Can't install nLite NTVDM error

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I just can't install nLite 1.3rc2. It says that The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

I've got a Win XP Pro 32bit

What's the problem?

Thanks

E.

I was getting the same error, and here's how I fixed it.

First of all, are you getting an error when you try to download it that tells you to do a "Save As"? That's what I did. I'm running Norton Internet Security. The minute I disabled that, I was able to click on the download link and download the application just fine and install it without the error. Try that, and let me know if it works.

I'm getting the same error. YOu said "disabled that" ???? Well, I don't have Norton Internet Security but I do have Norton 2006 anti-virus. So what do I disable? I tried turning off auto-protect and internet worm protection.

I know it may sound unreasonably aggressive :), but what you really should do would be to REMOVE any Norton crap and get some good apps:

Generally speaking since a few years Symantec apps are simply too complex and resource hogging to be of any actual use, but they do create more problems that any other average antivirus/antispyware tool.

I'm a paying customer. I pay $40 yr for Norton anti-virus. I have yet to see another anti-virus that really appealed to me. I tried kaspersky once and it froze up my machine.

I have no idea what this is but quite a few others have the same problem. This is the first time I've ever seen it.

Also, I'M UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD THE INSTALLER WITH INTERNET EXPLORER !!!! I'm sure these two problems are related. If you can fix it so I can download with IE , I bet I'll be able to install the program. I downloaded it with firefox but now it won't install. What's the deal?

It's your program. I'm able to install everything except your program. Explain that. And why can't I even download the installer with Internet Explorer? Maybe if you made it so people could download it, maybe the usage of your product would increase.

I just installed my VLC media player without a hitch. Everything else is fine.

I just downloaded it from softpedia and installed it just fine. Might want to look into your Mirrors on your site because they aren't very user friendly.

I tried downloading it with IE and firefox. Firefox was the only one that would download from your site and even then, I only got 1.66 KB file which wasn't even the full installer so I had to go softpedia to get it. Thanks anyway.

morph99,

You keep saying 'you' and 'your'. The owner of nLite is nuhi, so you should address your opinion to him. Most of us here are users just as you are.

I suggest you always check the MD5 he provides on your DLs of nLite. I have never had any trouble with nLite's main DL site or mirrors.

Enjoy, John.

Nlite's official site is http://www.nliteos.com . To download from the download section you need to set your browser to pass through "referrer header" information (some download managers and some browsers, depending on their configuration, don't set this, so downloading with them will not work). Maybe Norton also interferes with this.

This kind of s*** nuhi gets is so undeserved. You havent paid nuhi for anything afaik, but you pay norton for software which is commonly looked at as bloatmetohellandbeyond-ware. Jaclaz, that's not unreasonable, that would be logical.

I don't why Norton gets such a bad rap. Ok, yes, it is a little bloated but it's firewall is pretty **** good and has caught intruders many times. I pay them because every other AV program that I've used turned out to be s***.

Anyway, it wasn't Norton that was preventing me from downloading from your mirror. And I'm pretty sure it's not my McAfee firewall because I shut it off. I know it wasn't Norton because Norton wasn't even installed at the time yesterday when I tried downloading from your site. I think your site is broken. It could be the fact that my PC is an AMD AThlon. I really don't know. Yesterday, having done a complete re-install of Windows and only installing the McAfee firewall and nothing else, I still was unable to download from your site.

Sure, it is a possibility, or maybe it's because of DDR2 type of RAM.
