no1none Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 (edited) This is patched version for W2K with IE6:(5.0.3700.6690)Did u do this patch yourself and if u did what Offset and bytes did u change?Yes of course /edit/same as everyone else does:0x...088E6...14E1D ...14E2E9th byte in each; 0x01 -> 0x11Im running w2k on almost all of my machines. Is this 256-colors system tray enough for ya?:(replaced with screencap of running winamp with hi-col icon in systray)I Copied This to My C:\WINNT Dir, Nothing, I Use Taskman, and The Command Prompt to copy, did I screw up somewhere along the lines here?Well, this I cannot tell...It is from my w2k system [edit: ENGLISH W2K] (as in the screencap above) standard issue w2k pro with sp4 and ie6 (and all updates, but that doesnt matter)I dont know what ya did, but thats how i always do it the easy way:I copy patched explorer to \winnt directory as explorer.newrestart in safe mode with command promptrename original explorer.exe to explorer.ori (REN EXPLORER.EXE EXPLORER.ORI)rename patched explorer from explorer.new to explorer.exe (REN EXPLORER.NEW EXPLORER.EXE)restartand voila, it must work... (all ofcoz must be done with admin priviledges or as admin) so I dont know what you did there, used taskman to kill explorer process and replace old explorer with new explorer at command prompt? (thats what it seems to me from what you wrote) IMHO it should work too... did u rebooted? Didnt you have message from WFP about file missing or being wrong and it was relaced with "correct one" or something?edit/Reason for edit: Please do not post full sized images!hmmm... whats the deal with that LOL Edited May 15, 2007 by no1none Please do not post full sized images!
RYANMJ Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 uh-huh, that be exactly what i did, with admin privleges, but not in safe mode, ill try that

marxo Posted May 20, 2007 Author Posted May 20, 2007 I am still trying, it is undocumented for NT4 so it is a little harder.
no1none Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I am still trying, it is undocumented for NT4 so it is a little harder.Cool, I'll wait for you and do something else then (Ive found few USB1 & USB2 device drivers for NT4, I'm going to combine them to one "universal" USB driver for NT4 SP6
erpdude8 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 (edited) I am still trying, it is undocumented for NT4 so it is a little harder.actually, I think I may have just patched version 4.72.3612.1700 of explorer.exe for NT4. I figured if only one area in version 4.72.3612.1700 of explorer.exe for Win95/98 needed to me edited, it may also apply for the NT4 version. I got both the 9x & nt4 versions of explorer.exe 4.72.3612.1700 from the ie4shl95.cab and ie4shlnt.cab files of IE 5.x and modded them in XVI32 hex editor.I'll post up more info here to confirm my hunch later. I should've think of that too... Anyways, big thx! I will try it as soon as i do another NT4 box :-)My Explorer Info:Windows 2000 Professional SP 4Explorer Version: 5.00.3700.6690Thanks in Advance DudeThere's a newer explorer.exe file for Win2000 SP4 included in the KB324446 hotfix.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324446KB324446 has explorer.exe version 5.0.3900.6920does this one need patching too?I am 100% sure it DOES.Dudes at Msoft are too severely underpaid and overworked at fixing bugs to be distracted with such unimportant issues on their products such as proper icon's display PSPerhaps we should open a new thread - and have it stickified and closed - with all patched explorer versions in attachments for those who don't know how to do it?NT, 95, 98, 2000 all ver. need it, and AFAIR now we really have all versions finally patched (well, 5.0.3900.6920 needs to be patched too for sure, which Im sure someone will) Edited July 9, 2007 by no1none
marxo Posted July 12, 2007 Author Posted July 12, 2007 It is not a bad idea, but i think we might have some versions unpatched...
