Tomcat76
There's a new version out of the Roots Certificate Update (rootsupd.exe). The link I have in my Windows 2000 update list downloads a new file, but this one can't be extracted from DOS. So don't use it.I'm currently testing the one that Windows Update is downloading (with a GUID in the file name) on Windows XP. This one CAN be extracted from DOS.rootsupd_963ec3df48991128f4edd42c66f40f144720f759.exeLater, I'll test it on Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 as well. the_guy
The old link was also updated (should work on 2000). The link you posted should be for XP/2003.the_guy
Tomcat76
Yeah, that's what I said. But the new file in the "old link" can't be extracted from DOS so it can't be used.I tested the one with the GUID number on XPSP2 and it's working. I'm now going to test Win2K... Tomcat76
OK. The one for XP/2K3 doesn't work on Win2K. But there's apparantly another link; this is what Windows Update downloads on Win2K:rootsupd_fe44934fd80dd11fec2f0f9b24431658a4f6d589.exeThis one can be extracted from DOS, thankfully. Testing now....
XibaD
XP one seems to work in XP. I tried to slipstream it and worked successfully.
Tomcat76
The one for 2K (with the GUID number) is working on Win2K. I updated the dynamic Win2K list.
Super-Magician
Thanks for the info. Is the one for Windows XP a recommended update?
Tomcat76
It's optional, just like the one for Win2K.
Super-Magician
The one for 2K (with the GUID number) is working on Win2K. I updated the dynamic Win2K list....but are yet to update your signature. It's optional, just like the one for Win2K.OK, but are you planning to include it on your Windows XP list? I guess my question is 'does it appear on Windows Update?' You said Windows Update downloads a certain version, but I've never seen it on there. Are you referring to the Update Catalog? Tomcat76
...but are yet to update your signature. Done.OK, but are you planning to include it on your Windows XP list?Yes.I guess my question is 'does it appear on Windows Update?'It does for me.You said Windows Update downloads a certain version, but I've never seen it on there. Are you referring to the Update Catalog? No; the normal Windows Update site. Edited February 1, 2007 by Tomcat76
Super-Magician
OK, thanks. Didn't appear for me, but I'll include it anyway.
Super-Magician
I just noticed something. You posted this on January 31st. I posted my checksums on January 30th, and hadn't updated the Roots Certificate Update yet, but both my version and this newer one have the same checksum. Guess the 2K version didn't change after all...
Tomcat76
You're right. The one I'm linking to now is the same as the old one I had. There is a new version (containing binaries from Dec 2006 and Jan 2007) for Win2K which is downloadable from the link I USED to have in my hotfix list, but that one can't be extracted from DOS as I pointed out in the initial post. Luckily, Windows Update doesn't ask for it.I suppose I didn't bother or forgot to check the file dates in the 2K roots update I'm linking to now...
