  1. (Let me start out by saying that I mean absolutely NO disrespect to anyone here, but instead dedicate this to all of those who are tired of all of the "my XP is better that your Vista, and my Vista can do more than your XP" garbage!) What I would really like to see most in the next version of Windows, is a version of Windows that is more widely accepted and not criticized every chance people get because it is different. To do that, it would have to be stable enough to figure out pi to the one-billionth decimal while I play a game and download from a torrent site at the same time, use NO memory and be able to run on a 333MHz processor while giving back emulated DX10 graphics on a GeForce2 MX400 video card (so nobody can complain). The newest version of Windows also must be perfect so that NO patches are required for it later on, unlike all of the current version of Windows and even MAC. It also must be free so I don't have to pay anything for it. OK, there you have it. My ideal look ahead of what the next version of should be like. (Hey, you asked.)
  2. PLEASE NO KISSING!!! lol Glad that I could help though. I found out the hard way once that the older SP3 betas and RCs acted up like that. They did not include support for HDA and it was almost impossible to get Realtek sound to work if SP3 was already installed. (Regardless of whether you nlited the install or did it the old fashioned way. If SP3 was installed before the audio drivers, then audio didn't work.) So, been there, done that, is the right way for me to put it.
  3. I personally would much prefer to use Vista, but unfortunately, SP1 doesn't play nice with Skype, so I'm stuck with XP. Before I started using Skype, Vista had always been stable for me, and in the year+ that I used it, I only had 1 BSOD, and that was a bad video driver early on. I can't say the same for XP, which crashes on me fairly often.
  4. If you're going to use SP3, make sure that it is v5503. None of the other releases support High Def. Audio, so you won't have any sound. SP3 v5503 does support HDA, and it should be OK to slipstream it into nLite as far as your sound problem goes.
  5. It's still only a single CPU. The EULA means no more than two individual CPUs by themselves.
  6. In order to run any themes other than the stock Luna theme, you need to patch the uxtheme.dll or all you'll get is what your getting now. If you search for the patch for 3282, it will work with 3300.
  7. There are NO viruses in nLite. I have scanned it with Kaspersky and AVG and it is clean. I have a feeling that the code that nLite was written with can cause some virus scanners to throw a "false-positive".
  8. Also everyone should remember to ALWAYS back up their registry first, so just in case something does get "messed up", you can go back in and restore it. Thanks for all of the hard work put into creating these tweaks. They look pretty good!!!
  9. VistaMizer will also change the boot screen as well as the log in screens, and with the proper uxtheme.dll patch, you can even run themes. I know that it isn't an nLite add-on, but I did want to mention it because VistaMizer does give you the option of creating an .iso after you've finished with the mods and tweaking using nLite, so don't anybody get mad at me please for mentioning it here.
  10. A lot of games require a page file to be set up on the hard drive, even though Windows might not need it. Just something to consider.
  11. The same trick works for 2007 that worked for Office XP. Shut it down in msconfig, and then pull up the Task Manager and shut it down there. Next click on Start and then Run. type in Regsvr32.exe /u msimtf.dll and hit enter. Bring up the Run box again and this time type in Regsvr32.exe /u msctf.dll and hit enter. Both times you should see a dialog box to let you know that the file was deleted. Hit OK. That has worked for me so far.
  12. I managed to get it from MajorGeeks today. Do a Google search on RyanVM, and it was the first couple of results for me. I used the second download link listed at MajorGeeks, and got it in under a minute.
  13. About the only one I remember them releasing is the "Royale" and possibly a Zune theme. The rest require a patch, which is very simple to use and in fact, a lot of theme packs such as XPize patch the file automatically.
  14. If I remember correctly, XP is the oldest operating system that the C2D processors will support. They were "future-designed" and not compatible with older operating systems, and I've heard that it's partially because of the architecture of the processor iteslf. In a nutshell, if you are ever able to install 98SE on a C2D system and it runs correctly, consider yourself very lucky.
  15. I received mine yesterday, and installed both last night. Working great!!!
  16. Unfortunately, replacing the motherboard with a different one from what came with that computer, then that will make your recovery discs useless. Pretty much, anything that would make your current installation of XP require reactivation, will also render the discs useless. Those factory recovery discs are made specifically for the stock configuration of your computer. About the only thing that you can change is the amount of RAM and the power supply, most anything else will make the recovery disc into a nice coaster. About the only way out of it now, is to purchase a fresh copy of Microsoft MCE 2005. The upside of it is that right now, it's fairly cheap, and will most likely come with a Vista upgrade, which makes it a pretty good deal actually.
