMP10

By slipstreaming WMP10, you are slipstreaming/adding LOTS of extra bloatware (or is it malware?) that comes along with WMP10. I think it was a dozen or so extra files AND 4 or more inf files (one of those has an uninstaller). The INF file with the uninstaller is NOT resident on PC after installing from sourcess. You need to go into the hfslip'd installation cd and locate the correct HFSLIP__.INF file that uninstalls WMP10. The actual name of the hfslip__.inf file depends on how many hotfixes you slipstreamed. My advice, start from the high numbers and work back. You'll probably need to modify the inf file for the uninstall to work though. But to answer your Q, I doubt that HFSLIP alters the original WMP.INF, but if in doubt, open the sourcess\i386 and look at the filedate. If the filedate is the same as the other repacked binaries, then yes, HFSLIP did modify it. Sorry to be vague with the answer.
  20. adunphy - I have an idea for the DX9 with the beta. Can you attach your error_report log? I'd like to see the hotfix listing. Also, if you left mouse click the cmd window while it's running, it will pause.
  21. Oleg, As long as the string of characters is unique enough, you should be OK. Perhaps placing ;_'s in there for the first case would be acceptable. All I can really say is give it a try.
  22. Are you getting the errors with the beta version of HFSLIP?

  24. Great point Crash & I feel the same way. Oleg, can you cram all your posts into one so I can delete the one-liner posts? Thanks!
  25. What are your NLITE settings? Can you attach your nlite settings ini file?
