MSCONFIG ? Nlite 1.21

I have been using Nlite for some time now trying to make a good install. But it seems everytime I have removed something it has serious side effects. Now I'm back to not removing much and I realize that MSCONFIG is not working.

When i choose run/msconfig I get this enhanced msconfig:

But the startup is empty. And I know there are programs in startup that should be listed. Whats wrong ? Why doesn't msconfig work ?

Is it because I removed Help and Support ?

Hope someone can help me

I think removing Help and Support is the cause, but I am not sure. I do however know the fix.

On the components removal page, click the "advanced" button and add "msconfig.exe" in the "keep" box and msconfig will work once again.

If you have a saved settings ini file, you could also just add:

yup

autoruns is better, but i used nlite yesterday on my mums pc, and msconfig is working fine..

i removed this.. (dont have the last session)

Thanx for feedback. Just wanted to clarify a couple of things. It's not that msconfig.exe is'nt present. It just doesn't work. tried downloading msconfig.exe from the net and running it. Same result..

And Msconfig.exe is already in my advanced keep box.

bledd I see you too removed help and support. I really thought that was it.. :(

i'll look through now to see if i can see anything that stands out

i use RVM updatepack, and dx pack too, so its not them

-edit, i removed all you did and more

i didn't mess with my services tho..

try setting the ones you changed back to normal, and restarting pc..

I only removed:

Beep Driver

Error Reporting

System Restore Service

Perhaps I will try making a new nlite keeping those + default services status. I would just really like to know that is the cause before doing so :blink:

personally i never use msconfig anyway, and usually delete it from the pc, but i removed less than normal in this one because its my mum's pc and had to make it in a hurry!

autoruns is 10x better, it shows loads more entries

I agree. For me it's just a principle. Functionality has to be intact.

However I fixed it. Seem you were right on the money.

Made a new Nlite disk changing only the remaining services to DEFAULT. That fixed it.

Changing the state back to DEFAULT in the already installed windows didn't work.
