blackmodder
I didn't know that was already posted before! If it was ,please post just the link to that place. My idea is to make the Xp Setup Process to had a miniplayer that allows you to listen music during the install process. It's there any preloading driver (like VGA driver who's loading every time at Setup process to show the images from winntbbu.dll correctly, and please excuse me if I wrong when trying to explain this) and let you to listen music during this process? Ponch
There is no such thing as a standard sound driver (as the standard VGA). So I think it is not possible. Even with Bart PE you can't have sound without ading your own drivers. + the sound would have to come from somewhere (100Meg on the cd ?) and you'd get borred of it quickly. + it would slow down the install 20%. jaclaz
Maybe it would be possible using the PC loudspeaker, the thingy that beeps when you boot the PC.Before sound cards, old PC's had a "real" loudspeaker fixed to the case and connected to the motherboard, that could be easily driven, newest ones usually have a piezoelectric one on the motherboard, so I really doubt they can emit anything but a beep. And also with the good ol' ones the quality of the sound was more like that of a 1930*s telephone line than that of a Hi-Fi.....jaclaz
phkninja
jaclaz- so how would you drive the speaker?? to actually get sound from the speaker you require hardware/software to decode the music stream and convert it to analogue data for the speaker. The problem arises in the fact that pc motherboards are not designed to allow you access to the decoder chips etc from outside an os and also even if you could drive the speaker, how can you integrate that into the setup process? jaclaz
@phkninjaJust to clear things a bit , first thing I usually do on EVERY system I use, is to strip or disable the sound card and speakers, as I use my PC's for work, and I like TOTAL silence when working. So I am actually the LAST person in the world actually wanting to "drive the speaker" .I replied to a however interesting idea by blackmodder that has been called impossible because of different drivers required for sound cards, simply stating that maybe it would be possible to drive the internal speaker, which, as far as I know, does work with generic drivers and has (limited) playing abilities:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_speaker(and links therein)It was normal in the time of DOS that games played music and even "talked" from the internal speaker, many later PC's equipped with Win9x didn't have a soundcard and there were programs to play (again, poorly) music from the internal speaker:http://www.ulihansen.kicks-a**.net/speaker/index.htmThis has already been done with Linux:http://linuxgazette.net/issue69/mathew.htmlhttp://linux.omnipotent.net/article.php?ar...197&page=-1V2OS guys announced some work on it:http://v2os.v2.nl/cgi-bin/v2wiki.py?show=PCSpeakerSo, it is possible. As said HOW to do it on WinXP setup is far off my knowledge and interest, and the quality of the sound will be anyway so bad that I don't think that anyone "in his mind" will ever take the time to find a way for doing it.jaclaz Edited April 14, 2007 by jaclaz
phkninja
i didnt say its impossible to drive the speaker, i said you need an os installed to drive it e.g. DOS, Win 9x etc. he wants to drive it while windows is installing, so he would have to patch the setup (the drivers would be installed after the blue screen as far as im aware so it should be possible). But the question is how to patch the installation to allow music to play
