  1. I would recomend trying Kerio 2.1.5. Get it from MDGx's site and read all the associated notes upon setting the rules which he also provides links to. It is also worth reading the threads regarding Kerio 2.1.5 on the Wilders Security Forums which contains much information on rule setting by various users. Try google for even more rules, there is a wealth on information on these if you are prepared to look for it. You can even import a ruleset from various sources as a starting point but look upon these as a starting point only. No firewall works straight from the box as everyones needs are different and Kerio has to be worked on but I found it by far the best. No noticeable effect here on performance on either my 98SE(Pentium 111 1Ghz) and my 98SE2ME(Pentium 111 1.4Ghz) boxes. Cannot comment on Antivirus as I dont run any. HTH
  2. Hi fortcollins, Flash 9.0.151.0 works fine on both my 98SE and 98SE2ME boxes but read the comments in this thread. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=125749 HTH
  3. If anyone is using Super AntiSpyware Free on 98SE, I would advise them NOT to update to Version 4.25.1012. This new version released in the past few days seems to run very poorly on 98SE, taking five to six times longer to open and freezing up upon downloading definitions updates. Sometimes it even takes Process Explorer a while to close the program. A look on the SAS Forum will show that this is not an isolated case with many 98 users reporting problems. Version 4.24.1004 works fine and continues to download definitions updates with no problem. If this continues and there should be no reason to expect it not to be the case then we will still have a least one decent malware scanner to work with after the recent demise of the Emsisoft A-Squared 9x version scanner. Whether this problem gets cured in a future version is unclear but we may well be looking at V.4.24.1004 being the last SAS Free version for 98 users that works. HTH Colin
  4. Hi dencorso, Just a quick thanks for the newer vxd files. All installed and working well on my 98SE2ME box. I did patch them all in a dos box as you described, however I chickened out working in dos at the hazardous bit. Seeing as none of these files are in use when viewing the desktop I worked with File Manager to rename the new vxd's after checking the version numbers were correct and transferred them one by one, after backing up the original versions to a floppy. Seemed less hazardous that way, for me at least. As an afterthought it would be even easier to "right click" on the newer vxd's if you have "Rename" and "Copy to Folder" in the context menu and transfer them that way. Thanks again,
  5. Malware/Trojan Scanner LAST - FREE - A-squared-Free V3.5.0.27 Anyone using this program DO NOT UPDATE after 17/12/08. Running update after this date will automatically download V4.0.0.21 of this which will NOT run on 98SE/ME. You will be greeted after the reboot with the ever increasingly seen( for us 98/ME users ) that this will not run on an unsupported system. V3.5 had 1,555,689 malware signatures it is possibly worth keeping those in a scanner that works rather than ending up with a non working scanner. HTH Colin
  6. Hi Rick, I am using version 9.0.151 on both my 98SE and 98SE2ME boxes. The "browse" button does NOT work on either the imageshock site or the Element-IT flash uploader demos in either FF 2.0.0.18 or Opera 9.62. I am keeping with 151 at the moment as I do not have any problems with this version on the normal sites I commonly use. However I still have versions 9.0.115, 9.0.124 and 9.0.47 on my programs partition on my second HD so I can re-install the 47 version if any problems arise with 151. HTH lightning slinger
  7. Flash 151 installed on IE6, FF2.0.0.17 and Opera 9.27 and seems to work fine on my 98SE and 98SE2ME boxes. I have not come across sites so far that displays problems with this new version but testing time has been limited. Thanks for the link blackwire.
  8. Hi noguru, Yes I believe your impressions of opera 9.50 are correct as much the same happened to me. First time everything locked-out I just put it down to a system glitch, although why I did not investigate it at that time I don't know. I have been running 98SE2ME since early 2007 and it has been faultless (thanks MDGX). Second time I took your advice and had the resouce meter running although I'm not one for having many tabs or windows opened at once, I was alarmed at how quickly the green on the resource meter turns to amber and even more alarmed at how quickly the amber turns to red. Then it's only a matter of time and having to open acrobat 5.1 to view a pdf on one page was the last straw for the PC and as you say only the reset button is available. I have since reverted to 9.27 and the resource meter usually hovers around the 74% mark after a similiar type of browsing. As Mijzelf says it,s "blazing fast" but for me the GDI resources problem outweigh that advantage. I see that 9.51 beta is out, perhaps things will improve given time.
