omahan Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I am replacing the CD driver with a DVD burner on my Dell GX260. I have done this type replacement before on other machines. My problem this time is that the exterior of my computer is contoured with the CD driver deeply recessed - I am sure for cosmetic reasons. The new driver has a plane face. If I install it this way it will not fill the hole and will let too much dust in besides looking cobbled up. Can I take the covers off both and put the old cover on the new driver? If so do I just force it off? Will it harm the driver if I pull the tray open to do so? Any other indeas or suggestions??Thank you!
bonestonne Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 well, if you but in the DVD burner, just get some foam, and fill in the gaps. it will also absorb some vibrations from the machine and quiet the thing down.theres no need for an extreme, just foam.
jcarle Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Use a paperclip in the emergency release in the front, it will pop out the drive tray. Pull up on the very front of the drive tray to remove the bezel on the drive tray. There are 2 clips usually underneath, sometimes 4 (2 underneath, 2 on top) to release the full bezel on the actual drive. Remove the bezel, put back the drive tray bezel only and you should end up with the same thing as the OEM drive you're replacing.
ripken204 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 are you shure that you put the drive rails on at the right spots to the drive?
