January 15, 200719 yr I'm pretty sure WMP10 installs with 2003 SP1. Since service packs are all inclusive it should be included in the SP2 beta/RC as well (unless they don't have it in the beta or RC builds).

April 11, 200719 yr I installed MP11 by extracting the package and running the installers in XP compatibility mode. Everything seemed to go OK, but when I try to start Media Player, it tells me that the version number installed doesn't match the expected version and quits. Any ideas?
April 11, 200719 yr Ryan, I had the same issue on my wife's pc which is using windows xp. She never used media player and after update, it came with the same error as yours. I remember I had to clean every media player 11 entry in the registry and reinstall wmp11. It works flawlessly now. I think the error was because she never used windows media player before the update.
