RobHague Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 I was just playing around yesterday with some old Whistler BETA cd's and seeing if there was anything i could remove with Resource Hacker (image etc) and i had a thought. The 'Autorun' menu in 2000 is rather nice and simple. Surley it would look better than the 'big colourful' teletubby type button autorun menu? It may not be 'essential' or that important but ive run out of things to modify and fiddle with. :lolI have very limited tools available to me at the moment, 'Paint' is all i have on my system (i had abobe but the CD got damaged :/) at the moment so im sure people can do better...Here is the file so edit away and post back ur changes if you have a spare few mins. Ive not made any changes to make it work with ALL the extra features of the win2k3 CD but its just a matter of editing the target paths with reshacker. Setup.rar
Thanatos Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Thing is, I can't click on the buttons to install anything. I also tried it with XP but had the same result. Any ideas?
Corvette Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Just give me the images and I can do something to make it better
Thanatos Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 They're in the dll. It looks like a big improvement on the crappy default one, shame it doesn't work though . I made these ones...
DaveXP Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 You use reshacker to change the paths to the files need for setup.
RobHague Posted September 17, 2003 Author Posted September 17, 2003 They look very cool Thanatos Can you do some 'alternative' ones for win2k3? As terminator3 said the target paths can be edited with Resource Hacker i didnt change them as i was just playing around and just wanted to see what images people would make to make it worth while.
Thanatos Posted September 19, 2003 Posted September 19, 2003 How do I know which paths correspond to which buttons, there are no dialogs in the file when I open it with reshacker. Is there any way to find out. I'd like to add a few new tools to the install I'll have a go at some 2003 BMPs if I can get it working first
Corvette Posted September 21, 2003 Posted September 21, 2003 Doesen't Sever '03 have a grey verison of XP's setup?
Thanatos Posted September 21, 2003 Posted September 21, 2003 Yeah, but this is just the screen that appears if you have autoplay enabled, setup.exe in the root of the CD.
mott Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 any progress on this? I would really like to replace my setup.exe
Thanatos Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Well its sort of hard to test, because i'm not sure how the Text on the buttons relates to the files that the buttons execute
mott Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 I think it's in the string table if you look under 66 you see it trying to run things but the numbers don't match the buttons for some reason anyone know more about this?
mott Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Ok I've looked into it more it looks like we need to replace the string table to add menu items and tell setup.exe what to run, say for terminal client. But that's were I'm having problems, I can't figure out how to replace the string table, I can edit the text already there but when I try to import a new string table with a test menu item it does not take it, anyone good with resource hacker or resource tuner that could anwser this?
mott Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 *bump anyone know what I'm doing wrong? if we could replace the string table then I think we could get this to work.
