gville Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 I Have been backing up (exporting) the resistory in WinXP PRO sp2. Using option "Registration files (*.reg)There hasn't been any errors or problems saving the file.The problem comes when I try to import the *.reg file. error "Can not import *. Not all data was sucessfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes"I would like to find out possible what I am doing wrong or not doing Thanks in advance
Jeremy Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 You can't just import all the Hives overtop of the existing ones, they are being used by Windows. You would have to boot to CD and copy the hives from whenever they are stored to C:\WINDOWS\repair or C:\WINDOWS\config, not sure which folder it is exactly. But you would only do this if your registry became corrupted somehow.
