  1. Thanks Blackwar I did that and got just what you said I would. It is very criptic and I will have to do some reading to understand what its saying.
  2. O.K. I understand that, but lets say I am not on a router. How do I view my ports and is it possible to manipulate each port using XP.
  3. How do you manage ports.I am trying to do some online gaming and am having a heck of a time hooking up. On the help link they talk about ports that need to be opened. How do I view, open and close my ports. I have Windows XP.

  5. They are NTFS. When I do a custom install it only shows which programs not to install, not the drive to choose.
  6. I have a new copy of Microsoft Works Suite the includes other things like Picture-It and Money, etc... The problem is that it always want to install to my C drive. My hd is partitioned with a smaller C drive and I want it to install on another, larger drive. The setup screen does not seem to allow any other option. Can anyone suggest a work around. Thanks, Brad Seattle
  7. Hi, I'm using XP and I need to change the size of my drive partitions. I am using NTSF. I heard some refrences about the ability of one over the other to be repartitioned with 3rd party software. That got me thinking. What is the best file structure. Is there a place to go on the internet to read more about each and their general strengths and weaknesses
  8. I am using NTSF. I'm also too cheap to buy a program just to add a couple gigs to a drive and then never use it again. Are you telling me there is no way in XP to do this. Thanks
  9. Hi, I made 3 partitions on my 80 gig hd. I made my primary Windows "C" drive too small. I would like to make it a few gig's larger. Is there any way to do this in Windoes XP. I'm trying to install my new Windows Suite and the setup screen always takes me to the "C" drive. I cant seem to get it to look at the other drives. Thanks Seattle
  10. It locks up when I try to defrag. I have tried scan yet but I will. Maybe it will find something there.
  11. Hi, I have a 350mhz PII Gateway that my wife is using.I am running W98. Every once and awhile it locks up. Some times she will have to reboot and sometimes it just starts working again on its own.It also locks up regularly when she is on our DSL surfing. There it seems to come back to life more often without rebooting. Here is one other thing I notice. When I try to defrag, the screen locks up,but the mouse is still usable. I hit the ESC button and I get beeps. I then have to reboot. If at the blue screen I choose to go back to Windows I get a black screen with only partial things showing. I did MSCONFIG and am not loading auotexe.bat or config.sys. Can anyone help with this. Thanks Brad Seattle

  15. Hi, Here is my setup. I have 3 computer at home. My main system is a new ,fast computer running XP. My other 2 are good machines running W98. I have them all connected through a Linksys router. This system works great on the internet and for file sharing. What I want to do is at any terminal be able to get another machines desktop to come up on the machine I'm at and basically use a remote machine from the system I'm sitting at.Using only the applications from the remote machine. Is there any way to do this. Thanks, Brad
  16. Can someone tell me how to find the button that allows you to go directly to the desktop from the Taskbar. When I have my desktop covered I need to get to the desktop without minimizing the program on the desktop. Thanks, Brad
  17. Do I then setup my computer with a dial up modem and the regular DSL line?
  18. I did some more searching and found out that you cant do fax over a DSL line. You need a fax modem or a third party fax web site. Thanks for the reply. Brad
  19. Hi, I use a DSL line and I am trying to get my XP Fax program running. When I go to the setup under START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>COMMUNICATIONS>FAX>FAX CONCOLE it keeps asking me for the modem location. I have no modem. How do I get it to enable by recognizng my DSL connection. Also it won't see a printer. When I go to configure that it just stops and does nothing. Thanks
  20. Drewatrip, Thanks, I did everthing you said and it worked up to the point were the XP setup could not find the file. I really lost it then. I thought there is nothing on the harddisk now ,what could possibly stop the setup. I was really p***ed and out of the blue I thought maybe the disk is shot.Well I have 2 kids and they play on my desk sometimes. I turned the disk over and it had some kind of stick candy stuff on it. I cleaned it and the install went great.I really learned allot. I have one more question. I had no trouble installing and registering again. Other than my high morals, snicker, whats stopping anyone from putting it on another computer? Brad
  21. Hi, I'll try to make this short. I built a new computer. Asus MOBO, 1.8 cpu,new 80gig WD hd. I screwed up when I initialy installed my XP oem Home Edition and somehow hide 8 gigs of my harddrive in a partition I can't get to. Also I have never been able to get my Moviemaker to work. So I want to reformat and reinstall my XP. Here is what happens when I try to do this. If I reboot off my XP cd and go into setup, the XP setup stops and says it can't find the file:i386l_intl.nls, or something very close to that. So I get out of that,go to the XP desktop and put in the cd and try to install from the desktop just to see if I can get XP reinstalled incase I have a corupted file thats screwing up my Moviemaker. That would not help my partition problem. It then stops and says it can't install various other files that are .dll files and types that I don't exactly remember now but it says a person with advanced skills should only work in this area. So here is my problem. How the heck do I reformat my hard drive and get XP on again. Thanks Brad
  22. I have 2 computers one with XP, one with W98. I use a Linksys router that works great. I want to copy a cd on one machine and burn it on the burner on the other machine. I also have not figured out how to run a program like Outlook Express from one machine that is on the other machine so I can get mail and edit it from one to another. Also it seems like I cant run a program thats on one machine from the other, is that possible? Can someone either help or point me in the right direction for learning more about networking. Thanks
  23. I seem to have some hidden folders with files in them that I want to access. How do I reset the attributes on a folder that seems to be hidden. Thanks
