How to install media player 10 or 11 on Server 2003?

Featured Replies

it seems as if i cannot install media player 10 or 11 on my server 2003 SP2, is there a way to do this?

what is the error?

if it is an error about version.

Removing Version Checker for wmplayer10

download resource hacker http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/

extract the zip file where ever suitable open resource hacker (reshacker.exe)

open mplayer10setup file in reshack

expand the rcdata folder, expand vercheck

right click on the expanded eg. 1033

select delete and say yes

save and exit

now the installer has no version checker it should work assuming that the error was a version checker

this may not work on all versions of wmplayer10 setup

I'm pretty sure WMP10 installs with 2003 SP1. Since service packs are all inclusive it should be included in the SP2 beta/RC as well (unless they don't have it in the beta or RC builds).

how do i install it in compatibility mode on server 2003 sp2

Right click on the installation file and select Properties.

On the Compatibility Tab, check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" then select OS (in this case, Windows XP).

I installed MP11 by extracting the package and running the installers in XP compatibility mode. Everything seemed to go OK, but when I try to start Media Player, it tells me that the version number installed doesn't match the expected version and quits. Any ideas?

Ryan, I had the same issue on my wife's pc which is using windows xp. She never used media player and after update, it came with the same error as yours. I remember I had to clean every media player 11 entry in the registry and reinstall wmp11. It works flawlessly now. I think the error was because she never used windows media player before the update.

ok so you want windows media player 11 on server 2003? :P

just follow these steps in my guide and it should work. B)
